Misterquicks

Hey Everyone, After being signed up to this site since 2003 and not really having contributed much to it I thought it was about time to do something about it and start a city journal. After visiting New York for the first time earlier this year I felt inspired to try and recreate it in Simcity 4. I know this city has probably been done to death in the forums but I am always intrigued to see each individuals interpretations of this fantastic city. I myself am going for a relatively realistic approach to a degree that is possible within Simcity without going to overboard. The map scaling may be a little off but the overall look and feel of NYC will be well represented. I will be using many of the fantastic BAT's uploaded on the STEX to help me in the process including XDesign's World Financial Centre and rubik3's amazing World Trade Centre complex. Without further ado I will start this journal off with a picture of the Financial District at the bottom of Manhattan Island overlooking South Street Seaport. Please feel free to leave a comment and I will endeavour to update this CJ as often as I can with an update at least once a week.

I have to say for the gaming standpoint, the Xbox 360 is the best as it has a higher ratio of top games, PS3 is starting to compete, finally but I still feel it is more aimed at being an "entertainment" system rather than a fully fledged gaming rig like the Xbox 360. The Wii is aimed more at the casual/family gamer and certainly serves it's purpose well. As for the controllers, I love the Xbox 360's as it feels good in your hands, it feels solid and like you could throw it around a bit, the PS3 just feels a bit flimsy and I never liked it's design much and as for the Wii, it's a very cool idea and works well with the type of games released for the Wii but for the more action intense games on the other systems it wouldn't work so well.

Maybe they have been amassing a secret Gorilla army wanting their own back against all those vile poachers....................Planet of the Apes anyone? >.

Tallest Building in Toronto currently is First Canadian Place at 1165 feet, including spire so they do have one other than the CN Tower that would be classified as a "supertall"

No slacking off I promise lol anarchy0029: I must admit the features on the Island aren't as accurate as they should be but at the very least the shape and some of the key landmarks are of a resemblence. I'll leave this one open for editing in the future as it's my least satisfying update so far. jacqulina: Thanks a bunch. Artur_001: Thank you, I had a look on the STEX and found it was under Two Way Left Turn Lane Mod and the author of it was ryanb_sc4..........so that should help rusty_777: Thanks, I'm glad it looks realistic because that's one of my main aims. psander5: Thanks, the good thing is that it's not one of New York's really famous landmarks so it's not all that recognizable to a lot of people and as far as small island's go, if I can do them anyone can! The airport is starting to shape up really quite well and I'm enjoying putting it together as it's something different from all those islands! Stay tuned people there's plenty more to come and LaGuardia Airport is starting to come into it's own!

Hey everyone, managed to find a gap in my schedule to do an update. I'd like to thank everyone who has commented and offered your kind words and advice, it is as always much appreciated and the main reason I keep updating this CJ. Continuing on from the last couple of updates and the last of the series, mainly because there are no other islands off Lower Manhattan, I present to you Governor's Island. This one was particularly hard because of the lack of available BAT's that make it look like the real thing but I think I've managed to at least make it resemble the real thing in several ways. Anyhoo, on to a few replies first and then I'll post the update! Artur_001: Thanks for your comment, with the avenue, you will find them on the STEX, if you enter in lane divider or avenue on search it should come up....or at least I think it will! lucky7: Thanks, it will be good to see how your's turns out as a different point of view is always good. Renas: Thanks! This first shot show's an overview of the Island and to New Yorker's I hope it's instantly recognizable to you as this may be one of my weaker representations. Located in the middle of this picture is Fort Jay built in 1794 as a form of coastal defense and in the background is the all important car ferry for access to the rest of New York City. Now because my CJ is a fusion of old and new New York's as evidenced by my inclusion of the World Trade Centre in earlier updates, I have included the Coast Guard's headquarters on the island as it was prior to 1995. So that's it people, for now anyway and I'm thinking for my next update I should get started on at least one of the 3 International Airports of New York and I'll start small with La Guardia.......if you can call La Guardia small but I guess for New York's standards it is. Ohh yeah and please leave a comment as your input is valuable and appreciated =P

jacqulina: Thanking you, it took a while to get them how I wanted but I'm glad it paid off. Santos16: Thanks, believe me the WTC in my New York will be immortal as a sort of tribute to the horrific events of 9/11/01 that no one should ever forget. Weeks have turned into months as building placement is so crucial to getting it to look anything like New York City. psander5: lol, well it looked ok but I thought matching the textures would make it look more realistic and I'm happy with the result. Ok, I really do have nothing to complain about as we do actually have a pretty good summer here in New Zealand and after watching the British GP last weekend, I can't help but feel sorry for you guys and your miserable summers and I guess raping the earth of it's resources isn't helping the cause either. You could always escape to mainland Europe every now and then when you get sick of the rain so at least that's something! xxbydesign: Thanks, I'll definately release a region shot once I've put a few other things together because at the moment it's a lil bit of a mishmash. anik: Thanks for stopping by. Liberty and Ellis Island's from my current New York City CJ.

