  1. I know erwinnegentig (I think I spelled that correctly) on Youtube has done a number of contests like this, and the video with the highest overall rating wins bragging rights. I did one competition, I think I decided to make a rural map. I'm sure eventually Simtropolis will jump on the bandwagon and do it in the City Concepts section or something.
  2. Bill Nye, The Science Guy Boo'd in Waco

Originally posted by: manticorefan Is this a joke? I mean, Bill Nye is kind of a doofus, but are they really that dumb? I find it hard to believe. I would have to think that this is some sort of sarcasm or prank story. Don't start associating those people with 'fundamentalists' (I know it's such a dirty word to some of you) because they aren't educated enough about science or religion to fit into any fundamentalist group I've ever known. quote> Sorry to pick on you, Manticorefan, but I've heard Bill Nye (as well as Steve Carrell) are incredibly smart people and must take up these comedic jobs for the self amusement or the money. Probably the money. But on a related topic to the forum, I have to ask, why was Bill in Waco, anyway? It's such a dominant religious town in the region, I'm suprised he got through the front gates. I understand he was only doing his job, but he couldn't do it somewhere that people don't care as much about religion?
  3. Changing Terrain level

I seem to remember once I was raising the terrain using that god mode 'raise terrain' button while holding down SHIFT and the 3 button. I can't remember what the results were, but maybe you can test it with the Control and Shift buttons, as well as with number keys.
  4. Guess that City - American Version

I take that back, Gettysburg has a roundabout in the center of the city. Maybe it's Akron, Ohio?
  5. Guess that City - American Version

I think I know it! Gettysburg! Been there every summer... And it's in the Rust Belt.
  6. NAM: Requests

RHW interchanges can be made with the- what are they called? MRI-MIR, it starts with an M anyway, those ramps. You can make a cloverleaf style interchange, a partial Y, really, they're the interchange-makers for the RHW. If I could only remember what they're called- MENTAL BLOCK!
  7. Suburbia RIP?

I don't really live in an urban area or much of a suburban area either but my opinion in pro-sprawl. I think it really shows ingenuity of people who want to densely populate people in a very small space. Look at Tokyo, the sprawl has forced builders to make the most technically advanced buildings they can, the one I especially like was built on a street corner and is a triangle about 5x40 feet. The sprawl will always force engineers to outdo themselves, so I say YES TO SPRAWL!
  8. NAM

Don't get too many mods! Eventually I discovered too many will take up as much as 6% of your hard drive space on a small-ish computer. It doesn't sound like much, but it makes your computer run really slow. Also, you get so many icons on the ingame menu that it takes a while to scroll down the list, and even then you may pass what you were looking for. The NAM doesn't majorly cause any of these problems, but keep track of your plugins!
  9. Earliest SimCity Series Memory...

I remember when my Simcity games were on floppy disks! Simcity has ALWAYS and will ALWAYS be a great franchise... excluding Societies.
  10. rci demand

Can I recommend the plopomatic 9000? I found it on the STEX, and as far as I have experienced, it works just like the super demand ordinance, only as a plopable lot. I think because it's plopable, it's almost foolproof. If you can't find the cause of your super demand problem, this is a great plan B.
  11. Atlanta, A Nation Of Dreams

Very rural, yet busy and thriving! It's the right kind of city I would live in, especially with the abundant parks and all. Best of wishes to your entire region!
  12. Huge Problems with seawalls...

If you've set your expectations really low by this point, you could make a sea wall or entire sea bed out of pedestrian mall tiles from the NAM. Not the best idea, I know, but it's not a command.
  13. Too little, too late?

