  1. New York City

Ok, so it has been like waaaaaaaaaaaay too long since I updated this CJ, so long in fact that it should be criminal. The good thing though however, is that I have come across some spare time for the next few weeks, namely holidays and seeing how winter's starting to set in here, I thought it would be a great idea to make a few updates. So expect a few decent additions in the next few weeks.
  2. New Official BAT Request Thread

I think the one that is on the STEX is just a model rather than being a BAT and size wise I think it would be comparable to that of rubik's World Trade Centre complex so it would be a large BAT for sure. So if anyone out there is up for the challenge and wants to be showered in praise, United Nations Building is where it's at.
  3. New Official BAT Request Thread

Anyone know where I can find a United Nations Building in NYC city BAT and if there isn't one already, what a fantastic idea for a new BAT!
  4. New York City

Hey everyone, I'm just stopping by to let you all know I'm far from giving up on this project and the reason for the lack of an update has been that awful thing called work that gets in the way of precious Simcity time! Anyway nottheboss, penguin007 and everyone else, expect an update of some sort this weekend as I have come across some spare time and also more excellent BAT's that are begging to be implemented into the city. =] ilikehotdogsalot Thanks for stopping by and offering your encouragement and I must admit having just seen Hanson's recreation it has inspired me to work harder in order to keep up! As far as the taxi generator, I'm way ahead of ya that was one of the first things I got when I started the city. So keep an eye out everyone this weekend as an update is finally on it's way!
  5. New York City

Hey Everyone, Just stopped by again to answer a few replies. 2nerdy4u Thanks, good to see I've got a fair representation =] nottheboss Thanks. jacqulina Thank you, it does take a bit of planning and a lot of searching for BAT's to get it right. cleaner475 Thanks for stopping by and believe me once the city is finished there will be a good amount of parks and greenery. squall816 Thanks for the comment and with regards to my planning, I use Google Earth, several maps I picked up when I was in New York and a fantastic book I bought called New York from the Air. gabry85 Thanks, I'll be working on the Times Square area later on next week so expect an update on that soon =]. With regards to the od it does unfortunately replace the default median strip but only once it is laid over the original. penguin007 Thanks for the comment =] bbfan02 Thanks for the words and keep on coming =] Well folks, i'll be back later on next week hopefully with an update so until then syonara
  6. New York City

Hey Everyone, Update time again showing off the development of Midtown this time but first of all as always answering everyone's replies =] Bombshoo Welcome and I totally agree with you the Met would be a great addition to SC4. nottheboss Thanks for stopping by and welcome! topcliff Yeah the whole map is scaled down so in turn the whole city is also. I must admit I envy you right now, getting to go to NYC even if it is for just one day, have fun! Mike the Mayor Thanks once again for stopping by and providing your input. gabry85 Won't forget you this time The centre lanes were made possible by a texture available on the STEX by ryanb_sc4 called the "Two Way Left Turn Lane Mod" bbfan02 Thanks for stopping by again and I must admit if it weren't for all the custom content by all those excellent BATers out there, it wouldn't look anything like the real thing. nottheboss I will probably keep the World Trade Centre there as it really does epitomise NYC for me and many others but once the Freedom Tower is released I will definately add it to my city journal for a period of time. jacqulina Thanks for coming by and commenting again. autoVino Welcome and thanks for commenting. The detail is sooo important when trying to replicate a real city and I'm making sure I get as close to it as possible. This week's small update is a shot of how Midtown Manhattan is progressing with a lot of magnificent BAT's being showcased once again including the newly released XYZ buildings in the Rockefeller Complex. Comments as always are welcome and I will be back shortly with another update =]
  7. New York City

Aloha everyone, Just stopped by to answer a few replies topcliff You're right but I'm doing it to the scale of the map so it's just a smaller version. Yeah if you can be bothered photo's would be cool and feel free to post them on the forum if you want which reminds me I should show some of my 1000 shots I took when I was there for a week in April. penguin007 Thanks for stopping by. Kusajika Yachiru Thanks and yes if it weren't for all the surrounding skyscrapers as reference points it would be very easy to get lost. gabry85 lol, I'm sorry I didn't realise I missed you out in the last post I must have had a brain malfunction or something but once again thanks for stopping by and providing input it is greatly appreciated. 2nerdy4u Thank you, I did my best.=] Stay tuned for more adventures as the Big Apple comes to life!
  8. New York City