Well, seeing how this weekend was pretty cold, wet and generally awful, here in New Zealand anyway, I had a bit more time to spend on Simcity and with this extra time I managed to edit quite a few lots and also finish another small island. Now in my last post I showed you Liberty Island and I decided it wasn't finished as a lot of the textures didn't match, well that has been remedied as shown by the close up picture below. Now for my next update I have gone with Liberty Island's neighbour, Ellis Island. For anyone not familiar with New York's history, Ellis Island was the entry port for over 12 million migrants between the years of 1892 to 1925. It was where many people's dreams began and ended as entry could be refused due to ill health or any number of reasons that made little sense to them. Today Ellis Island has been converted into a museum devoted to the history of immigration.

If you are referring to the seawalls which I assume you are I'm not sure off the top of my head who made them but if you look up seawalls on the STEX and LEX you should find them. psander5: lol, I wish i could quit my job and focus solely on Simcity....actually in second thoughts, that would probably make Simcity 4 seem like a chore instead of a hobby. Hey everyone, it's been a week or so since my last update as I have been pretty busy with work. However I do have something be it small to give you all and I hope you like it. gndrew: Thanks for commenting. hunkske: Cheers! coolotter88: Thanks for your input, I was umming and ahhing about it when I started building it and the reason I didn't go ahead with it was the grass edging of the avenues which made it look spectacularly ugly. Now however that I was pointed in the right direction of swamper's avenue mod, I might go and give it another go, just to see how it looks. More to come soon!

Gonorrhea: Top first post there buddy, really quite constructive, lol nihonkaranws: Thanks, I didn't know the shortcut until now, so I appreciate the advice mcarch: lol, that's a lot of buildings you want me to find for you, I cangive you the names of some of the authors of those fantastic buildings but I'm not going to look for a link individually as that would take me all night. A lot of those buildings are made by Jasoncw and nofunk, so if you look them up on the STEX or LEX you should find almost half of them. Another BATter responsible for some of those great buildings especially the New York ones is Hanson who also has a great New York City recreation thread. The Cube building is the Police Cube so type in police and you should find it, and that court-room is well a court room so type that in the STEX and you should find it. panthersimcity4: Thanks very much for your reply and for stopping by. Cockatoo-210893: You are a life-saver, thanks so much for pointing me towards that first link as the grass patches were doing my head in, I have now remedied my road layout because of it and will post a new picture below showing how much better it looks. Thank You!!!! jacqulina: Thanks for the comment and I think the only way to see Times Square is during the night otherwise it just doesn't give the proper effect. penguin007: Thanks, that's half the problem with doing a New York City recreation because of it's density, you need to put in 3 times the buildings and 3 times the work in order for it to half resemble the real life thing. Thanks to Cockatoo for providing the link to swamper's avenue mod, which allowed me to clean up the road mess in the previous Times Square shot, so here is a small update showing the new road layout which I think looks a lot better.

Well the English Captain has now come out and said he made a mistake and should have withdrawn the appeal, so that action in itself shows how underhanded they were in pursuing the dismissal in the first place. You know what though, if you believe in karma, that over-throw on the last ball that allowed us to win the match was perfect and deserved. Poor poms, not having a good time of it at the moment what with the rugby drubbing recently and now the one-day series but I guess they can always hold on to that test series win for consolation prizes =P

Update time again folks and do I have a treat for you........or at the least I hope it is. Today is the official unveiling of my Times Square development which may or may not be my final version of it as I seem to be quite happy with the results. The layout of the avenues and roads could use work but the reason behind it was to try and get rid of those nasty grass patches that appear on the side of diagonal avenues and believe me filling it in with road pieces made it look a lot better. Anyhow, I'll stop blabbing on and get to the good stuff and that would be the pictures. Enjoy and please comment and let me know what you think and any other feedback you might have. Times Square, the most famous square in the world and the beating heart of New York City. Thousands of tourists decend on it daily to admire the way she lights up at night and to catch a Broadway show just around the corner. One of the most famous places in Times Square and a child or child at heart's dream is the Toy's R Us store complete with it's own life size T-Rex mechanical dinosaur and Ferris wheel. Virgin's Megastore is also a popular spot on the Square to stock up on CD's, DVD's and other merchandise. My personal favourite is the M&M store with floor to ceiling candy in great big tubes of every conceivable colour you could imagine, not for the faint-hearted. Times Square from another perspective as seen through the many skyscrapers of Midtown that surround her from all sides. Also a shameless plug of Ellen's talk-show peeking through and the Swatch store with all it's funky designs. Last but not least is a close-up on 2 Times Square, with it's world famous advertising hordenings that company's pay millions each year for and below that is the TKTS booth where you can get discount show tickets for all your Broadway shows, just make sure you line up early!
