So how many carbon credits were needed for this concert? "Har har 1 cent of every dollar will be sent to buy carbon credits to counteract the sheer mess we make, the rest lines our pockets"

I disagree with the new wonders list. The Taj Mahal and the Christ the Redeemer statue, albeit amazing and beautiful, are not Wonders as I see them. Of course I would LOVE to see all the Wonders from the old list, however six were lost in the wake of history, and sadly will never return. However the original list was narrow minded to the area in which the Greeks knew, which is fair, but the man made Wonders of Asia and the Americas were left off the list, and we will never know what these societies have really made if their impressive accomplishments did not survive. I find that saddening, but at least we have historical records of the Colossus and the Great Lighthouse for us to remember.

The unofficial Illegal Imigration Discussion forum
commanderkai replied to Mayor Abe's topic in Current Events
Well I think the poll is loaded as hell but give me a break. My family worked their asses off to come to the US recently and we don't get no path to citizenship. We'd have to go through all the hoops and loops to even have a chance. I don't care for legal immigration, but everybody should wait their turn in line. It's that simple. I don't care where they are from. It's completely insulting and degrading for these "immigrants" to get a free pass AND then be able to get a nice free citizenship push. You deport them or send them back of the line for legal immigrants. Criminals are criminals. I don't care if somebody broke into my house to steal food because they are starving or poor, I'll still want them in jail. There are LAWS for a reason. And those who break it shouldn't get a free pass just because people break it in droves. -

I think it was an idiotic marketing ploy, but I don't see what's the issue. If cocaine addicts were buying it thinking it was cocaine let them. Who cares?

Worst City Planning
commanderkai replied to LivingInThePast's topic in Architecture & Urban Planning
Toronto is probably the worst city outside of Los Angeles for road planning. And the subway system sucks as well. They really should extend it towards the East, though they do have the GO trains which help a bit -
Well, I took a quick picture and got this. It happens for both avenue overpasses with the elevated and ground highways. Maybe some of you geniuses can help me here because I'm out of ideas. What are those green marks?

How so? I can understand the coal plants with the massive amounts of pollution they make but after the construction phase of a hydroelectric plant, who gets killed? Not saying you're wrong I'm just wondering Oh and I agree that hippies aka enviromentalists are really hypocritical on energy production. They complain about needing cleaner power plants but whine about nuclear power, which is extremely safe.

Originally posted by: N_O_Body Originally posted by: commanderkai Of course we would have a Head of State, why not elect him or her? Why should the British Monarchy have any play in Canada anymore? The Governor General is undemocratic, just like the Canadian Senate. And as much as you might not like the American Federal System, it is a democratically elected figure. You wonder why Quebec wants to be independent. One of the major factors is that Canada still holding on to the long dead British Empire. If you really believe that it would be too top heavy without a Governor General, have that GG democratically elected, and make Canada more representive of Canada and not just the Queen. You said the sun has set for my statement, the sun also has set for the British Empire, and it won't ever rise for her again.quote> And if you believe that, I have this tract of land up north of Moosonee that you should get in on the ground floor with. Maybe you would find it a good investment for your retirement savings.quote> Believe what? That the Senate is undemocratic? Hmm....a political body that controls a part of the law making process that has no real accountability and most members in it are just there for being good members to whatever political party they were loyal to. Or that the Governor General is undemocratic? So an official that has control over when we have elections, and can refuse if he or she so wants to the elected official known as the Prime Minister. A person who can waste millions on "foreign policy trips" which really were nothing more with taxpayers money being flushed down the toilet? That the American head of state is an elected official? That the British Empire will not rise again? I do believe all those things, and I am glad I do. You sir, respectively, are probably alot older than me, considering that sentence in your sig. I would make a guess that you're British due to your statement that I am un-Canadian at expressing my opinion, and that my disagreement with government makes me unpatriotic. I do not know your history, if you want to inform me I'm sure you have interesting stories to tell me. However, you do not know me either. All you know is that I'm young, I'm living in the United States, I am half French Canadian and half Italian Canada, and that I am a Canadian citizen. I am a part of the younger generation. I am not a representive of all of them, but Canada has moved past from being a British colony. Many of those school children who went to Vimy Ridge Rededecation, at least those I know, did not go there because they are British and they did it out of colonial pride, they did it to honor Canadian soldiers who were victorious in a Canadian victory. Many of those children probably do not have British backgrounds, I bet many are Italian or Polish or Russian or German or Indian or Chinese or the great many other cultures who have settled in Canada. This is my opinion, this is what I believe. If it is right or wrong in your eyes, it doesn't matter to me, since that doesn't change the fact that it is an opinion. I have seen the British Royality do many stupid things, including the most recent of which Prince Harry went to a party dressed as a Nazi. Queen Elizabeth II has been a great queen, but her reign will end sooner or later. Somebody will take her place, will they represent everyone like how this queen did, or will they have the short sightness and stupidity of Mr. Harry?

Well, I guess heroes are born in times of great tragedy. Here's one of them, at least I think so anyway. http://www.israelnationalnews.com/News/News.aspx/122137 Among the 32 people killed by a lone gunman at Virginia Tech Monday is 77-year-old engineering professor, Liviu Librescu, a citizen of Israel. According to eyewitness accounts, Librescu ran to the door of his classroom and blocked it with his body – preventing the gunman from entering but getting shot to death himself as a result. Alec Calhoun, a 20-year-old student who had been in Librescu's class in room 204, told a reporter that at 9:05 a.m. the heard screams and a loud banging sound from the next-door classroom. When the students realized it was gunfire, he said, some hid behind tables, and others leapt from the classroom's windows. Calhoun himself was among the last to jump. "Before I jumped from the window, I turned around and looked at the professor, who stayed behind, maybe to block the door. He had been killed."quote> I think that any debates that come from this event should become a new topic. Heck I'm guilty of debating issues in this topic. I think that professor turned hero is a good example how the best of human nature is seen in the worst of human tragedies

The Official Global Warming/Climate Change Thread
commanderkai replied to Micah's topic in Current Events
I think it is happening, but absolutely nowhere near the level that the media is advertising. Climatolgists (forgive the spelling) need funding and I think using media hype gives them more funds to do whatever they like with since there is more public outcry to do more. Remember that 30 years ago these same scientists said that Earth was approaching the next Ice Age in the next 30-100 years, it didn't happen. -
This entire thing is a big joke. White guy says something stupid, which is common for his job. Black women basketball team gets offended Media hype begins Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton (of course) jumps on bandwagon and starts yelling "Racism! This man is this that this that it's bad blah blah blah blah blah" White guy makes an apology which seemed sincere White guy gets fired Black rappers say worse things in a large number of their songs and yet it's okay because of *insert something here*

I honestly, in respects with American Idol, or any other Idol anywhere else, hate the show. I really don't see the real value of it. Then again I never had the dream of being a singer, so maybe it's just my opinion that this is just as stupid as all the "reality" TV ideas.
