The US's most pathetic highways
Deathamphetimine replied to Duke87's topic in Architecture & Urban Planning
Thank god someone said I-4. It's a mess of construction while serving 7 million+ residents of Centeral Florida (Tampa metro; Orlando metro; and Daytona/Volusia County) plus countless tourists. Ive been sitting still between Altamonte Springs and Colonial Dr at 11:30 pm on a Tuesday before. Plus it's the only non-toll freeway in Orlando, the OOCEA has some great Expressways, but if your outta change, your outta luck. Now, I-4 is by no means pathetic. What is pathetic is I-175 and I-375 in St. Peatersburg. they are two downtown spurs about 1 mile from eachother and serve no purpose other than carrying the tiny nomber of Rays fans to Tropicana Field and as a quick (because there always EMPTY) way out of downtown St Pete. they both run for about 2 1/2 miles off of I-275 and dead-end into 4th St S. They have one mainline exit each, if thats not pathetic, I don't know what is. -

Man, hope you went to St. Joseph or TGH, University Hospital has a tendency to operate on the healthy parts of your body. Hope u feel better after all that. Appendicitis sucks hard, I had that when I was 13. NOT fun. The parking garage/street shops are looking good though. can't wait for the skybridge linking these 2 masterpices of Tampa's downtown. I downloaded the BAT recently, but havn't had any time too start my project idea, Park tower. Tampa's first and most simple skyscraper. Stupid real life. Feel better soon yo. -
The Top 10 Most Livable Cities
Deathamphetimine replied to Haljackey's topic in Architecture & Urban Planning
I agree with countryhawk, why is Portland not on the list? My uncle lives in Beaverton just outside of Portland, and the city is magnificent. I can see why Seattle didn't make the list with Pierce County also being named the "meth capital of the US" or Denver with ....well, never been to Denver, so I can't say any positive of negative aspects, but my mother was born there, and I have heard both good and bad. I live in the "south," so I understand why cities like Atlanta, Miami, or Tampa didn't make the list, all southern US cities just suck. Sprawl and crime with little or no public transportation define this region. But kudos to our Canadian brothers for knowing how to build a quality city, eh. -
Wow, you just described almost the whole town of Wesley Chapel, FL. I usually just lay out streets and roundabouts with lots of greenspace between developed spaces and use one of Simgoobers public pools next to a park or playground, like most master-planned communities in Florida that aren't built around a golf course. This works out because maxis only has like 4 or 5 different single-family homes, like the developers of these neighborhoods only have like 4 or 5 different models. I must show some in-game pics of my recreation of Country Walk, a very simple sub-division here in W.C. Sorry, im rambling because I know these communities very well.

I know this should be in the request thread, but teemu_om is so talented that Raymond James in Tampa would be a cinch. I don't have the gift of such BAT craftsmanship so I can't really say how difficult it would be, but everyone wants stadiums from "up north," we southerners have some good stadiums too. sorry, im off my soapbox now. Excellent work nonetheless.

I must agree that the roof is a tad unrealistic. Like most commercial buildings, the roof should be a flat tar roof with some HVAC units. Other than that, the building itself looks great. Although the building sign is a little big, the pole sign is perfect for those cities without signage ordinances.

Like most of you, I use a straight grid downtown at either 4x4, 4x6, or 6x6. Expanding beyond the areas built before 1950's, I continue the grid with about a square quarter mile between avenues with windey dead-end streets in those blocks, similer to older suburban neighborhoods from circa 1970, like Albuquerque or Phoenix. Im also a fan of having numerous freeways, almost in a grid like Arlington, Texas, but they always seem form a spoke and wheel concept like that of .....well, every major city in Texas. For my suburbs after the 1980's, I build master-planned communities with one major avenue with lots of flora and greenspace. The neighborhoods are built in small villages with no more than 2 of 3 streets with lots of nature preserves between the villages, like the sub-divisions of New Tampa and Wesley Chapel (North of Tampa) Florida. I guess I like realism.

What city and/or town in your area needs to "clean up its act"
Deathamphetimine replied to manman99's topic in Architecture & Urban Planning
East Tampa and University West in Tampa are still in shambles despite a new rec center in U/west and numerous new developments in East Tampa. University mall is losing tenents by the day, and will go down in flames when Cypress Creek Town Center is finished. that same senerio was played out in East Tampa during the early 90's. When Brandon Town Center was built and after a New Kids on the Block apperence, East Lake Mall was done for. But closer to my house, Dade City is the oldest and crappiest town in East Pasco County. The Lock St neighborhood is full of crime and drugs more-so than the rest of the city, and as I am typing this, the news is reporting on 2 bodies found in a house over there. It also didn't help that about 4 years ago, the Lykes/Pasco citrus packing house (the largest citrus packing house in the country,) was closed down, cutting about 1,000 jobs. The massive factory just sits empty, with only a few warehouse tenents still remaining. Crime numbers are now comparable to those of Largo, a sub-urban city of over 55,000. Dade City only has about 6,000 people. that says enough. -

BoA looks sharp, as does the Madison Block. I really like the CVS on the ground floor of the 220 Madison Ave building, I was downtown for a job interview at the Franklin Exchange once, and I got there early and spent like an hour entertaining myself at Eckerds, (obviously before it was a CVS.) We really need more downtown/urban chain stores like that on the STEX, like the Mc Donalds and Pizza Huts on Manhattan island. good stuff here. P.S. I didn't get the job