Hey guys and girls, Time for another update and once again it is of Central Park and this time I decided to show the whole thing over 3 screenshots just to show you how big it really is! First of all I'll answer a few replies topcliff Thanks for continuing to stop by I'm certainly not thinking of giving up for a long while yet especially when I start seeing progress myself. As fas as the tile is concerned I'll let you know once I finish one 2nerdy4u Thanks for the comment and believe me I'll update when something is worth updating =] jrhnemo Thanks for the support and yes you're right Manhattan is a little out of scale, reason being I find it more accommodating for my CJ and the ability to showcase more neighbourhoods on the one tile. Mike the Mayor Thanks for the encouraging remark, good to see I'm on the right path so to speak. jacqualina Thanks for the kind words and yes the park wouldn't have been possible without Peg's Ponds and the BSC parks pack among other excellent BAT's so I take my hat off to their creators. So now for the update. This is the Colombus Circle end of Central Park and home to the Central Park Zoo in the foreground as well as the ever popular "Lake" to the right. In this shot you can see the Museum of Modern Art in the foreground and in the background is the Museum of Natural History which I need to turn the right way around before anyone mentions it Last but not least is the Harlem end of the park which I think I may need to edit a bit in the future.
  9. 1221 Avenue of the Amercias

    Excellent work 10/10
  10. Celanese building

fantastic buildings here and a great addition to my NYC City Journal =] 10/10
  11. XDesign Team BAT Thread

I really do hope you guys decide to complete 1 and 4 WFC because the first two you released were excellent buildings and on a more selfish note so I can complete the Financial District in my New York City CJ
  12. New York City

Ok folks I think it's about time I made another update seeing it's been like 2 weeks since my last one (I know, very slack of me). Hopefully the wait has been worth everyone's while as I am including several pics of the most famous park in the world and one of the most impressive urban parks ever created, that park being of course Central Park which stretches from 59th right up until 110th St in Harlem/El Barrio. This pic was obviously one of my very early layout shots just to make sure I got the correct scaling to what it is in real life and trust me a lot of work has been done since then. What a difference a month makes, this picture shows the area of Central Park called the Mall which is the main thoroughfare and where most New Yorker's head for their Sunday Walk. The body of water to the right is called quite simply "The Lake" and is a hive of activity on a sunny New York day. Now in this picture shown is the area around the Museum of Modern Art with the little area of water called the Turtle Pond and the open grassy area to the right called The Great Lawn which during the summer months is where up to 100,000 New Yorkers congregate for free open-air concerts performed by the Philharmonic or the Metropolitan Opera. Now just remember this is my interpretation of Central Park and as much as I am going for realism, it's never going to be exactly like the real thing as there are only limits to what can be achieved in Simcity 4. All comments are welcome of course and if you would like to see more of Central Park please let me know and I will post some more pictures for you. So that's it for this update guys and gals. I think my next project on this CJ will be that of Liberty and Ellis Islands so make sure you stay tuned and keep on letting me know what you think =]
  13. New York City

Hey Everyone, Just thought I'd answer a few of your replies. topcliff Thanks for the comment, it's taken several attempts to get it how I want it with no doubt more changes still to come. Expect an update this weekend as I have almost completed Central Park which has taken me over a week to complete. gabry85 Thanks for the reply, the map is a little misleading at the moment, I plopped a whole lot of buildings in New Jersey as a reference of what to use on Manhattan Island but I will definately be starting on the area in the near future. Droftrah Thanks, I agree and I made sure that when placing the towers they were interpreted the same way they stood in reality as the focal point of the NYC skyline. Jman47 Thank you and I couldn't imagine a New York tribute without the World Trade Center. They shouldn't be forgotton nor should the people who were deeply affected by their demise. Yoshiisland Thanks! =] penguin007 Thanks for stopping by. Mike the Mayor Thanks, rubik3 did a fantastic job of the BAT, possibly the best released on the STEX and I did my best to make sure it was shown off to it's best ability. guguga Thanks for stopping by. My intention was to release a hybrid of old and new New York with respect to the World Trade Center. Inspecter Hi, when I stayed in the USA for 7 months I noticed many European cars throughout most main cities so it's not just restricted to NYC =] 2nerdy4u Thanks for the kind words and stopping by bbfan02 Thanks once again for stopping by. I will eventually make it that far but I'm concentrating on Manhattan Island until I've got it how I like it which could be some time. cmpd123789 First page you'll find the answer =] Skram Thanks for stopping by. Insane Child of Bodom Thanks, It's a mix of present and old NYC Stay tuned folks more to come this weekend with the unveiling of Central Park =P
  14. New York City