The Sketchup models you make and render in Gmax tend to look like crap, I'm sorry to inform you. Exporting it as a 3ds divides your model into triangles and then textures it with what you've given it. Sometimes (quite often, actually) an error occurs and you get blackish triangles on your model. Making a model out of only triangles won't solve the problem either. Some textures will be transparent, seeming to have disappeared. I'm sorry to tell you this, but Sketchup won't work. Just spend some quality time with gmax tutorials and learn by doing.
  14. Favorite Disasters

I would have answered riots, but I guess you people don't count it as a disaster. Also, I agree with futurama2506sim, nukes should be a disaster available. But at least you can set fire to your nuclear plants and blow junk up. Simcity will never cease to amuse me...
  15. New Official BAT Request Thread

YES!! We are sooo on the same mind track! I was just going to make a model of the Dunder Mifflin building for myself, but if other people want it, hey, the more the merrier! And the links'll help too. (Is links'll in any way a real word?)
  16. Custon Content

That's a pretty general thing to say... People make lots with the lot editor (le), found on the Simcity website. Buildings are made with the Building Architect Tool (BAT), also found on the Simcity website. As for maps, I'm not too apt at making those, so I couldn't help you. But what are you most interested in? Lots, buildings or maps? I specialize in buildings, they're not as hard to make as people tell you. Tutorials can be found in the forums.
  17. Demand Issues

I'm sure you thought of it already, but do you have any plugins? If not, it could be a problem file in The MyComputer/Program Files/SimcityFour files?
  18. neon freighters

The maker probably made it and didn't upload it in RGB Full, and used another upload color format. I say, never touch the RGB menu!
  19. Font

I don't know exactly what you mean, as in the menu fonts, logo font, etc, but I do know a good website where you can upload a picture and it picks the font out. Just search "What the Font" on Google and it's the first result. It's a well made website if you want to know what the font is, but afterwards, I think you have to buy the font from them or something. But it helped me.
  20. City Hall bug?

Whenever you modify (or create) a lot, a new icon will ALWAYS appear. I gather that you took out the fence props and hit 'Save"? Well, even hitting the Save button, let alone the Save As button will make a new icon. I think I'm overcomplicating it. New file in your plugin folder=new icon.
  21. Piracy off East Africa

I may be interrupting other people's related conversations, but I just heard the Maersk Alabama is in Kenya right now, and the pirates are still in the life raft. The military has the whole area surrounded but there're two problems. The pirates are well armed (Two AK47s, one each) and the raft is covered. The forces are trying to work out a negotiation with the pirates. I hate to be the bearer of any news in general, but I'm praying for him.
  22. Show us your airport!

I have to say, I couldn't design anything better than anyone else... as for BAT... nah, off topic. I very much like the idea of putting airports right next to the coastline. Though it does use waterfront property, it's very realistic. Also, if I did design my own airports, I would probably transit enable them ( airport trams ) and make it all 747s. After all, Southwest uses only 747s and they've survived this economic downturn very well. As usual, I'm rambling on, but great job on everyone's part!
  23. Piracy off East Africa

The Fox News network (which I watch) said the captain had been through these waters off the Somalian coast many times. They quoted the captain saying 'I knew I was in dangerous waters, and it may only be a matter of time.' If he travels in the area much, he probably practiced a hijacking routine at least once. How the crew took a pirate captive I will never know(unless they say on the morning news), they may have had weapons, they may not. Well, the guy's from Massachusetts, and we're always the protagonist! Also, thanks to Bahrain for helping us out!
  24. I'm not getting why the Air Force has(had) a reason to shoot down the plane. Chances are they had no idea who stole the plane until it landed. Sure, it would've stopped the pursuit and any threat as long as it wasn't in an urban area, but if the pilot became a casualty, a lot of legal problems would arise. Obviously, if the guy took off he knows something about flying, but that also means he should know something about landing too. I say just let him run out of gas. He stole the plane, what's the worst that could happen? Its not like he's a terrorist, not if it's a plane from Thunder Bay (did I just offend anyone from Thunder Bay? It is a great city).
  25. Something is wrong with W2W buildings in Cities XL

All the buildings seem to be in square, so theres very little space between buildings. But as you probably know, one of the great features of Cities XL is the ability to make curved roads. What then?
