  1. Cities over 100k

Waste to Energy Plant Now that my population is really high (to me that is) I noticed that my Waste to Energy Plant isn't enough, so I made a recycling center. Still not enough! So I had to create another Waste to energy plant! Power Supply Then my power supply is DWINDLELING! I have 4 Gas powerplants, and 2 solar! Is there another way? Isn't that a waste? Fire Stations What about fire stations? I have one (the small one) Do I need more to relieve more demand cap? Hospitals I have 3 large hospitals in 2 blocks for the ammount of people I have, in addition to clinics and disease research center. And I still need more! All of this is crazy! Is this why everyone on ST has tons of downloads to handle large city demand? Why didn't Maxis create lots that can handle the demand? Anything I should be on look out for? This is all a new world seriously!
  2. FYI: The first time my region pop actually broke 100k and I am at 257k!!!! The NAM rocks! I cannot believe it, my cities are HUGE! (ok not that big but you konw what i am saying) I have one medium tile maybe 60% full with about 125k in it! and a 4k income!!! WOO WOO Anyhow, Now that my cites are big, and my downloaded trainstations have about 12k people going through them, I decided to add some monorail (which I planned for) So I got to the point where I hit an elevated highway, and I don't like that default bridge that monorail turns into. SO I decided to try the Hole Diggen Lots for monorail. Didn't work. So I searched the forum. Followed step by step what the forum says here. Still didn't work. Now, I ask, is the default "create your own region"'s elevation to low to sea level, to build monorail tunnels? Or do I need to raise elevation? If so, screw the tunnels, now my geometrical city won't be so geometrical. GRRR but you'll have that right? And just curious, I have a center city, where all Co$$$ and Cs$$$ is and some R$$$, and some IH. Will all "forms of life" Travel and have intercity commute if I use heavy rail? Or should I switch to EL. I do have monorail moving through, and when needed I will add subways. Whatcha all think? Thank you,

Watch this one, if it gets too old or catches fire you will lose your game in the meltdown.quote> Really? Well my pop is alot more than that, and I am positive my power demand is more than that too. I wonder why i do not have it then? What do most people use when it comes to power plants?

  5. Well before I had Road Top Mass Transit, I used to do something like this: r = residential R = Road B = bus/subway m = pedestrian mall (found on STEX downloading the NAM) p = plaza/grass/ andy 1x1 lot found in the "tree" menu r R B R r r R m R r r R p R r r R p R r r R p R r r R p R r Then if I had a "gift" I would just surround it what I thin would look nice. IE g = grass LP = Large Park LF = Large Flower Garden g g g g g g g g g g Courthouse g g LP LF LP g if you are like me you like symetrical outlines...so that is what I do I "mirror" everything so it looks symetrical. You can all find Beutification packs with "trails" and "statues" and "ponds" on the STEX which just makes things awesome!

Have you been replacing old power plants? Over time, they get old, and then they produce less power for MORE money! Same with water.quote> Yes actually. All my power plants are brand new. (seriously and I will need another one soon) I think I need a neighborhood deal to get the nuclear plant right? My water plants.....hmmm I didn't think about that one. Maybe I will destroy all those towers and build a few only of the largest pumping stations....that may save some more money. I like that. (my budget sets me at about 3k income)
  7. Monorail Tunnels & Other Stuff

Yeah, I know that. I did not want to use ground level highway; I'd rather have a tunnelled (if that is a word) monorail.
  8. Airports

Do airports work in adjacent cities? If so they do not relieve demand caps for other cities do they? Thank you
  9. I want the Landmarks with jobs, but I heard you NEED the Opera House fix in order to have a large city with high education. But you cannot run these two mods together. So why one over the other?
  10. Number of individual tiles

Does anyone know the exact number of tiles in a Large Tile city? I need to know the ammount of tiles accross and from top to bottom. I decided to create my transportation netword first, and this would help my calculations if I had this data. Thank you,

Right now, I am playing with some new "things" from STEX and I am growing my city from Industrial shore line and then to AG then to R$$ and slowly moving toward my center city. I want to have a good base of of people who will continue to grow and learn then move closer to the center city. For my subburbs I am just playing around with some curvier roads, and diagonals etc. I am trying to be more creative with them, more "real" I guess. My DT will be very much Griddy. I haven't decided if I am going to use Monorail for big City commute or for inner city commute. My goal is to grow into a large city instead of the other way around.
  12. But I did not find what i was looking for. When I installed the NAM you come accross alot of options on what plugins to install. (ie perfect pathfinding, Radical, 2x roads etc) I didn't know what to install, so I installed the Radical - since I thought it was the best. My question is what is it compared to perfect pathfinding? Is it a cheat? I couldn't find a "good" explanation In addition, i do not want to cheat but to "enhance" therefore, if I want to uninstall and re-install the NAM with the perfect pathfinding (since that is the ONLY one people talk about) can I just delete from those files from my pluggins and then just re-install the NAM like normal? Thank you!
  13. NAM and Radical Pathfinding

i don't consider it cheating I think SimCity has Commute times REALLY out of wack! Anyhow, I may consider Radical to be cheating. has/does anyone use this?
  14. Number of individual tiles

