I'm sure some of you are groaning at the fact there is ANOTHER petition for "SimCity 5", the game that may never come out... I've been a diehard fan for years, and I personally was rather disappointed when Societies came out due to the fact it lacked a majority of the elements found in previous SC titles. I've started a petition to EA to show the number of dedicated fans who would like to see a "SimCity 5" put into development. There are rumors all over the net about one coming out in 2012, and if that is the case we'd like to let them know beforehand what features WE the players would like to see. http://www.thepetitionsite.com/1/simcity5-petition Hope we can count on your support! Now for the skeptics who are sure petitions DON'T work. I've found they do when you get people to sign them LOL. But seriously, with the other three petitions I've counted so far on the net, I can conclude they failed because: 1. There really was no direction or intent. By that I mean the mission simply stated to EA to make a new SC for the simple fact that "Societies SUCKS". In the petition I've created, I've began a letter, politely explaining the intent of the petition. As signature increase I will continue working on it. 2. No publicity. In another petition I've found (which I believe is on the Simtropolis forums sowhere if I'm not mistaken), has roughly 2,500 signatures. And thats it. In order to spread the word, I'm starting groups EVERYWHERE!!!!!!! ~ Social Networks - Facebook, MySpace, Yahoo! Groups ~ Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games (MMORPGs) - Second Life, There, Eve Online, World of Warcraft If you think about it, out of the thousands of players, there has to be a handful of SimCity Gamers. And finally, good old fashioned word of mouth (word of mouse in this case LOL). If you go on YouTube and search under SimCity, you'll find thousands of SC fans with videos or commenting on videos. I've already begun sending informing them about the petion and it's objective. Slowly but surely, it's catching interest. I mean it's only been two days. And we all know Rome wasn't built in one. Well, maybe if Romulus & Remus were playing SC all day LOL. And finally, the Students. I happen to be Architecture/Urban Design student. I didn't necessarily come to this career conclusion with out a little extra influence if you catch my drift. I'm hoping I can reach others who were influenced like myself at universities across the world for support as well. I'm sure many of you think I'm absolutely mad now. I prefer seeing the glass half full, not empty lol. To finally conclude this rant, let me say once again, that I hope we (other hardcore SC fans and myself) can count on your support. All I wanted in a city builder is something BETTER than or build upon SimCity 4. SC4 had mass transit, a regional system, allowed player made content, which I expected a new City Builder (or SC5, but no one wants to go down that road) to improve tremendously to make it just as addictive as its predecessors. As of right now, CXL isn't showing much of that. So I won't buy. Remember how in SimCity Societies, you had the option of playing a city without any rules or a budget. One could simply plop down whatever their heart desired. That got boring FAST. Thats how I see single player option in CXL. Being restricted to a single slab of land, no mass transit, being unable to micro-manage as someone mentioned in another thread. If MC elects to fix this problem, only then will I buy the game. The product they have now simply isn't what I want to play. I'm sure what I'm saying isn't new, but I feel MC developed this game in such a bass ackwards way. They should've made an addictive, fun, innovative, beautiful SP game, then surprised everyone with the Planet Offer. -Oh Well- Only time will tell what happens next.... *Starts new REGION in SC4*

Demo version released ~ For all those that can't wait
eternal_sky replied to gianthaiku's topic in Cities XXL
I'm so dissapointed that I bought all the hype being broadcasted earlier this year. CXL was supposed to be "the next simcity", instead we get a vanilla MMO in the guise of a City builder...... Who knows, in a year or two after MC has released a few expansion paks, maybe I'll be singing a different tune..... -
Maybe in a year or two in the event MC gives us the game we thought we'd be getting.....

