Flight to Koh Railay
frdrcklim commented on Sky Guy's City Journal Entry in The Sultanate of Bangorai' (AIN)
Great updates man. (I loved the one on page 7 =D). Sorry I haven't been posting lately. I'm not particularly fond of the new STEX interface. It's really difficult to get around the simtrop forums the past few months. With the search function down, it's even harder. I wonder how you get around =)? -
The CitiesXL Plan - why not to dis Monte Cristo
frdrcklim replied to landstander248's topic in Cities XXL
I gotta say. landstander has a point. MC must be given the benefit of the doubt. -
Originally posted by: zwr100 The monthly fee will pay for the things you think 'should be in the game.' Don't want to pay? Go play that other new city builder, or that other online city builder.... oh wait there are none. I can do math too. $160.99/year = $0.44 a day. Eat one less candy bar a day, or one less soda or coffee, or maybe skip one $3 purchase a week (is it really that hard?). If you spend nothing, and have no costs to cut, then go to a parking lot or couch and pick up some spare change. Most MMOs are online or nothing. Look at it as an MMO and be glad it has an offline version at all. They made a bold move by making an online builder, it was neccessary in my opinion. The best thing about SC4 is the online community that keeps fresh new content. The worst thing about SC4 is all the custom content/mods/whatever completely bend and break the rules so there basically is no game - it's more like painting a picture than playing a game. If they made it totally moddable like SC4 it would be the same exact game.quote> $0.44 = 20~ PHP. I think I'll pass and buy me a lottery ticket. The returns are bigger especially if you win. But seriously, you can do a lot of stuff with $160.99 already. Why waste it on subscription? You can get L4D2, MW2 and OFP2, games I'm sure to buy. You can buy an Intel E7500 C2D or even an NVIDIA GTS 250. It's also 10~% of the ASUS N81VP-D1, an awesome laptop I'm trying to get. Wouldn't you rather spend that money on big ticket items? To be honest, I'm really against MMOs of all type and MMOs and City Building games just don't mixed. In fact, back in the day, I remember MC was somehow targeting the SC4 crowd especially with the disappointment that is SCS. We all remember this certain little screenshot back then when CXL was just CU. The picture had no hint of an MMO as you can see and the eyecandies a city-builder gamer could ever want is in this picture. This picture was also the reasons for our very high expectations of the game, though I have to admit it was too good to be true. I do agree that SC4 is becoming a bit too complex and that the game is not what it used to be. I have to admit, even I had a hard time trying to get back into it. But I still have those dreams at the back of my head of creating a city that I really planned and these custom content is what keeps me glued to SC4.

I think it's fairly reasonable that you need a 8800GT to see this game in max detail. I think it's fairly obvious. SC4 had a somewhat 2-D to 3-D engine so the graphics are less demanding. I think the problem why people are a bit upset is because of the jump they have to make. Hua10 is right though. Graphics cards now are on the cheap. A 9800 GT for $100~, a GTX 260 for $180~

