It is in the upper-right part.quote> I got the size of the proposal from this (^) But it seems this is where I went wrong: Originally posted by sim-Al2An industrial park is actually a good idea. PLEASE GIVE THE BUILDING CODES! I don't know about a suburb, although I would be more than happy to build one at a later date. The industrial park won't occupy the entrie space, since I would like to start a new company there. And I propose a small expansion of the port if anymore industry is built. (cough) CDK3 I think we need a bigger passanger dock too.quote> Apologies sim-Al2 for not contacting you directly. Since you seem to be happy to proceed with my 'over-cooked' statement I guess there's no harm done. Maybe we could explain it thus: "You are the owner of the land, and keep a portion of it for your construction business, but you lease the rest of it to independent firms, making a shed load of money from rent!" This way if you choose to expand your business empire you can simply evict your tennants at will! oh, and by the way you also said this: Originally posted by sim-Al2On my property of course. It would likely be I-D or maybe I-M. It will be low denstiy as the yard will just be for storing equipment. Maybe a few small buildings for admistration too. I can make a mock-up and will try to post it tonight. quote> ... which is why I mentioned dirty industry. I should have also mentioned above that you only wanted low density, so again... sorry. Regarding your large buildings enquiry: The planning department is reluctant to give blanket permission to build large buildings in Virgin Shores. Individual proposals would be welcomed though, and judged on an individual basis. quote> Blahhhh blah blah blah blah.... Okay, I'm going to clariff what I mean for my plan and stop confusing everyone. 1. Build medium-sized construction yard. Since Psander5 insists so badly, it will be I-D. 2. Create small industry park with small 1x2 and 2x2 buildings, perhaps with 1 to 2 larger buildings of DTP's choice (only these will be plopped, I will like most of the others to be grown)Maybe 8 to 10 of the smaller buildings. 3. Construct CDK-Ind (the old CDK) along redone coast-segment (adding a tiny bit of land) 4. Build a road directly to port (I can't wait till the TLA-3 gets released!I hope it does.) Notes: The industry will be tentets like Psander5 said. Pollution will be low because of the size and the type of the lots( I think Jerrstar's should be the ones built.) If possible, some land further inland would be procurred, although not exactly sure, and this will not be constructed upon.Yet.

All you people are complaining about water pollution. So, I have created a solution. We need to build a coastal water treatment facility. A design has not been decided yet, so I ask all my minions....errr....friends to go out and find any and all custom content that does water treatment and looks good. The only requirement is that it can not be a radical building or mod. Include a picture and why you think it should be built. I will propose one, but it may be a little bit. About your idea Mr. Monorail Man: Another seaport is bascially out of the question. A RHW-2 is just a little extreme. The speed increase is neligable over such a short distance. A normal road would be fine since it will not be a very large industial area i.e. no 10,000 job buildings. The waterfront I talked about is for: A. Adding slightly more land area and stopping erosion. and B. Making movement of small parcels for consolidation at Hawk Island easier.

Originally posted by: deathtopumpkins sim-Al2: Huh? I thought you said before you went away you wanted industrial? OK then... What EXACTLY do you want instead? I'll delete the poll, and we'll forget this ever happened. Just tell us EXACTLY what you want. Sorry. quote> Awww..... You deleted the poll. I didn't mean that I didn't want it to happen. I just meant that I didn't want HUGE industry. I wanted small factories, not the Pollute All Water In The World LLC. Sorry if I didn't get that across. About the oil thing with Archean: DTP's right about the oil on the plane thing. If you could even find a plane big enough, it would consume almost as much fuel getting out of there. As being a flight simulator ethusist(unfortunley I haven't palyed in a while though)I would know about payload vs. fuel realtionships. You could also build a pipeline to the coast and then ship it. Or perhaps, if a sci-fi theme could fit, you could even find one of the the spaceship BATs floating around somewhere and make it a space-tanker(applicable to inter-plantertary,although it really wouldn't make any sense if they have easy inter-plantertary travel but no good (non-fossil fuel) pwer solutions.) Also, unless their REALLY big, three wells is far too little. I can't think of a good number, but likely at least twenty to be actually viable. BTW DTP: I still want to do something with oil trading. I think I'll be adding oil production to my renewed region(do you think I should put in my signiture? it's at SC4D.)

