  1. Resources disappearing

I have the opposite problem, but it usually occurs when I delete a city. If the city is deleted and a new one is started, it will continue to trade resources that were present in the previous city. While this can be exploited to generate massive wealth for a new city, it is unrealistic and in my eyes, a cheat. This problem should be addressed along with the dozens of other bugs that are present in this game.
  2. Cities XL Evaluation

I bought this game off of Steam when it was discounted over Christmas and it looked cool to start, but ultimately became stale and frustrating. I didn't even bother with the PO, even with the free trial because I wanted to learn the game at my own pace, with pausing and speeding up as necessary. Based on my experience in single player as well as reviews from people on this site and others, I won't even bother with PO until the game is actually complete or even worthwhile. I'm still in college and have bills to pay, and with the economy as it is right now, it is just not economically wise to throw away $10 a month on an unfinished product. Unfortunately, single player has also been less than pleasurable for me as well. I'm still struggling with the resource management and trade token concept, and this is compounded by the fact that single player trade, as mentioned in several posts, is very unfair and unbalanced. I can't trade with other cities I may create, so that rules out specialization, which means I have to use the outrageous trade system and severely retard city growth or make the each city I create self-sufficient, which is somewhat realistic and tedious. I had high hopes for this game when I heard about it, and sincerely hope that it will do nothing but improve as we progress, but there is little to no communication between MC and the city building community, either on their website or here on the forums, which leaves me in doubt about the future of this game.
  3. Busses on solo mode?

It's not the first and only time that promises were made and then broken by MC. Don't forget all the complaints from people about having the forums on citiesxl.com purged completely or all the items released in the beta that were not released or changed for the final release. Let's also consider this statement from the same blog regarding the quality of solo play versus online: Consider, that in the past, Monte Cristo has, on numerous occassions, assured us that their intention is to build a great single-player city-building experience first, and that the online subscriber aspect would be an additional optional experience. Seems to me that MC's focus has been almost completely focused on the online aspect of the game rather than the single player, which is still woefully bugged and handicapped.

They need to be taught some common sense. quote> Here's a link if you want to look. http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/23/peta-joins-protest-against-world-at-wars-attack-dogs/
  5. Dog Breeder Vilified

I bought my Weimaraner from a breeder. I suppose I'm guilty of multipe crimes. First, by buying from a breeder, I've killed a dog in a shelter. Second, I'm sure the next complaint will be that I didn't buy an American dog. If you think PETA is being lame here, you should check out what they had to say about Call of Duty: World at War. A very similar argument they posed when Medal of Honor came out. These people are just radical nut jobs. I'm thankful for the First Amendment, but there are just times when I wish you needed a liscense or something to practice it.
  6. 2016 Olympic Bids

All true, but where would they put the stadium? Not sure how many people would enjoy being uprooted merely for a huge metal mess that will be forgotten after the games are over (i.e. Athens). TBH, I'd rather see the games in Tokyo. The Japanese are masters at using limited space and are world renowned for their grandiose construction projects (i.e. Pearl Bridge in Kobe). Not to mention they haven't hosted the Summer Olympics since 1964, which was almost half a century ago while the US had them in 1996.
  7. Japan Prepares to Destroy North Korean Launch

These are all very interesting comments, many with excellent points. The DPRK is definitely a force to be reckoned with, even today. Sure, some of their equipment is outdated, but that doesn't make them any less dangerous. Just having a leader like Kim Jong Ill in power is enough to make the world worry, especially Japan, who has no standing army of its own and has been greatly opposed to war since the end of World War II. If someone that crazy is wielding the military power of a country, who know what could happen? Has anyone looked to see what the DPRK paper is saying? Of course, everything is filtered, but generally what we read is probably what the people of the country read. I found an interesting excerpt from April 1, and let me tell you, just reading it once was enough for me to consider it a bad April Fool's joke. In the article, the DPRK says they are the "victim" and that the US and it's allies in South Korea are planning to destroy them, not to mention are starting a second arms race that will destroy the whole world. Here's an excerpt: -When the situation reached such a pass, the U.S. has become more vociferous about the DPRK's non-existent "missile threat" and taken an option to step up its moves to establish MD [Missle Defense], justifying those moves and the escalation of its arms race. As a matter of fact it is the DPRK that is exposed to constant missile threat. The U.S. is posing a missile threat to the DPRK and the latter is its victim- Comments? Questions?
  8. tutorial for building multiple cities at a time

