I've put in four monorails. Two are working very well, carrying lots of passengers. The other two have 0 passengers. (I've waited enough time to see if they'll be used.) What's the key?

I guess I just can't get the hang of this game. I just can't seem to get my city to grow past 150 to 160,000 population. I'm barely making any money now and frequently start losing money. I've developed two neighboring towns. I thought that would make my main city grow. The effect has been negligible. I've got very little undeveloped terrain to develop. It's a bleak picture. I wish I knew what I was doing wrong. At one time I had 200,000 population. Just can't seem to get the hang of it.

I'm getting a bunch of commuters on my two main rails. The problem is, I can't run the monorails through the cloverleafs and the highway systems. Can you connect a monorail to some kind of underground system? I doubt it.

I hear the concerns about the super demand mod. I'm using it now with my main city, but I don't plan to use it with every tile/city I build. I'm still learning the game, though, even with the mod in my main city.

Good news, folks! I installed the Super Demand mod. Now my city is over 200,000 sims! Hoo boy, that demand has now become a beast whose hunger is never satisfied! Once I turned on the ordinance, everything moved into high gear. So thanks again for the advice. I think I'm back on track now.

I have a city of about 160,000 sims. There's precious little unzoned terrain left to develop. Someone suggested I rezone some areas for higher density. But when I click on the RCI indicator to see what's in demand, it usually indicates R$ as the highest column. When you zone new property, do you go by that column of R$, even though you want R$$ or R$$$?

Thanks for the quick replies. This is good advice.

Spacing between the streets in a new city
lorenzo48 replied to ShadowVFX's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
These are some good ideas, thanks. I have a city of 160,000. The downtown is pretty much on the grid layout, and I get lots of messages about overloaded streets. I do have some highways, some bus stations, and some subway. I still get those messages, though. How can I relieve the pressure on those streets? -
Dunmovin has pretty well capped at around 60 to 70 thousand residents. I've also started losing money. Too many fires are also breaking out. I've studied the tips and tricks, though, and have gained some good understandings. I think I need more open spaces, especially between residential and industrial zones. Any and all suggestions are welcome.

the streets in your residential zones maybe should be turned to roadsquote> Why's that? Not enough traffic on them? Also, mass transit should be added to coax people back into your city. Start with elevated rail so you don't waste too much money. How many tiles does the elevated rail take in width? Jason: Ill try to upload a pic of the region and cities if yall wanna check thrm out.quote> Yeah, do that, Jason. One thing I've found out: I don't have enough memory. One time I even got kicked out to the desktop. I've got to get some more memory.

Census Repository Facility, Version 2
lorenzo48 replied to RippleJet's topic in SC4 Modding - Open Discussion
Good work, Ripplejet. I was referred to your thread here by a guy who posted on one of my threads. It seems my first and main city has pretty well capped at around 80,000 Sims. I'll get your MOD now. -

Is that any better, gridlock? I sized it to 800x600. What plugins am I missing? I'm not aware of any. I got the NAM update already. Bravo, my zones are not growing very much. But I'm up to 83000 Sims now. Hardly making any money, though. I've got most of my taxes at 10%, lots of complaints about that. Like I said, the city has capped. I got rid of a landmark, the subway, and the airport. Trying to get by instead of losing money. Would you guys have more separation between the zones? The water is still an issue, pumps and water towers are all pretty much at 100% capacity. Fires breaking out. I'm so tired of it, I've begun bulldozing the buildings that have no water.

Here's an image I uploaded from Photobucket. A bird's eye view of the city.

My city Dunmovin now has about 76000 inhabitants. I have about $120,000 in the treasury, and I'm making money. Where do I go from here? I want to build a metropolis, but some of my areas aren't developing well. I have them watered and powered, but I seem to have reached a plateau. Some of my Sims say the commute to work is long, even though I have a new industrial sector not far from them. I also have plenty of bus stations around them. To revitalize an old area, what would you do? I rezoned the old industrial sector that I had when I first started out. But when it rebuilt, it didn't seem to improve. Do water pipes need to be replaced after a given time? Any hints on installing a good water system? I have pumps, water treatment plants, and it all looks blue underground. When I fly a copter mission and reach the target, nothing happens. I can't pick up the little girl for the heart transplant, even though I hover over her building. What do you have to do to pick her up? I've just put in a ferry. Do the stations have to be in a certain position to each other? Any hints on a good ferry system? It sure is handy to have this forum.

(The neighbor sale would just increase demand, and thus, make this happen at a higher supply.)quote> Some of my pumps are running at capacity, as much as they can. Would that be due to the neighbor sales? Speaking of which, I have a neighbor city that wants to buy more water. When I check the deal, it only lets me sell them 2000 cubic meters a month. They're always asking for more. Why can't I increase my capacity to 3000 or 4000 in order to sell them some? Another question: I'm beginning to get some crime in my subway stations. How can that be prevented? I realize I need to build more stations, I've only got a few spaced far between each other.

The pipes have a certain lateral coverage area, right? So why do the red spots appear? Is it because the pumps are aging? Do I have to run still another pipe across that small red area? Is it because I'm selling water to other cities? post some pictures of your city - it would help me see what the problem is. I think your problem can be resolved by making sure health and education are both well taken care of and commute times are low.quote> To post a picture here, do I have to upload them to the Net somewhere, then put the link here? Or can I post a screenshot here directly from my hard drive? One of my problems, Dan, is Sims vacating houses because they have no job. The reason they have no job is because of the long commutes. I don't know how to fix this. They were living next to a commercial zone, and an industrial zone was not far away, either.

I have three other cities in surrounding blocks of the region. I'm selling water and garbage services to all of them, making as much money from that as I can. But that's not a lot. Should I develop cities in ALL the surrounding blocks to my city? I've put in fire stations that pretty well blanket Dunmovin, so I don't have as many fires now. I think the water system is pretty much okay, too. When I see isolated red spots, I usually install a pump nearby. I've used all my rewards, they're in place. What would you eliminate? I put the landmark Lincoln Center downtown. I guess I could delete that. I have lots of bus stations. I'm checking the route query to see which ones are hardly being used. Those I delete to save a little money. I'll work on the surrounding cities for a while, see what happens. I've done N_O_Body's Omnibus tutorial about the farmland.

Help me, N O Body. Now I'm losing money. I don't want to raise taxes too much, that makes the RCI bars go under. I've read a lot of things over in the Omnibus, took some notes. I can't figure out what's wrong.

Yes, samuelzrp, it's working now. I figured it out. Thanks.

Starting up a minimal city
lorenzo48 replied to A Nonny Moose's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
Switch the mayor's view to My Sims and turn off the UDI options. You don't need UDI stuff interfering with you just now. Now return to mayor view.quote> How do you do that, N_O_Body? I can't find My Sims. You're not referring to the individual Sims you can place in your city, are you? The little people button? -
Starting up a minimal city
lorenzo48 replied to A Nonny Moose's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
Thanks a lot, N O Body. This is good. I'm just now getting into the game, have built three cities. I'm using some tutorials and have downloaded some modds. My biggest city is in the black, with about 700 Sims in it. I printed this out, so I'll go try it. I surely enjoy this community interaction. -
Thanks, I appreciate the answers.