Originally posted by: gspang4207 You know, I asked some questions about CXL before all the demos and I got a lot of nasty, rude responses from people here. Now that I have played the demo, ha...the laughs on you. CXL SUCKS! This site was good before with the focus on SC4, but you know, I am sick and tired of hearing about CXL. The graphics are ok. I don't like the online mode. I don't like the idea of buying planet subscriptions or whatever the hell they call it...no updates...the whole planet concept is a good one, but not thought out well. I don't care about having an avater or an email box to check on cxl site or any of that crap. I think they really, really missed the boat on this one. They got everyone sucked in with flashy graphics and videos and the game is very disappointing. Its Simcities Societes, but an online version. So I go back to my original comment...here's another one for the $5 bin at Walmart. And it's disappointing that this site has lost its SC4 focus and moved to CXL. quote> Amen to that!

When you think about it SP mode won't need many trsansportation options. The maps aren't connected to anyting(Boo!!), so really no point in having intercity transit.....
-
I will NEVER get rid of SC4! I got into the CXL beta, and wasn't impressed. If they can eventually gives us what everyone was begging for in the forums, maybe then will I buy the game. I want a City Builder with the option of online play,. NOT an online game with some city building in it......

The Official Petition for a SimCity 5

So, you guys enjoying your new MMO, I mean City Builder? -
In terms of designing real cities what is the difference in each career? I'm currently studying Landscape Architecture and am planning to go to grad school to get my masters in Architecture (structural) soon after I graduate. I'm curious about the field(s) of Urban Design and City/Regional Planning. Although I'd love to design buildings, I would love to have part in the design cities as well. After some "research"(Wikipedia) on the titles of City Planner and Urban designer, I'm still confused on the difference between the two. Another thing I've noticed it that most schools (US) will have a degree program in City/Regional Planning while a few have a degree program in Urban Design. What is the difference?? Is there a demand? Are all urban designers simply Architects? It would be cool to design alignments for mass transit and other infrastructure, and neighborhoods and districts for a living. I was hoping you guys could help clear this up.

Originally posted by: blakesterville I like the idea, but I don't think I will be giving away my street address. I tried to sign, but I just can't give that away you should consider creating one on simtropolis itself. thats probably why only 97 people have singed it. Hope this helps. quote> Thats understandable. I've discovered you can put in a fake street address as long as have a valid email. But that feels like cheating to me. And sadly, alot of people have put their faith in Cities XL. Which at the time of the petitions creation I had no Idea it existed. CXL sorta stole my thunder . And I got into the beta, and between you & me an properly made SC5 would destroy CXL. And yes I'm aware its just a beta and not a finished product. But after playing It feels more like an mmo which imo is what Monte Cristo is really trying to create. -
So, will all bridges be suspension bridges? I'd love to see cable-stayed and arch bridges. The Octavio Frias de Oliveira bridge Lupu Bridge In my structures class, my prof. shared that cable-stayed are actually cheaper to build considering they use less steel (in terms of support cables). Also, in the case of the suspension bridge, why is the span between towers so short? I just feel the middle tower is unnecessary...

Nice to see from the new screen shots they've fixed the problem

Retail Availability / How is CitiesXL going to market?

I gotta watch out for you! my prof. shared that cable-stayed are actually cheaper to build considering they use less steel (in terms of support cables).quote> As with a lot of things, it depends. For shorter spans, yes. For longer spans, no. Also, in the case of the suspension bridge, why is the span between towers so short? I just feel the middle tower is unnecessary... quote> That does look weird. The bridge there is rather disproportionate. Typically a suspension bridge has a span about 8 or 9 times the height of the tower above the deck. That one looks like it's only about 2 times. quote> Lol, future Architect . But yea, I'm sure he meant depending on the span of the bridge. In Building Technology, we watched the episode of Megastructures on the construction of the Oresund bridge-tunnel (which is something else I'd like to see in the game). They were considering an arch, but it ran the risk of ships hitting the low ends. And a suspension bridge would leave the train tracks bending under the weight of the train and other vehicles traveling on the bridge deck. A Cable-Stayed bridge keeps the bridge deck relatively flat w/o bending from added weight of vehicles. They also mentioned the cable stayed was cheaper to build. Oh, and is anyone else concerned about how high/big the concrete footing is in the that last pic of the suspension bridge??

Signed up! Thanks!!