Statement regarding sim-Al2's proposal The proposal: To build a construction business (already approved) and related manufacturing & dirty Industry in the location as marked on the map below. The department of planning has been in discussion with the mayor of Virgin Shores regarding this issue. We have come to the decision that this should be put to a vote as the approval of a large industrial zone like this could affect the whole city and it's future. Things to be taken into account while you're making your decision to vote are; Increased jobs will mean increased population leading to population expansion. With that comes the need to expand almost all related services, so other council departments need to take this into consideration. The proposed industry would be in a prime coastal location which may, in the future be more valuable to residential and commercial development. Special attention will need to be paid to the existing transportation network as this development will likely shift the nature of traffic towards the north end of the city. Provided all of these issues can be attended to, the department of planning would support the new development. We believe that Virgin Shores would benefit greatly from new employment opportunities. Our only objection is to the propsed location, but we at the department will abide by any outcome of the vote.quote> Where in the world did you get this huge industry zone idea? I want to build a small to medium-sized construction yard and I get a freakin' industrial wasteland! I actually do like the idea, but I was never contacted and then suddenly you started proposing building on my land. About the coastline space; Isn't there enough in the region already? And just way till its get filled and we're proposing artificial islands(I hope we get that far!) EDIT: Of course,an industrial wasteland gives me stuff to build automatically. In fact, I already have ideas. Proposal: Industrial Wasteland: A small waterfront using the CDK-2 Indutrial set would go well. Some leveling would be required(and some hill leveling somewhere)but, a small ship lot (the express boat) would increase productivity. Can I recieve permission to build larger buildings if I sumit them to you?

DTP: When you get online could you PM me so I can give you my email? Also, do you mind if I do some "minor" terrain editting? I don't think the port is large enough for much as it is. I do like the shape though. As for the first settlement, ( can you name it so we have a reference?) I'm going to try to make a small container port set. If you I can make it look satisfactory, can you help me mod and in general make it look professinal? I'm thinking of using ethier PEG's docks or JRJ docks and small cranes(to be decided.) Sorry for the length, but ST has been down for a while.

emailing your port tile would help tremendously as I test special layouts. Although I would would need to sort diffrent plugins first, or I'll just give you a pixel per tile map.

Psander5: This is a 1x2 building. It does look nice. crazyarchitect: It would be better to get the library as part of the Educational Models and Educational Lots set on LEX to improve preformance.
-
psander5: can you inform me on the status of my construction permit? I would like to start shipping in equipment soon. DTP: who cares about Eminent Domain right now? For every sim you displace, 50 will come apparently. jacqulina: To get 32,046 posts, you must have been posting since day 1! DTP-Again: Could you send a game overview of Hawk Island? Overview of cities that are possible to connect by bridge would be nice. A detail overhead, or even a SC4 Terraformer 3d view would also help. And how does 8 to 9 container berthes sound?
-
here isthe oil set I have been talking about. You'll have to be registered and logged in to the LEX to be able to download it though. It has quite a few dependencies but it is still very nice and looks AWESOME! https://www.sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=1549

DTP: that's it! You've made me do something I really don't want to do. Here's the link. (VERY long, I know) http://64.233.179.104/translate_c?hl=en&sl=ja&u=http://members3.jcom.home.ne.jp/somy000/&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dhttp://members3.jcom.home.ne.jp/somy000/index.htm%26hl%3Den%26rls%3Dcom.microsoft:en-us&usg=ALkJrhg-lFEXbcie8UgFWZ8vQjUfY4wtaA the sets you will probaly be most concerned with are on the home page, page 6, page 7, and page 8. It would be a good idea to look at the other pages if you like any of the other stuff he's made. The glitch on pages 1,2, and 3 seem to be caused by the translator, as the pictures can be seen in the non-translated. I don't understand what could be wrong, but whatever. As for the newspaper, you forgot the port expansion!(which looks great by the way) BTW, what happened to my construction busniess? I never recieved any paperwork or anything else about. If you still don't like it, I'll just build a house there. EDIT2: Who has been building all the new buildings? The first were built by the entire group if sims, but the port is too heavy an undertaking for a small, manual labor group. Do you have a holding company we don't know about? The rest of the update looks good too. Just one question. Is the UC allowed to suck all the water out of the ocean without me saying anything about it? I was thinking that the ocean based plants are technically waterfront elements, are they not? EDIT: First post of Page 12! And the DWR appreciates the crane barge. It will be useful in future construction and mantainence operations.

Sp3 is a recent update. In fact, the computer I'm posting this on has SP3, but since I don't have SC4 installed on this computer, I can't tell, although I have another game that requires a more powerful computer than SC4 on here and it runs fine.
-
sorry but all I can find is the textures they require and a forest set they may or may not be what you need. What lot/sets do you need these for anyway? Unfortunly, these are only avaliable at the LEX at www.sc4devotion.com. you need to register at the BSC File Exchange to be able to download these. https://www.sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=474 https://www.sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=90

I found a good ferry dock! If we're going to expand the port, maybe we can use this bad boy http://simpeg.com/forum/index.php?action=tpmod;dl=item124 So you don't like the SFBT tank. You know it's a building family, so there is more than one logo. How could you not see the Industry Set? It's on the last and the second-to-last page. I'll link it if you need to later.(yawn) Embassy sounds good to me. I just realized that this ferry thing is going to turn into another poll. PAGE FLIP BUG ALERT! I couldn't see some of the first posts right away. Stupid Bug!