Thanks for the comments guys and gals, penguin007 Thanks, in that case I hope you enjoy my next picture. 2nerdy4u Thank you and yes it has been a lot of work! jacqulina Thanks and welcome to the CJ. SCkid Thanks and welcome. snotbowst Thanks, realism is what I'm going for so I'm glad you agree djlee1999 Thanks for the comment. gabry85 Thanks for a comment, always like to hear from people who know the real city. crazyarchitect Thanks for the kind words. Droftrah Thanks for stopping by. What I do usually is set up the main roads and avenues based off a map and then plop the landmarks and buildings that are off the STEX and then once that is complete I either grow or plop more buildings in order to give it the realism it needs. Update time again and this time it's another overview of the Finacial District.
  15. New York City

Hey everyone, thanks once again for the remarks. ivan10 You can rest assured it won't just be about skyscrapers even though New York is largely based on them. I will be developing each individual neighbourhood how it is in reality including Greenwich Village, Soho, Little Italy and Chinatown which are relatively low-rise compared to the rest of the city. jrhnemo Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment. cmpd123789 I will certainly be getting around to completing all those neighbourhoods but will be focusing foremost in developing Manhattan Island first and then moving outwards from there. gabry85 Thanks, just wait until you see Central Park Virtual_Pancake Thanks for stopping by Ok this time I am going to release a picture of the World Financial Centre at night as requested and also one of the Financial District as it stands at the moment with more refinements to come. Enjoy and all comments welcome =]
  16. New York City

Thanks for the replies everyone. I have been debating for a while whether to remove the median texture I currently have installed in my New York but there is reasoning behind having it in there. First reason is it makes them look wider than the default Maxis texture. Second reason is I want to use the default texture for Park Avenue to set it apart from the rest of the avenues in the city. I just hope that someone releases a 4 or 5 lane one-way road texture and it would be perfect for New York. More updates to come later on.
  17. New York City

Thanks everyone for the encouraging remarks and please stay tuned for more =] KingTitan I will definately release some pictures this week of the WTC and WFC with night lighting so stay tuned and thanks for visiting. topcliff Thanks once again for your input. I am in fact from New Zealand and visited New York for the first time earlier this year. The city inspired me to get back into Simcity 4 and to release this city journal. I am trying to go for realism but I feel New York isn't New York without the WTC. This means I will be going for a blend of old and new look New York's and incorporating all the New York BAT's released on the STEX. Fingers crossed that one of the many great BAT artists consider doing the United Nations building as it is such an important part of NYC. gabry85 Thanks for the welcome, glad you are enjoying the tour thus far. I am using claw's version of the NYC map off the STEX. It's not the most accurate in scale but I find it's the best one to use for city journals. Anyhow since I got so many previous responses I decided to release another shot, this time of a night-lit Washington Square Park with the Washington Square Arch looking up 5th Ave.
  18. New York City

Thanks for the response bbfan02 welcome to the CJ. I'm hoping it's a relatively fair representation of the area. Thanks also topcliff for your response. I too realised only after having taken the CJ quite a distance that the river was too low. I have decided to go with it, although it is proving difficult putting the ports in and making them look realistic. Anyhow, another small update, this time looking through the World Trade Centre to the World Financial Centre with the Chase Manhattan Bank Tower on the bottom right.
  19. NAM General Discussion Thread

Hey everyone, this question has probably been asked before but I just can't seem to find the avenue texture that includes the turning lanes in the middle instead of the barriers of the default Maxis texture. Where would I go to find this particular texture and if possible a direct link would be much appreciated. Cheers
  20. Quay Tower

Nice work Scotty, keep those Auckland buildings coming.
  21. 100 United Nations Plaza

Nice work Hanson, I can now add this to the near 50 NYC building's I have for my New York Region. Keep em' coming!!!!!! :D
  22. Vero Center

Nicely done Sam another great Auckland Landmark, it's certainly going to help in my recreation of Auckland in Simcity 4. Attention to detail seems to be your forte, it looks great and I couldn't possibly suggest anything to make it better. It is a testiment to your obvious talent, 10/10.
  23. West Plaza Auckland NZ

Nice work Sam, I work across the road from this Building and see it almost every day. How about some more Auckland Highrises from you, you seem up to the task. PriceWaterHouse Building would be a good one or even ANZ Tower.
  24. Auckland Skytower

This building makes me proud to be an Aucklander, well done sam you've done a great job....next you should build the casino to put next to it. a definite 10 for you my friend.
  25. Luxor Las Vegas

There is such a thing as a positive criticism BlackBeard, maybe if you chose your wording better instead of the sarcastic approach you could get your point across instead of insulting the guy.