Sorry if that is confusing, I have it all on paper drawn out but I can't do that here [shurgs]
  15. Number of individual tiles

actually I do not want a "griddy" system. I am looking so I can use Geometric Shapes and have all sides/corners etc equal. I figured if I used geo metric shapes for let us say a highway then used different shapes for avenue, and monorail - then overlapping those shapes they will produce the best transportation. IE: Highway - an octagon in the center of the largest tile surrounding the center of DT then on the horizontal/veritcal sides2 highways leading out of each Avenues - t-sectionned out of the diagonal sides of the octagon and cutting through twice on the horizontal/vertical sides leading to a square in the heart of the city - these are merging from the same highways on the horizontal/vertical sides using the NAM Monorail - figure 8'd on both left and right sides of the city and cutting through the heart of the city I haven't figured in GLR but I will probably only use Subways in my center city along with lots of bus stops. Basically I want this all "Geometrically Square" or "geometrically Perfect" Then as I work out of the inner city and build into the R parts of the surrounding inner city, I will begin to let loose from Geometry and start to add curves and such.
  16. Number of individual tiles

Thank you all! You rock! Now I just need to do the math!
  17. Why do universities, glof courses, major league stadiums come with crime, and will NOT go away no matter what? One thing I am very strong about is my education, I make sure it stays above 180 at all times. So what is the deal? Secondly, Why do some cities posted on here, actually have both streets and roads? I do have the NAM and when my population reaches appartment levels, I cannot use streets, I have to use roads or the congestion is just crazy. And yes I do have bus stops on every corner (6-8 tiles) Thank you!
  18. Why do rewards come with crime?

Yeah, it really doesn't matter how many police stations I bulid, I can/have tried to put one on every corner of the university (etc) to just see it's affect....and well, nothing the crime just stays were it is at.
  19. Ok so I have been using the NAM for about 3 weeks now and I have some questions. GLR Why use GLR when you can just use EL? Is there really a difference? Isit faster? Why doesn't GLR have city connections? Do you really have to drop every individual rail? Is there a way to drag and drop like other transportation? Maybe I just don't get the hole GLR "thing" but it sure take a LONG time to use/set up. ROADS I was once told not to use avenues but use One way roads (2 opposite with GLR or EL down the middle) Does this really make a difference? (Capacity/air polution wise) DIGGIN HOLES I saw this on STEX, is this how you get underground roads/highways?? If so, is it hard to use? GRAPHS I read alot of things about information concerning R and it took a while but I stumbled accross someone who said they use some kind of Plug-IN concerning graphs? - Which give them added information the game doesn't deliever? Is this true and what is this "Plug-In' called? Alot of people use "Plug Ins" but I am unaware of what these are and how they work? Can anyone give me some advice? PLOPPABLES How well does the "Landmarks with jobs" Mod work? I have heard it has some major glitches. PED MALLS Can these be used like roads? or are they simply for looks? Any advice on anything one can use to edify the gameplay (that is not a cheat like a the money tree) would be great. Thank you and have a great day!
  20. Do I really need these?

When it comes to the workings in my city I have a couple of planning questions: FIRE STATIONS Do I really need these? I have maybe one in each city, and never have a fire. Does it relieve demand caps? or do anything for growth? Does it truely make people not want to live there because there is only one Fire Station? MUSEUMS/LIBRARIES Do I still need them when I have the Main library and Opera house? POLLUTION My cities have grow to huge sky scraper potentional, and now I have heavy pollution my roads/avenues. I have the ordinences enacted.Do I need to start putting two one way roads instead of avenues then put trees down the middle? I can't really find another way to drop the city pollution? I have subways and trains too. What else can I do? Is there anything else I can rid of after some gifts have been recieved? Thank you all so much!

  23. Question about transportation

Thank you so much for such a helpful reply!!!!!!!!! That forum is great all I need thank you so much! But I did want to know about: PLOPPABLES How well does the "Landmarks with jobs" Mod work? 24. MODS?

So I have been playing this game for a long time now. And it just seems that inorder to get massive growth you need Mods! I fee like this is cheating though. For instance, my IH is absolutly crazy, all my cites CRAVE IH! What is up with that? It seems like in order to build more R you need the Industrial Quadrupaler? So my question is, what mods does one need? I use ths NAM, but it is ok not THAT special, but nice. I don't see that as a Cheat as much as I see it as more "realistic" or "fun". Any ideas? I have read ALOT of lots/mods/etc and they are nice, but just some are crazy? Should I get that MOD where the landmarks have jobs? Because, I see them as a waste of space if they dont' have jobs? I just would like to have your input. What MODS do you use? What LOTS? etc.
  25. MODS?

Most forums (that I have been through) Do not like one long questionable thread. Just like in SS.com those threads/topics do not get answered. b/c people do not want to read a long line of questions. In addition, this way each topic/thread can stay on topic and not be "bouncing" from subject to subject, but stay on task. Lastly, I am sorry but I am new to this forum, and I apologize for "flooding". Thank you for your help.
