  1. Synekism - A New City Simulation Game

Hey, Firstly, just to clarify, do you mean that the "Click and Drag" functionality doesn't work when in dezone mode? As for your suggestion, we did think of moving it to the middle button, but as you said this will conflict with laptops, furthermore it also conflicts with several USB mice such as newer Logitech mice. If this were not the case we would have chosen that button. Later on we will have the option to change the camera controls, but for now the it will remain the same. In any case, thank you for giving us feedback on this function. Aktof
  2. Trees then City

Hey, I dont think there is a seed tool per-say, Simcity trees don't really have a lifecycle so they dont seed and grow anew. I'm not sure exactly if this is what you mean, if not please specifiy Aktof
  3. Speed Limits

Actually this brings up a few interesting thoughts on realism: 1) What if the distance between intersections or density of the zones around the roads could affect speed limits -> traffic. I see this around where I live as the road transits to the edge of the suburb the speed limit goes up 10km/h 2) The same applies to roads that go cross country, you see this on two lane "highways", the speed limits are pretty fast but its pretty much the same size of a road if we try to create this in simcity. 3) School zones would reduce speed around a certain area, causing the player to think about placement, city planning more carefully, Ex. Nearby there is a "Road" that goes from 60 to 40km/h.
  4. Yes communism would be nice if it worked. Part of the wish for a communist government in simcity already exists. Its up to the mayor in this game to determine how socialist the city need be, only the method is completely authoritarian. But to have a running "Communist" government in a pure form, not the pseudo Russian kind, would require a vast system to account for every persons ideas on a policy and vote for it. Apart from being completely impossible, collating and agreeing on complex issues would take forever. Republics like the states work fine as it is the right size to acquire a general consensus while taking into account public opinion, keep in mind im talking about ruling method not social policy and that these are perfect hypotheticals, not taking into corruption, etc..

Please let us know how intuitive you find the new "click and drag" camera system, overview, and rotate functions. Aktof
  6. Synekism - A New City Simulation Game

Its nice to hear feedback from you guys Tysons4, The idea of reactionary buildings being given to the player is a another facet we will have expand upon. I like your idea of having components that together will create something greater, eventually building up to larger more complex mechanisms. Its a tricky thing adding alot of complexity to a game, I for one like it alot to manage minute things, but I find when games turn into, for a lack of a better term, something like Anno. At the very high end stages alot of things you have to keep track of becomes exhausting. There is a fine line of course, but nonetheless I look forward to when we will talk about such an idea. Ilikeseattle, The roads for now are free ranging in angles with a minimum amount to prevent ones that are too acute. You can hold down shift and ctrl for different functions as to create joint roads or at 45 degree angles. We will continue to work this seem more relaxed in the future and allow greater versatility when placing lots. This is probably where the different lot densities will come into play. Currently we have a function that releases a higher density of building as your population grows. It also takes in a as a factor the amount of government lots nearby. Later on we will move on to player controlled densities as you said, not sure when, but it is definite! Thanks for the reply!
  7. My Sims/Advisors

I think they are still usefull from time to time, when you have access to new stuff, cancelled deals or are going over power and water. Other than that they pretty much are just as a showcase. Atleast they are better than the silly Simcity 3000 advisors, but still doesnt beat "YOU CANNOT CUT BACK ON FUNDING" guy.
  8. Make Historical

I'm confused, why? Just for kicks?
  9. I need feedback please

The newspaper looks pretty good, but then again alot of people do it, not that its a bad thing. What might be a more fresh look at the whole idea is maybe posters of happenings around town, citizen voice, web-blog type screenshots, maybe even the real thing as a few have done. If you think of a real city and how news gets around nowdays, Imagine that for your city. My two cents.
  10. Low Wealth Struggle

Another option if you dont like alot of R$ being in your main city is to create a ancillary city next door, hopefully with good connections, with the majority of the population and the reflected amount for R$$ and R$$$ will be in your main city. The only issues with this option is that you will have to grow them together and also that commute times will suffer accordingly depending where their jobs are. Best of Luck!
  11. Some Questions

Do you mean graphics in-game being of low quality or editing the photos for the City journals? Sometimes its also STEX stuff people download that have more vibrant colours. Please specify. On your second question, you can also try using porky's packages, he has very nice roadside trees that come with his stuff.
  12. photo editing software

I would suggest Photoshop Elements, its not too pricey as its more advanced versions. It offers alot of great qualities and options. Other than that, GIMP, as said earlier, is much like photoshop just a little rough around the edges but it is free.
  13. Anybody afraid?