simmars-forum-threads Nuclear Power plant vs fusion power plant
sim-Al2 replied to gamenomad's topic in General Off-Topic
the magnetic field on mars means squat to the magnetic field produced. the field is produced by extremely powerful super-magnets and the field acts directly on the plasma inside the reactor, it does not depend on the planet/vehicle it is on/in. -
Well, I know of a large tank by SOMY on his website. I know you can't read Japanesse(I can't ethier) so, all you have to do is copy the URl and paste into the google search page. If your lucky, the first result will have a small link on the side saying "translate this page". Any of the other pages you visit will be translated automatically. Also, stay away from pages 2 and 3 (I think) because they are some sort of "BAT Warehouse" that appears to be somehow damaged. Of course, there is the SFBT Oil Tanks on the STEX(I think)altough iterestingly, the single tank has it's describtion in German and the 4x large tank lot in English. EDIT: Got the link https://www.simtropolis.com/stex/details.cfm?id=16012 A overview (hopefully detailed SC4T and a game overview) would be nice. And tell me what kind of port and industry bats and lots you have. I found some interesting ones you might find useful. EDIT2: If any one is interested in a Awesome refinery set I found, just PM me.

I noticed something about your control tower. The tower is very close to the runway, indeed so close that it is almost in the perfect place to get sliced by a Boeing 747 wing in about 4 diffrent places. You'll definitly want to move it back if you want to avoid a rather nasty accident. P.S. I once looked at the model for the planes you are describing in the Ilive Reader, and they are actually big cube-like objects with the textures painted on a certain fashion. I think this comes from the way they are rendered and not how they were orginally modeled.

Originally posted by: deathtopumpkins DOR: OK. That's a confusing diagram, so let me make sure I get this straight: Move oil pier a few tiles north. Fill in it's old location with some row warehouses What do I replace thsoe tanks with? They are "petroleum tanks." Fill in open tile (I have a filler lot with a matching texture). Extend Pier One to have ships dock farther from shore, and add in a spot for barges. Replace ferry dock (give me something to replace it with) Not necessarily, as in RL water towers just store water for use during peak hours, and since water pipes use pumps instead of relying on gravity, it doesn't really matter where on the system s tower is. Lastly, don't put too much here, as we've still yet to develop the region's primary port, Hawk Island (one city tile to the north).quote> I kinda forgot about Hawk Island. Of course, how will you get freight from there to the mainland? It doesn't matter now, but it will eventually. Sorry about the diagram being messy, but it was the only way I could show you what I meant. 1. Correct. Maybe 8 to 10 tiles? 2. Correct. 3. Bigger petroleum tanks. Duh! 4. Go Ahead 5.Correct 6. Actually, not sure but will work out something, or I'll bothering you about that tiny thing. 7. Whatever, but RL planners try to use water towers to pressureize water mains when possible. 8. I really want to plan a big port, but that will have to wait. P.S. When we get bigger industry, we'll definitelly need container docks. Those can go on Hawk Island though.

To ya'll, I present my port plan. (movie worship sound) Please post suggestions, ideas, or comments and I will get back to you guys when I feel like it.

There is a very good reason for there to be no rail suspension bidges in SC4. None exist in real life! The reason for this is that any train clacking along the brdge would vibrate it to the point where it would disenigrate and fall into the chasm/body of water it was built over i.e. Tacoma Narrows Style. Some exceptions exist, but these involve double network brdges and light trains like those in a mass transit system. We've found out that dual-network bridges basicly can't be made to work. So unfourtantly, no suspension bridges for rail.
-
DTP: Could you also post a picture/chart of the ferry usage. BTW, where are the people on the ferry going?
-
DING DING DING... We have a winner! If you give some planning resources (cough)map(cough) I will plan you a expansion.Of course, there aren't any good small container ships of what I was thinking of.
-
SOMY has a nice small oil tanker in one of his Industry Sets. I don't know the link off the top of my head, but there a special sub-forum at SC4D that has links to many different Japanese websites.
-
Ahhh...yes...the frontier. Wait....there's a frontier? Of course I know there's a frontier. Question is now, where's the oil tankers? And we need more berths for smaller ships. I suggest a small expansion, like an extension to the pier with more barge room and some kind of micro-container operation.
-
You know DTP you could use one of PEG's small solar power stations. Their 1x2 so they would fit. Preferbley the V2 as giant AA batteries don't look very realistic.

sim-Al2: Mr Planning Department needs a little more information! Where in the city would you like your business to be based? And what type of industry would your business be? Don't forget to stick to the zoning codes when choosing a building (were applicable) quote> On my property of course. It would likely be I-D or maybe I-M. It will be low denstiy as the yard will just be for storing equipment. Maybe a few small buildings for admistration too. I can make a mock-up and will try to post it tonight.
