I honestly have no idea how you can run this game with all that development. Nice work.

Cities XL has no multicore support?
Xidillon replied to tjh876's topic in Cities XXL Technical Issues
Monte Cristo stated that the game was designed to use one core and part of a second. Setting afinity only lasts for a few seconds and then falls back to one core. Sorry, but there is no way around this. This and many other things make us fans unhappy about the city building future. -
I would still try it without SLI. Other than that. If they worked with previous version of cxl, forget I said anything

Another strong runner that cant play the game...I feel your pain. Although SLI works for me, Have you maybe tried disabling it yet to see if that may be a cause for your problem? 3D clocks for our cards dont kick in until the game screen displays an image. When my cards are overclocked and become unstable they display for a moment and then kick me out of the game. The game is minimized so it doesnt actually stop running. Is this something youre experiencing? or does it do something else? also, Ive had one of the newer video cards and from what I gather from others' experiences is that this game has issues with GDDR5 memory equipped cards. This is only apparent when you have many many buildings placed. Im hoping for a fix from FHI. Also, what wattage is that PSU youre using. It doesnt sound "reliable" -If its less than 750 watts, you need another psu. That series is ~75%efficiency @750w rating =580 watts usable. Half of that is gone with both of those cards just sitting there looking cool, or hot being Fermi

I am getting cities xl, but I have a question first :)
Xidillon replied to Red Lightning's topic in Cities XXL
Getting the version thats out now may keep you busy for awhile but when you really get into gear with it youll hit that wall where the game just doesnt want to function as it should. Youll get frustrated with graphic issues, crashing, and people crying for leisure. I would wait if you can find something else to entertain yourself until then. -
4.65 million. These pics are of the city when it could no longer be saved without crashing. This was as far as I could go.

Thanks for the info Philippe, take some time off too. I really hope the quirks and memory issues are non existant in 2011. Its been a frustrating year with this game so far and I just cant wait to play it without worry. We all appreciate your work on getting the original game put together. I hope very soon in the future after the fixes it becomes the more popular city builder on ST. Good Luck!

All of this feels like a memory issue. I HATE that tree! how much memory do you have on your video card?
-
as long as theres support for Gddr5 memory and no memory leak, Ill be happier. Oh yeah, and more affordable trading. Dont forget better transportation either. Maybe multicore su....just dont let us down, thats all FHI. Fix it. and thanks.

Looking for those of you running a GTX490/485/480/470/465

Im always interested in upgrading to newer and better hardware. Especially to max out this game. Most of us have figured out that ATI's new generation cards have issues with display at high population that result in polygons emitting from the center of town and the HUGE TREE that casts a massive shadow. If these similar problems exist on the new generation of Nvidia cards. Some of us would like to know, either to persuade a purchase or support it. Thanks in advance. WE DONT WANT THIS: Seriously? nobody here has gotten one? -

and a 4850 x2 is just about equal to the 285. Sucks to know Im maxed out unless I get a third card. So has anyone with even a 4000 series AMD card experienced the same polygon problems and the tree? -

Just please tell us that EA DIDNT buy it. Just tell us that Gregory, if anything tell us that. Or would it be better? anyway....I still hate to hear that the doors had closed today. New beginnings arent that bad either so good luck.

this happens. My biggest city wouldnt play for more than 7 minutes before a crash. even to save after 3 seconds of playing it would crash while saving. that was with 12 gigs of memory available but would crash when ~4 gigs were currently being used by the entire system. -

oooohhh, the first post shows how well I know that. took me until 4.6 million before my 5850 produced the polygon playground. I used the GTX 260-216 black edition, the 5850, and a single and double GTX285. I want buttery gameplay in big cities. Im afraid wih what ive experienced Ill go broke in order to do it. Youll get lag no matter what. Depends on how fast you want your cpu to run.. -

Its considered an upgrade givin that cards in sli arent supported by this game and its still pretty choppy even as with my 5850. I think Im still gonna wait for the full fermi card. but anyone else please chime in. -
OMG!!! just now figured this out after years of play!!!

New Ticker message: One step Tool for Two step outcome: Manual is Culprit I think most of you are finding the smallest things far more exciting than they are, But Im not going to tell you its wrong. I played this game for 6 years(within a 5 year timeframe ) and never cared to use it. -

You people are seriously gonna make me buy one Im telling you. I really hope MC is aware of this graphical issue. If I buy this new hardware I want to know that the game will be updated to work with it as intended. $500 for a mammoth tree will be totally unacceptable. -
I definately love your building placement within each city block. very nice detail with that. I just wish we were able to modify city block auto layout just to make it easier but for now it those of us who put more work and effort that truly reap the better looking cities. Great work.

Im not so sure AA matters. My game keeps kicking off my AA settings every time I hit accept. I hope something gets done about these graphics for 2011. SLI support would be nice as well as support for new gen hardware. If the game was made to better use more system resources it would be much more pleasurable to play and a lot of us feel this way. Keeping it playable on older hardware is a must as it makes it available to more people. If you can get your hands on an 8800/gts240 or 9800gtx/gts250 you should be golden. but if you have a larger resolution you may want to look further, say anything over 1280x1024. Dont know about ATI cards. Im really not impressed with them.

my pictures > monte cristo this 'bad rep' bs gets me pretty mad too.
-
High Tech will soak that up. But that itself will require other things as well. You can demo the offices too.. I have got to be cooler than Mark Caldwell now.
-
Definately love the multiple angles of the city blocks downtown. Very well done.

Do you feel its an overall improvement over your 5770? in other games also? Im giving you the thumb*