If it is that one, then I have the link right here for you. https://www.simtropolis.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=146&threadid=78505&enterthread=y Another link that I found particularly helpful was this one. https://www.simtropolis.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=147&threadid=75836&highlight_key=y&keyword1=thy451#757049 Both of these I think can be found on the Omnibus section of Simtropolis. You'll find tons of really helpful and useful articles.
  9. Tokyo

Wow, that sounds like a lot of work. I'm impressed you can take on such an endeavor. Thanks for explaining it in detail for me, and I'm sure it was pretty informative for a bunch of other people as well. Great work.
  10. Tokyo

This is amazing. Even better than the other two journals you've done on this city. How are you recreating the terrain? I've found some nice maps of the region, but they're all made so that everything has to be built on a diagonal. I'd love to try doing this myself, I just need a map where I can build properly.
  11. Tokyo Map

I've seen a couple good Tokyo maps here on the STEX, but there are way to many diagonals to be able to comfortably render one in SimCity 4. Is there a better, rotated greyscale that I can use to creat a region or is there a way I can rotate the existing greyscale map about 45 degrees to eliminate the effects that diagonals cause?
  12. NHP - New Horizons Productions Map Thread

I have the Tokyo map, but is there a way I can rotate the picture? I'm having a lot of trouble because of all the diagonals. If the map could be rotated about 45 degrees, I think it would be much easier to recreate.
  13. High Speed Rail Project

I can't use the HSR. It keeps crashing my system. Anyone have a suggestion? I'm running a 3.0 Dual Core Processor, dual NVIDIA 8800GTs in SLI mode, 2 GB of RAM and Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit.
  14. Tokyo, and Beyond...

It's been a long time since this thread has been updated. Can we get something new?
  15. Tokyo

Yay, another attempt at Tokyo! All I can say is good luck. This is an extremely daunting task.
  16. Tokyo, and Beyond...

Does anyone know where I can get the Diet building? I've been looking but all the links I've found are dead.
  17. That's far from ugly, my friend. Dubbed "The Worst Building in the History of Mankind," the Ryugyong Hotel in North Korea is a prime example of Ugly. Yours, not so much.
  18. Virgin Shores

Thanks for the reply. I forgot to partition off the necessary space, by which I mean using ctrl+left click to get the desired size. Man I feel stupid :/. Great work on your city jourrnal, btw. I've been following a lot of journals and yours is certainly one of the best.
  19. Virgin Shores

I downloaded the files and put them in my plugin folder, but I can't seem to get them to grow. Are they growable or do they have to be plopped? I have all the updates needed as well. Whoops, this in reference to the Japanese homes and files from SOMY.
  20. Tokyo, and Beyond...

Looking better every time I come back to check. Keep up the good work. Also, what kinds of BATs and custom files are you using? I'd love to be able to try this myself.
  21. Tokyo, and Beyond...

First post for me on this site. I've seen a couple attempts at Tokyo and the area surrounding the metropolis (sp?), and they've been abandoned because of a lack of realism. Admittedly though, Tokyo has one of the toughest transportation networks in the world to try and do (i.e. Rainbow Bridge). The region shot looks good though. Nice and full. Can't wait to see some closeups and learn some more stuff. Good Luck
  22. Mapp Squad Tokyo

Wow, this is an amazing and huge map! I've really got my work cut out for me on this one. Excellent job. To those who are having trouble with the resolution, just make sure the .cfg file is name config instead of config1. That'll mess a lot up. Also, I've done rendering in both the game and using the terraformer and I think the terraformer is much faster. I could be wrong though since I haven't messed around with everything this site and game has to offer.
