  1. 24 Hours of Gameplay. Must Read!

Thanks! You'll find the small maps are actually not that limiting. The limitations are around creativity in how your map looks because of the size. That doesn't mean you can't be creative with them, you just have to think it out more to make it your own. Besides that the game offers SO much more in challenges, so much more than SC4 ever did. You will find yourself immersed in the game play. I hope they do make the map sizes larger though, that would be great! I just feel like this game is hugely complex as is and engaging. Like I said myself, I am 100% sure this game is fine on its own (always online DRM issues aside). Reboot or not however, people can't help but compare it to previous iterations in the franchise. Just look at the new Devil May Cry and the fiasco that caused. And I believe playing the beta should count as me playing the game because while most of the actual buildings were locked, I could still see how the core mechanics of the game worked. Even if I didn't play it there are of course Youtube videos for me to see how the game works. Honestly though they had 10 years to make this game so I don't understand why they couldn't have put in terraforming, big cities, connected cities, etc. at least for singleplayer. Granted modding could have come later (as it did with SC4) but they really should have implemented large cities and stuff like that for singleplayer...except they didn't. And it is sad that they will probably add things like terraforming and large cities as micro DLC which is exactly the reason people were pissed at Sims 3. Yes the actual simulation is more complex in this game than in SimCity 4, but the game as a whole is definitely not. Can you recreate New York, or perhaps Paris, or even a city on mars with this game? Can you make a sprawling metropolis consisting of connected cities next to eachother surrounded by farms/suburbs? In this game can you carve out your landscape terraforming mountains, river beds, perhaps even oceans? No you cannot. Which is why to me (and to me personally) this game is not worth $60 because it offers less of a creative experience than SimCity 4. I don't hate the game by any means. I really do like glassbox and all it offers which is why I will purchase the game in the end. Because like I said once the servers are stabilized and the game is ~$30 I will pick it up and play it as SimCity Social. The game would have been epic however if it was basically SimCity 4 + 3D graphics + curved roads + glassbox.
  2. 24 Hours of Gameplay. Must Read!

Okay no offense but either you must have been paid by EA to post on these forums or you just purposefully ignored my post. I just pointed out how they made this game a limited and bare bones version of SimCity 4. How do you justify that? They could have easily made a singleplayer mode with all of these features from the previous games. But instead they alienated an entire demographic in order to make this a social and casual facebook-esque game. Which is said because underneath all of the restrictions is glassbox which is a terrific engine. This is not worth $60 especially at this moment and is certainly not better than the previous games when it has less content than them. I will not buy this until it's $30 or less (which will probably happen by the summer judging by the reception the game is getting).
  3. 24 Hours of Gameplay. Must Read!

While I'm sure the game is fine on its own, I don't really think it's a worthy successor to SimCity 4. Let's forget about the DRM issues for a moment. How can they justify the removal of modding, terraforming, cities next to eachother, big cities, subways, ordinances, ploppable highways, and many other features from the previous games, even from singleplayer? I played the beta too and while I was impressed with the simulation, I felt restricted by all the limitations imposed and could not bring myself to purchase the game. I think the only truly innovative thing about this game (besides the curved roads) is the glassbox engine. It is really a milestone in city simulation brought down by the rest of the game. It's sad because so much more could have been done with the use of this engine. I'm sure multiplayer is fun (heck I'd probably use 50% of my time playing with others), but I would have loved an option for me to play on my own with no restrictions including small city sizes and the sky as the limit in terms of city creation (i.e. modding, sprawling metropolises with cities next to eachother, etc.). If large cities were a problem for multiplayer, they could have given us a true offline singleplayer mode with big cities that are connected to eachother, terraforming, mod support and all those other good things. All of that combined with the use of glassbox would've made a truly epic game. But right now this game feels like a bare bones version of SimCity 4. If they charge $10 for things like larger cities (which they probably will) that'll be a slap in the face to long time fans since these were already in the previous games. Reboot or not, games in a franchise are always supposed to improve upon previous games in the same franchise (i.e. Mario, Zelda, etc.). So much potential here that was lost because of EA's effort to casualize and socialize this game. Like I said I'm sure it's a fine game on its own but I don't think it should be called SimCity. SimTown 2 is a better name imo. I'll probably pick it up once it's in the bargain bin because I don't think it's worth $60.
  4. Yes, but I doubt we'll be seeing another SimCity for a while after this debacle.
  5. Give Them A Break

Can anyone explain why Sims 3 was worse than Sims 3 to me? I bought the game and I thought it was better than Sims 2 because of the real time play. The obviously frustrating thing was all the micro DLC you were bombarded with and the content left out from the previous games. But thankfully there are other ways to acquire such content
  6. A New Perspective On SimCity

That second pic is simply beautiful. It's wonderful what mods can do to SimCity 4. Too bad we'll never see something like this in the new SimCity. Even the Paris building set is worse in quality than the stuff produced by the people at this website.
  7. Well I finally did it

