What makes a 'City' a city..?
yellowguy88 replied to yellowguy88's topic in Architecture & Urban Planning
Originally posted by: torontotransit Back on topic, a city must have: -A public library -Most people work within city limits -Buildings taller than 10 stories, yes -In the downtown, the streets are on a grid making it easier to walk anywhere -Some public transit -High-ish density -NO big box stores -NOT master planned -Must have some small shops and local bars -Wide sidewalksquote> I don't think that apply's, considering Dublin average building heaight to be about 6or7 stories, also the grid pattarn in dublin is very old and so has alot of small streets that infact make it harder to walk places just like alot of european cities. I guess it depends on where you have grown up, european, american and asian cites are all very different in layout and make it ever harder to define a city on a global scale. As my mother lives in Manhatten i spent lot of time there and always think of New York as the 'perfect city'. Im sure alot people would agree on that one but Dublin does have its charm. oh and wasn't Manhatten 'Master planned'.. sim-fan192: lol I know its crazy.. were so tiny.. but everyone's heard of us! Toyko is around 35million.. getting that from wikipedia -
So, to everyone who hated the name "Freedom Tower"...
yellowguy88 replied to Duke87's topic in Current Events
Im not a fan of the 'Freedom Tower' i think it speaks of an america where everyone thinks they are the Freeist society on earth but that is not true.. What free society do you know that the government can listen in on your phonecall's, break into your house without a warrent and detain and torture you for upto 90days for absoulty no reason.. dare i say.. it sounds more like Nazi Germany, but i guess that's not the point here lol i also don't think One World Trade Centre is a good idea, i think it should be named after the street, the Vessey street tower, or The Vessey street World Trade Centre But i admit One World Trade Centre sounds the best..? -

I love Tokyo, went there for st.Patrick's day last year was great! amazing place amazing people! still cannot believe the size of it over 30million, wow coming from a country with 4.5million people you can imagine how cool it was to be there! how_deep: Can you have a town government, or is it just a chase of 'if your big enough to have a government your a city'? ExiL3:thats interesting, what was the rule b4 to be city?.. i wonder have you studied Dublin..we have some of the worst urban sprawl in the EU.. lol -
What makes a 'City' a city..?
yellowguy88 replied to yellowguy88's topic in Architecture & Urban Planning
Your rite its hard to define but i would consider Dublin and Cork the only 'real' cities in Ireland but im from Dublin so thats to be expected i guess! the smallest city in Ireland is Kilkenny at 25,000.. lol now thats seems large with the ones yous have mentioned.. So would yous consider those 2'cities' cities or towns? -
Hey i have version 1.1.610.0, and im trying to update sku1 US.. now my game wont let me play large city tiles its just keeps crashing on load up, do you think this could be because the Graphics Rules.sgr did not update? Thanks for your help by the way!
-
I wonder if anyone can help? When i try try to update simcity with sku1 while its installing its say file not found, but continues with the update.. it says update complete at the end. All the Simcity.dat files are updated but 'Graphics Rules.sgr' does not.. it stays at 19,116 bytes, does anyone know why this is?

yellowguy88 replied to danielcote's topic in Architecture & Urban Planning
I think I live in the most beautiful Town in Ireland, Its Trim Co, Meath Its over 1000years old and was once the capital Of Ireland (For a mear year)Its home to Ireland largest Castle and Europe's Largest 'Norman' Castle,Anyway some pic's.. First My fav 2buildings in Trim.. The Yellow Steeple and ancient Bell/watch tower, sits atop a hill in the centre of the old town it is still the tallest Building in the town by far and considering its 600years old its pretty amazing! The tall building is the yellow steeple, just next to it is Talbot Castle and off in Distance is another 600year old Chruch Tower. This picture is from The Town Centre, as you can see the steeple still dominates the skyline. Ok so Next fav building is Trim Court House which got a makeover a couple of years ago,I think the New and old parts of building mix really well together.. what do you think? And the New extension.. For more Pic's of Trim and the Castle below..visit the homepage wwww.trimtown.com or wikipedia. -
This My city of Atlantis, it used to be 3Volcano's but i flattened them out to make room for the growing city.

yellowguy88 replied to RON-E's topic in SC4 Bugs & Technical Issues
Can someone please help me im having the same problem i bought a new PC with high enough stats and SC4 keeps crashing after about 20mins i thought i didn't have enough RAM so i bought more, now my stats are AMD dual core, 500G Hard drive and 3Gigs of memory, 128mb dedicated Nvidia Card, my plug-ins folder is at 1.34gigs this isn't massive and it used to run fine on my older slower laptop with XP, should i just give up and go back to XP? -
Bout time the simcity fans strike back!!
yellowguy88 replied to Robstersfive's topic in City-Building Games
I QUOTE THIS (from wikipedia): Wright stated that Maxis is currently attempting to work out a "new direction" for SimCity after new versions had become "steadily more complex". He ended his comments on SimCity with the following: " SimCity kind of worked itself into a corner, (because) we were still appealing to this core SimCity group. It had gotten a little complicated for people who had never played SimCity. We want to take it back to its roots where somebody who had never heard of SimCity can pick it up and enjoy playing it without thinking it was really, really hard. I Hate SCS but I can understand why they choose to change the feel of Sim city, they made a mistake with SCS but i dnt think they'll ever bring out a new SimCity like SC4. I think the direction SimCity is goin now is Not as a Simulation of a City but more a fun game like the tycoon series, something not ' really, really hard' In saying all this I cannot wait for CitiesXL! I think this is where we will have to turn to get are ' really really hard' game!