How to decrease Industry Pollution
frdrcklim replied to ryanhamaty's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
When it comes to typical industrial buildings, normally trees are enough. True increase education to get high tech industries is actually the ideal goal. But I'd like to keep a mix of I-M and I-HT. Things change when you have say a CAM industrial building. There was one building which had 12000 I-M jobs. Took 6 air purification plants and 3-4 Water treatment plants. Big sacrifices there, but heh, the money is good. Now I dun think trees can save you in that scenario. -
What is an "acceptable" crime rate?
frdrcklim replied to jmusacha's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
Also, if you somehow want to hold your plans in building a jail, you can increase the funding of your police department. Increased funding usually helps, but keeping it at 100% funding is alright. Problem can arise when you decrease the budget. Better yet, you can acquire a federal prison, a business deal which you can acquire when you are in financial turmoil or by UDI or U-Drive-It. Originally posted by: jmusacha I notice that most of my cities with a reasonable police coverage have a rate (on the graph) between 15 and 25. My news-ticker (advisors) does not seem to correlate to crime rate since I've gotten complaints about "oppression" with a crime rate of 20 and riots in cities with virtually no crime (with the understanding that the riot is a function of general unhappiness and not necessarily of crime.) In another city (one which never has had a police force) I have a crime rate of 70 but the sims aren't complaining too much. Most of them live in high density R$ "project" style housing and the education system is relatively new. In another (large) city I had a crime rate of over 100, but I do think the sims were complaining then. quote> You know, I've tried to make a riot in my city. I reduced the budget to zero and destroyed all my police bldgs. Despite being this contrary to what I said, I've never had a riot. -
What are some of your best city names?
frdrcklim replied to scifanata's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
Best city name I had was Holiday Islands. -
Did the forums at CXL really disappear? I've been trying to look for it. Things are a bit confusing lately. I can't seem to login my old CXL account. I then make a new account and can't seem to login either. Wow, from all the feedback I'm getting, looks like I'm on wait and see mode. My plug-in folder has really been a mess lately. Thought CXL would lighten up the feeling. And no, I am not paying 72 USD a year. I can already buy Modern Warfare 2 and Left 4 Dead 2 with that money, including the 40 USD hard-copy or better yet, a decent performing graphics card. They have to consider, especially in a time of economic downturn, that some people (especially kids) cannot afford to pay for a subscription.

Is it me? I think the STEX search bar is broken again. I'm getting the Cold Fusion error again just like before. Tried it both on IE8 and Firefox 3. -
I think the custom resolutions will work depending on the properties of your monitor. Also, did you mean custom as in window mode, cuz all you need to do is change -r####x####x32 -f to -r####x####x32 -w. Honestly, I don't see a reason to go custom resolution on full screen. If you want full screen, just stick to the native resolution .

Evil Weasel, this is a great idea. I've been trying to make a midsize city and what better way than to get ideas here .

That did it Dirk . The STEX search bar seems to be working properly now. I was able to find and identify the old lot from the STEX that I lost in my plugin folder. -

Wow. Update 2 is even better. Love your commercial establishment sitting perfectly. It really gives an Asian feel to it.

Originally posted by: haljackey Oh yes, I've played all the C&Cs. My favorite has to be Red Alert. That was top of the line, mind-blowing graphics back in the day. So much fun even to this day. The missions were awesome, and it was the first of the series to feature Skirmish play and a map editor. In fact, they've all been good. Generals (and Zero Hour) moved the series into a new direction but still kept it fun. The only real disappointing game for me was Red Alert 3 as it was too wacky and, had a storyline that was just too crazy for me. I've also played other RTS games, like Starcraft and Dune. I can't wait for Starcraft II to come out! As for the best game ever, I'd agree that its the best RTS out there but not the best overall. One of the best yes, but not THE best. You just can't compare it to games like Zelda: Orcerena of Time or Grand Theft Auto IV. These games are in a class of their own. quote> Those were the days. I still consider Red Alert as one of the best also for introducing me to RTS games. And yes, the storyline of RA3, they totally screwed it. No nukes without Einstein, come on, other people would've invented it either way. And Einstein's disappearance means he didn't kill Hitler which means the World War with Germany should've continued on and not some crazy enemy like the Japanese. The units feel like circus material and the only units I thought were credible were some infantry units like the conscript and the peacekeeper.

Nice start. Totally love the floating market. And your region view is just stunning

Ahhh! I hate to say it, but you vandalized Vietnam :P Glad u decided to start over again. It seems like a rather good idea to me. -
OMG, I knew it. I just had something similar Lol, I don't even live in Quezon, Nueva Ecija, Philippines on the fact that this place doesn't exist. Quezon and Nueva Ecija are two different provinces in my country. At first, I was like shocked, and I liked oh s**t, i need to explain myself. After a while of panicking, I thought, wait a minute, it's April Fools. LOL. Fell for it .
