  1. My water supply city has plenty of water for everyone (I only have like 6-7 cities in this region so far). All the pipes are connected to the neighbors. All the pumps are watered. Yet for some bizarre reason, ever since I planted the last high-efficiency pump, this city keeps cutting the water deals to its neighbors. Stranger still, it doesn't do them all at once, but like one or two per month, until all four of its neighbors (and thus everyone else) receive no water. Needless to say, this has ruined the water city's balance sheet and made the other cities effectively unplayable. Usually when I go to the neighborhood cities, I can restore the water connection and everything is normal. It's just the water city that screws up. And remember, nothing was wrong until this new pump came in (I had several before it and they worked fine). So I tried blowing up this new plant and building another one, but I have the same thing happen. And leaving it unbuilt is simply not an option, as all the nearby cities depend on this one for water. What in the world is going on here?? (I posted this in another forum but have realized that it may well not be a bug...anyway.)
  2. Something strange is in the water.

I think it finally corrected itself. Yet another blow-it-up-and-build-another-pump attempt seems to have taken care of things. The "bad" pump was on the elevated terrain immediately adjacent to an avenue's elevated girder bridge. I wonder if this had something to do with the problem.
  3. Something strange is in the water.

Pollution isn't it, as all the pumps are running. And there is a surplus of water, even with all deals active.
  4. Really annoying zoning issue

What thing and astro said. Also, you may have better luck if you place the streets or roads before adding the zones.
  5. Why do Airports have such high crime?

Is there a mod that removes this three-tile restriction without directly affecting the city's overall crime level?
  6. Water Main Break

Wow. Good reason not to cut water funding, I guess.
  7. Highway labels

See title. Why is that? Is there a mod somewhere that allows you to label highways just like you do your roads?
  8. I've started a new region, and so far I have this: BB ABB CDD EDD A = Residential city with tax breaks for $$$ B = Mostly commercial city C = Farm city D = Hybrid city: Largely residential, plus some commercial and high-tech E = Waste & power city, with primarily dirty industry Here's my dilemma: For whatever reason, CO$$$ demand went down, and now I've got abandoned offices all over cities B and D, which is causing unemployment in A and D. Is it as simple as lowering their commercial taxes, or should I think about starting a new city with emphasis on high-tech industry?
  9. A dilemma regarding CO$$$.

Interesting. I've been building this region slowly, so that once I get to the bigger cities in the middle, they'll have the support of these cities already there. I put a crude, letter-coded diagram in the OP; see if that helps.

Some resorted to walking across the city border, but the rest just hunkered down and stayed home. This despite the fact that they could have easily taken other routes. I wonder if their decision was a NAM thing, which I have? But again, the ultimate source of the problem was a bad intersection. Once I fixed that, it fixed the unemployment problem.
  11. A dilemma regarding CO$$$.

I got it fixed! But not by the method I thought. Starting a high-tech city did little, but unclogging a mess in city A did (see OP). The problem was some sort of glitch with the way I laid down a pair of one-way roads. One of its intersections for some reason didn't let traffic through like it looked like it should, and being stubborn like they are, the sims wanted no other way to go to work. I fixed that, and all the "no job" zots dropped like flies, which spurred CO$$$ demand in the next-door commercial city! In city D the ending was not as happy, but since it has a lot less commercial, I just bulldozed the rows of abandoned CO$$$. Mostly CS took their place, which is not as nice, but anything is nicer than abandoned buildings.

Get your zones back in balance and the problem will take care of itself.quote> I have a hunch that this is the problem. Which means it's time to do what I suspected all along: Expand some more, with emphasis on high-tech.
  13. Crime at airports

  14. Crime at airports

It's just annoying and unrealistic. IRL, airports aren't hotbeds for crime; rough neighborhoods are.
  15. What's your take on the Prima Strategy guide? Is it worth the purchase?
  16. Crime at airports

Bump. Is there a mod to fix this? Also I have problem with crime on golf courses, presumably because of their size, although rarely as bad as the airport.
  17. I just started an all-commercial city, but its land values are in the tank. Question, do I need to get some residental + school and hospital in there to help this?
  18. Commercial city fail?

I fixed the problem! With an old solution: Schools and hospitals. Just putting commercial within their coverage areas jacks up the land values.
  19. Trouble with RTMT

Hello, I just installed the NAM Simulator Z, and it works fine. But when I tried to install the RTMT, the game will not load. I tried installing RTMT patch 3.51, but the same thing occurred. Please advise.
  20. Trouble with RTMT

Ah, crap, would be nice though. Oh well, the other 99% of RTMT rocks!
  21. Trouble with RTMT

Originally posted by: z1 That makes sense, especially since your more detailed description made me remember doing the exact same thing with the same results. Otherwise, saving the game and reloading it has the same effect. quote> So for all intents and purposes, there isn't a fix for this yet?
  22. Trouble with RTMT

It works! Not sure what I did wrong last time, but I'm up and running now. Only glitch is, in U-drive-it missions, cars have trouble driving over an in-avenue subway station. For roads and streets the car is simply forced down the middle--like a toll booth or a bridge--but if I'm not perfectly parallel to the lane when entering the avenue-subway tile, it's like hitting a brick wall. Does the 3.6 patch fix this?
  23. Trouble with RTMT

Version 3.5. One possible problem, it asks me which version of NAM I have (2x capacity, 5x capacity, etc.). I'm running Simulator Z and don't know which of the options would be the best fit. I also do not know which of the three Setup files to run: PropFamilies, SingleProps, or 350. Would that decision make a difference? BTW, I installed it earlier and the game worked, but the subway+bus on avenue tile did not work, so I reinstalled with different options. Since that second reinstall, the game won't even startup with RTMT. And when I uninstall RTMT (but not NAM), the game runs fine.
  24. Hmm, not even seaports. Is there a mod out there somewhere that adds this capability to ferries?
  25. NAM General Discussion Thread

Question. I have installed the NAM, and I do see the additional road/rail/etc. pieces in the game. But where is the dialog that allows me to adjust road capacities, etc?
