  1. I'm quite fond of London Waterloo Station and Paris's Gare du Nord, due to lovely architecture and deep history.
  2. Well, I've recently purchased a new laptop after my old, Vista-equipped laptop caught fire (long story), and, naturally, the first thing I do is install SimCity4. So I'm sitting there, I've just put the next disk in, and it seems to stop on 'Current File: SimCity_1.dat." So I click on it, and it goes "Not Responding." I can't get rid of it unless I hold down the power button and shut down. Can't even end the process. BTW, I'm using Windows 7 64-bit. Has anyone else experienced this?
  3. I've been following this since the beginning... it's coming along beautifully. Josh, yours is excellent (if a bit large), and I'm looking forward to seeing Poke's.
  4. What is your favouite airport?

My personal favourite is KSFO, San Francisco International Airport, because of the beautiful views upon takeoff and landing, efficiency of transport, modernity, cleanliness, and general friendliness. The only downside is actually getting into the airport, the 101 is always packed and the maze of roads out front is confusing to many people. EDIT: My first runner up is London Heathrow, mainly because of modernity, friendliness, ease of security, and ease of access to central London (my hometown).
  5. Worst City Planning

I'm going to have to vote for San Jose, CA... it's basically solid suburbs from the 280 down to Gilroy, with only three major highways running through (the 280, plus the 880 and 101 are quite narrow). It's terribly griddy and traffic is horrific from Downtown to Saratoga pretty much most of the day.
  6. Windows 7 Install Error

Well, I've taken a closer look at Disc 2 and realised that it's got a large and nasty-looking scratch from the centre to the outside. I've cleaned it as Nonny suggested, tried it and failed, then I used a special disc repair tool I purchased years ago, tried it, failed, and now I've just borrowed a friend's disc to install. So everything is fine, and I appreciate the help.
  7. Windows 7 Install Error

Let's see. I'm installing Deluxe, my disks are from ~2006, the surfaces are scratch-free, and there were no disks in my poor old burned laptop.
  8. I've got it back here in San Francisco, Comcast finally got on the ball.
  9. San Francisco, CA, USA I'm getting the squatter.
  10. STEX - General Slowness

I wasn't sure exactly where to put this, so it goes here. Over the past couple months, Simtrop has been getting steadily slower until it ground to a slow, painful halt today. The main reason I finally decided to say something here is because the BAT-Open Discussion thread took a little over eight minutes to load. I am now trying to download something from the STEX and it's going at exactly 67 bits per second. Is it something wrong with my computer personally or is it a widespread problem?
  11. I've finally sat down and made a BAT thread. I believe the name is more than adequate. Anyway, I taught myself to BAT a couple years ago (quite badly, though) and just a couple days ago, I decided to try again. I made a couple ugly, ugly highway signs for my main city but they... worked and I managed to actually make them look vaguely nice ingame. I might even try to make a building one of these days. I'll put up pictures of my various projects soon, but till then, a question: 1. How can I make a cylinder go horizontally in gmax?
  12. Right, I'll take pics of the preview render next time. Thanks for the textures heads-up.
  13. I had actually just sat down to post these when I saw your post... BATtempt 1: A sign made up of two boxes and two cylinders. At least I figured out how to texture it. BATtempt 2: Another sign, this time overhead, made up of five cylinders and four boxes. This one took me a while. BATtempt 3: I'm working on a small, basic, house in the Euro tileset. Haven't got the scaling quite right, I've been testing it ingame and in LotEditor, but it's almost the right size. Is there a way I can get the textures off the Maxis roofs and walls?
  14. I'll put up pics of my latest attempt later today, but for now, a question not-so-related to BAT: Is there anywhere other than the STEX where I can download the NDEX skyscrapers? It's almost impossible to download from here.
  15. ...oh. Probably could have thought that out.
  16. This is absolutely brilliant work, SC4IE. It simplifies it nicely and makes it easy to get acclimated to 3dsMax, which has a rather steep learning curve. This should be put in the Omnibus, or at least stickied here.
  17. STEX - General Slowness

I'll have to try from different browsers. Also, (and other people have told me this), my only file that I uploaded to the STEX is showing a 404 when anyone tries to download it.
  18. Desktop.. Everyone has one of these!

Thanks for playing, try again next time in the game of WHICH OPERATING SYSTEM?

Ten points to the first person who can guess the operating system.
  20. Media Player Thead

I just use iTunes. It's clean, easy, and works with my iPod. Windows Media Player just bothers me for some reason.
  21. Your Regions and their Population

My largest (and current) is Chase County, been working on it for over two years, it works out to about 60 large tiles by 20. Population is a little over 1 and a half million, mostly small towns, suburbs and one large city. It would have been larger, but I tend to take a ridiculously long time building even small towns, due to kind-of-OCD and the want (nay, need!) to make it perfectly realistic.
  22. What Is your Playing Style?

Well, I try usually to start with a small city or settlement and take the organic approach. Build out slowly, add things as needed, try to make the city as realistic (yet as awesome) as I can. When you just start from the beginning with plans for a gigantic city, it takes some of the fun and all of the realism out of it.
  23. Official Simtropolis Weather Channel

From the lovely and fragrant city of Stockton, CA (where I happen to be trapped in a vacation mishap), it's bloody buggering hot here. I grew up in London (but live in the Bay Area now). I'm not used to this heat. Even now, at ~11:30 local time, it's hovering above 80 F. AAGH.

  25. Even though I've been an active member of the SC4 community for over two years, I'm stil having trouble wrapping my head around some of the plugins. About a year and a half ago, I reinstalled my game and redownloaded all of my plugins. Yesterday, my computer exploded (figuratively) and I lost it all. I reinstalled SC4 and am in the process of getting back all my downloads. The point of this post is that I cannot remember which airport packs/sets/things to download and where they are. I also think some new stuff has come out in the last year and a half. Anyway, I would much appreciate it if you could link me to some of the better packs (on Simtrop or the LEX) so I can finish my redownloading. Cheers paroxysm
