All I wanted in a city builder is something BETTER than or build upon SimCity 4. SC4 had mass transit, a regional system, allowed player made content, which I expected a new City Builder (or SC5, but no one wants to go down that road) to improve tremendously to make it just as addictive as its predecessors. As of right now, CXL isn't showing much of that. So I won't buy. Remember how in SimCity Societies, you had the option of playing a city without any rules or a budget. One could simply plop down whatever their heart desired. That got boring FAST. Thats how I see single player option in CXL. Being restricted to a single slab of land, no mass transit, being unable to micro-manage as someone mentioned in another thread. If MC elects to fix this problem, only then will I buy the game. The product they have now simply isn't what I want to play. I'm sure what I'm saying isn't new, but I feel MC developed this game in such a bass ackwards way. They should've made an addictive, fun, innovative, beautiful SP game, then surprised everyone with the Planet Offer. -Oh Well- Only time will tell what happens next.... *Starts new REGION in SC4*

Demo version released ~ For all those that can't wait
eternal_sky replied to gianthaiku's topic in Cities XXL
I'm so dissapointed that I bought all the hype being broadcasted earlier this year. CXL was supposed to be "the next simcity", instead we get a vanilla MMO in the guise of a City builder...... Who knows, in a year or two after MC has released a few expansion paks, maybe I'll be singing a different tune..... -
Maybe in a year or two in the event MC gives us the game we thought we'd be getting.....

Originally posted by: gspang4207 You know, I asked some questions about CXL before all the demos and I got a lot of nasty, rude responses from people here. Now that I have played the demo, ha...the laughs on you. CXL SUCKS! This site was good before with the focus on SC4, but you know, I am sick and tired of hearing about CXL. The graphics are ok. I don't like the online mode. I don't like the idea of buying planet subscriptions or whatever the hell they call it...no updates...the whole planet concept is a good one, but not thought out well. I don't care about having an avater or an email box to check on cxl site or any of that crap. I think they really, really missed the boat on this one. They got everyone sucked in with flashy graphics and videos and the game is very disappointing. Its Simcities Societes, but an online version. So I go back to my original comment...here's another one for the $5 bin at Walmart. And it's disappointing that this site has lost its SC4 focus and moved to CXL. quote> Amen to that!

When you think about it SP mode won't need many trsansportation options. The maps aren't connected to anyting(Boo!!), so really no point in having intercity transit.....
-
I will NEVER get rid of SC4! I got into the CXL beta, and wasn't impressed. If they can eventually gives us what everyone was begging for in the forums, maybe then will I buy the game. I want a City Builder with the option of online play,. NOT an online game with some city building in it......

The Official Petition for a SimCity 5

So, you guys enjoying your new MMO, I mean City Builder? -
In terms of designing real cities what is the difference in each career? I'm currently studying Landscape Architecture and am planning to go to grad school to get my masters in Architecture (structural) soon after I graduate. I'm curious about the field(s) of Urban Design and City/Regional Planning. Although I'd love to design buildings, I would love to have part in the design cities as well. After some "research"(Wikipedia) on the titles of City Planner and Urban designer, I'm still confused on the difference between the two. Another thing I've noticed it that most schools (US) will have a degree program in City/Regional Planning while a few have a degree program in Urban Design. What is the difference?? Is there a demand? Are all urban designers simply Architects? It would be cool to design alignments for mass transit and other infrastructure, and neighborhoods and districts for a living. I was hoping you guys could help clear this up.

But I'm sure you'd like to see some improvements in the graphics dept, and unfortunately mods can only do so much. -

Originally posted by: blakesterville I like the idea, but I don't think I will be giving away my street address. I tried to sign, but I just can't give that away you should consider creating one on simtropolis itself. thats probably why only 97 people have singed it. Hope this helps. quote> Thats understandable. I've discovered you can put in a fake street address as long as have a valid email. But that feels like cheating to me. And sadly, alot of people have put their faith in Cities XL. Which at the time of the petitions creation I had no Idea it existed. CXL sorta stole my thunder . And I got into the beta, and between you & me an properly made SC5 would destroy CXL. And yes I'm aware its just a beta and not a finished product. But after playing It feels more like an mmo which imo is what Monte Cristo is really trying to create. -
Nice to see from the new screen shots they've fixed the problem