I think if anything a small group of dedicated simcity fans will likely go and try to create the next "Simcity". The great part about this genre is that much development and improvement is made by the community ;if the developer allows it. The problem with the last few city games is that they have stifled such interaction. Hopefully the next game will not make a similar mistake. Seven years is quite a long time, but I'm sure something will surface soon.
  14. Good topic, I enjoy plugins to simply enhance some of the qualities of the game for instance NAM as you said. Items that plop or are cheap are the ones i find that devalue the gameplay, Simcity seems to be quite easy and you should not require so many plugins to make it easier. Yet, it is freedom of choice cant really force people to not use so many plugins. The one thing I find that the massive amount of plugins is good for is the diversity and continuity they create, I mean for a game that is so old its community and new content is not stifled. The amount of customization and freshness added can counter any amount of DLC's that otherwise the producers would make you pay for. Its a mixed blessing, If people wouldnt download I think it would be stagnated due to lack of response. My two cents. My two cents.
  15. Simcity 5

I think this issue is done over many times on the forum, there is a thread for it, and anyways EA doesn't listen to its customers. Personal: Also, do you really want them to dumb down simcity like they do with all other games.
  16. Your Regions and their Population

Just started after getting a new computer, Regions is about 50,000 with the largest medium tile city being 44 of it
  17. make sure a)frieght stations are directly next to a rail b) you have connections to other cities via rail or as capt said seaports. maybe try adding them in different industrial areas, see what the results are there?
  18. Ordinances (Complete List)

Cool stuff, this list is pretty useful, it would nice if this was stickied somewhere Thanks for doing all this work!
  19. Low school attendance

what you could do is if you have alot of low density buildings with the old people in it is to zone them into medium let that grow up and it would have a newer crowd in it, you can also do this with med/ high and then zone it down to medium which would reduce the damage done to the neighbourhoods. Other than that you just have to wait till the old people go away and someone comes to take their place, which is a really long time if the healthcare is good.
  20. Duwamish: The Green Republic (COFR)

Hehe, sued apple I like your city, the little additions like the newspaper and such add a nice identity to it aswell! continue the good work !
  21. I used to have this issue alot with my dense very badly planned cities when I first started playing 2004 (man this game is old) it was very tedious and made me feel really bad about all the tiny sims being made homeless or jobless just for a few subway stations or a new superhighway going through their house (sorry mr.arthur dent) . Later on I tried to avoid this as much as possible though by preplanning downtowns, giving green room around highways for trees or maybe the ocassional police kiosk or whatever. The preplanned areas had subway stations, monorails and highways for inter/ intracity travel so later on it wouldnt be such a quagmire, all this just to avoid demolishing...
  22. Hey, Yes you can! (ho-ho) I did it back in the days of vanilla simcity 4 it just takes a bit longer than if you were to plop but I think its more rewarding that way, just keep at it!
  23. I think the one of the most interesting parts for me is building the roads and infastructure of the city, making sure everything follows a pattern or rule. Its like the perfect game for OCD people Its funny how people usually start of aiming to build giant metropolis and eventually move on the giving their city an identity or look, this aswell is a point of great interest. P.S. sorry i didn't use the word fun
  24. Getting back into SimCity...

Two things that I always love to have in my cities is a real trainstation and sea walls, I think you will like these as well: https://www.simtropolis.com/stex/details.cfm?id=17519 https://www.simtropolis.com/stex/details.cfm?id=21700 https://www.simtropolis.com/stex/details.cfm?id=16713 i think these will fit into your rural areas well https://www.simtropolis.com/stex/details.cfm?id=15410 i also like these looks best of luck and welcome back!