Man this makes me want to reinstall and start up SimCity 2000 and 3000. I don't know where my copies are exactly but I know they're collecting dust somewhere in the basement XD.
  8. warning

It's not unprecedented for EA to hire trolls for forums: https://imgur.com/r/masseffect/0zySS
  9. Omg. I think I'm about to cry tears of joy. Finally EA gets what it deserves. Bravo gamespot bravo! Wow haha..
  10. Yeah. And for some reason the news article was removed after I posted the link too. But if they're going to remove kickstarter then every link that links to a page with ads (most gaming websites), shows SimCity 2013 for sale or simply shows a Sims game on sale should be taken down as well. Kickstarter is a professional and reputable website and I don't think posting a link to it should constitute as advertising (especially since I don't even own Kickstarter or Civitas). Most of the article is about the features of the game anyway and is not spammed with messages asking for money.
  11. Umm they're 5 days in and they already have $18,000. They have 25 more days so I think they have a chance.
  12. The thing is Boomtown doesn't have any in-game screenshots or videos so we have no feel of how it will look. If it had those things I would be more inclined to lend my support. By the way they just put up a video today showing off the terraforming capabilities and it looks pretty. He was a little sleepy so it may drag on for a little bit
  13. EA help chat is a joke

Ugh. We can offer you a refund but we cannot offer you a refund.  WOW just speechless. Ughh.... Why do people put up with this company again?
  14. Ahh my bad. Mods please take this down if you see fit. Can't seem to keep up with the forums because of all the posting going on.
  15. Because of all the pre-orders from people who were dooped into getting the game expecting it to be good and have a stable launch. Diablo 3 became a best seller but wasn't exactly a stellar game was it? Thankfully people are asking for refunds on this site and many others.
  16. We waited 10 years for this?

Their policy is to disable online services for games when the amount of people playing is "fewer than 1% of all peak online players across all EA titles" (http://www.ea.com/1/service-updates) . As the amount of peak online players increases as EA implements more games with heavier online components, the number of people expected to make up 1% increases. 1% of all people playing EA games online is pretty big in the first place, too. Regardless of whether the player count will get that low, the game WILL be shut down once they release SimCity 2015: Now with more DRM!
  17. Your worst fears, TRUE! READ!

Right, because our experience with every other online game, EVER, agrees with this... oh wait, no it doesn't. Every MMO ever released had overcrowding at launch for the simple reason that every player wanted to play a lot on the very first day. The average MMO gamer plays twice as many hours per week for the first week or so that he does for the rest of his game lifetime, and companies know it. It's not worth it for them to double the number of servers just for that first week, so we get overcrowded, laggy servers for a few days. But in the long term, it all turns out fine. so you think it turned out fine for D3 when it lost 2/3rds of its player base shortly after release? it's all about the launch, sweetie. you might be able to connect just fine a month from now, but will anyone still be online to play with you? and you know, D3 was largely just having server problems. With SC2013, there is clearly something wrong not only with the servers, but the game itself. a disturbingly large chunk of players are losing their cities due to dysenc errors, and they're getting real tired with it. this game definitely will be in the running for worst launch of 2013.. sorry to break it to you but this is a disaster of epic proportions. hopefully EA and Maxis take this as a learning experience about what not to do. On every forum I've visited (including this one) people are already asking for refunds. Heck there is even a devoted topic to getting refunds on the official SimCity forums. I think people are getting fed up and we will see the player base drastically get reduced in the next few weeks if these issues aren't resolved, similarly to Diablo 3. There are a plethora of problems regarding the launch of this game which has even forced gaming sites like polygon to lower their scores so yes I think this may be the worst launch of 2013..
  18. Yeah and other sites that review the game are reliable (i.e. the ones that review the game favorably)? User/independent reviews tend to be the most honest and revealing since they warn potential customers about serious issues related to the game. Plus they can't really be bought like how some gaming site reviews are bought (directly or indirectly through ad revenue). Yes reviews in the gaming industry are bought. It's been revealed many times by former employees/leaks.
  19. Holy Crashes Batman!

My exact situation. I think I'm just going to not play for a few days. Just get a refund and don't get the game until they fix this crap.
  20. Holy Crashes Batman!

It's happening to a lot of players apparently. I have not only seen the issue pop up on this forum but other forums as well. This is what you get with always online DRM.
  21. Salted popcorn ? Salted AND buttered
  22. Can't say I didn't see this coming >_>... All I can say is grab the popcorn and enjoy the show.
  23. If that didn't make you laugh then I don't know what will.
  24. didn't see the video but I can imagine. pretty much playing out exactly how I would have predicted. It's by the Francis character on youtube. You can look it up. I am pretty much done with the forums on this website. Too many angry mods who take out all of the fun in things. Don't want to waste anymore time making a topic/post that criticizes or makes fun of the game and see it removed the next day.
  25. He is actually acting. He did another similar video about the Diablo 3 launch. If you look at his other videos he talks about serious topics like suicide, depression, being obese, etc.
