The Official City Journal Critics Thread Archive
moganite replied to patriots_1228's topic in SC4 City Journals
I remember your first page has a table of contents you may want to add alink to each review as this thread gets larger i thinks there was a thread that was a tutorial to make make a link to specific posts. Looks good so far -
This is going to be the Trouble shooting thread for NHP product initally there will not be much here other than read the instructions but as time goes on there will be more information on dealing with technical issues that come up during gameplay. This will relate directly only to NHP product though some parrallels may be drawn on other content. How to use this thread There are 3 steps to using this thread and resolving technical issues with NHP product 1) Read through this thread and look up the table of contents 2)Re read the instructions in the lot, map, BAT or mod readme files you may of missed something 3) If you still have a problem please inform us of the problem in the technical issues thread. if we have missed something it is important we know so it can be fixed. Table of contents None at present.

What do you think of really large regions??? Would you want one of Oahu?
moganite replied to mkaustin's topic in Mapping Community Room
we do have the ability to go RGB encoded to emulate the 16 bit scale the only problem is converting your DEM data to and image that is encoded. It has been worked for Global mapper 8 but other software will require knowledge of that programs colour scales and letting them be imported. we have the data ready to be exported from excel as long as the format of the files used to import colour scales into your GIS package. Once that format is known it can be done -
you can get good results if you are prepared to experiment the scale is close to an integer multiplier. try using smooth or sharpen on the smaller image. I would also recomend using SCTF to play with the elevations and you can export as a greyscale using it shrink down to the desired size and then re import.

Problems with "NHP Grand Teton National Park" region by Beskhu3epnm
moganite replied to rowanoak's topic in Mapping Community Room
Check the dependency list in the readme files for the snowcapped mods. You will neeed to have ALL of the listed dependancy files and some of these have likely been moved to sc4devotion.com Those dependancy packs will need to also be in your plugins folder. It is a missing texture issue and I would be better if you contacted the authour of the Mods themselves. These are the files you will need. https://www.simtropolis.com/stex/index.cfm?id=13804# It is the terrain mod andshould be compatible with any other terrain mod https://www.sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=17 This one is the snowcapped part that you will need. Also you will need any dependancies that this file has and follow the instructions with the readme. The mods with the grand teton map modify the settings for this mod. Until you actually see it in SC4 these plugins have no effect. Again if you are still having problems you will need to talk to the Authours as that is beyond anything I know about these particular mods. -
Problems with "NHP Grand Teton National Park" region by Beskhu3epnm
moganite replied to rowanoak's topic in Mapping Community Room
Sounds like there could be a conflict between the two terrain mods so try removing one of them and see what happens. Both of those have incompatibilites with other similar mods and it os always in the read me to use them singly. The map itself should be fine wothout the mods as far as i know. -
Trouble is 70 percent of the oil we use is burnt and so is unrecoverable still wont stopp us running out of oils and this should show up in either an engineering or scientific journal for it to be credidable at all.

If you mean water courses on 2 levels it cant be done as far as I am aware you will need to use plopable water tiles for the higher elevation to make the falls look realistic and thats a city only tool.

Well there should be a readme with those files detailing instructions and usage. Also if the modder is worth their salt they will be using descriptive file names like QE2000m.dat rather than mod1.dat, mod2.dat . There is also a certian level of competence that is assumed like you know how to rename, create and delete folders. That idea of a cc browser might be worthwhile as at the moment its up to the end user to keep track of their own files.

The other thing is a lot of countries are still offering dial up but gradually phasing out. Australia still has 70 percent of its internet connections over dial up. even with the hype over wireless etc as anything else is just a rip off. I resize manually without problems and sometimes I resized the image as the page is rendered. now i am more inlinned to link to another window as i am a lot more proficent than I used to be

To add further info jpegs are used for one reason size of file as they are mcuh more compact than just about any other file type. Before SC4TF it was necesscary to render in simcity which used bmp, gif, jpg among a few others for importing. To deal with png files it would be best to use SCTF and import using SCTF. Regions can be any size you wish or even have holes in them. SCTF uses a SC4M files which while they are larger are alot simpler to use.

SC4Terraformer, a tool for regional handterraforming
moganite replied to wouanagaine's topic in SC4 Modding - Open Discussion
While it may be running 9.0 c you will need to have a version that is from april 2006 or later I recomend you update Direct x to the latest one. -
Ok first things first alot of maps have instructions that go with the map detailing how to install it those instructions are proven to work. These instructions are part of the description and in the case of SC4M files they should have a readme file attached. If not there is a set of instructions somewhere instructions for 8 bit maps In anycase i would recomend that you get hold of a copy of SCTF as it will enable faster rendering of a region and modification of the region to suit your tastes. If you use SCTF I still recomend you understand config.bmp files and create your region manually by making the region folder and then adding the config.bmp file. This applies mostly to 8 bit regions but also to any region you wish to create. SC4M files come with the config.bmp file included in the format and that one is used on import to SCTF.

If you as me we are already in the peak years for oil production. Why consider these facts The peak year for oil discoveries was 1963 or 44 years ago. There is no spare oil production capacity as evidence by disasters even small ones causing price spikes; hurricane Katrina, Alaskan oil pipeline. Oil production has not increased since 2002. Oils derived from oilshale and other similar sources like coal require energy and most of that comes from burning either oil gas or coal. Oils from renewable sources will comprimise our ability to grow food or cause extinctions probablt both. Crude oil was a replacement for oils from whales that were not able to meet increasing deamnd in the late 19th century. Oil companies and OPEC nations have inflated thier stated reserves for thier own benifit. Exponentially increasing demand for oil by rapidly industrialising nations such as china and india will suck up all new production and still demand more. 2.5 billion people in those countries could end up consuming 9 times the american (US) consumption before it levels off. What sort of things are we likely to see? Rising prices. Petrol prices in Australia rose by 30 percent in 1 year 2005 -2006, similar trend in all other nations. It has not decreased in cost. All other goods are also dependent on oil to some degree or other and so also increase in price. Wars to secure oil supplies like Iraq which has some of the largest reserves and reserves that havent yet reaked peak production. Resource wars are common; land, people, water, trade minerals. Why must it be dealt with now? What must be avoided at any cost is a sudden rapid rise in the price of oil as it will single handedly cause a reccession that makes the great depression look tiny. It will be too late when oil prices start climbing and not going down. You wont be able to stop the damage to the global economy as it is dependent on cheap oil. What could result is hyperinflation that would render everything worthless overnight. You want to see what hyper inflation can do just look it up. That will be ontop of crippled production capacity in everything. That is why I say we must restructure the global economy away from oil while we still have reasonably cheap supplies before we start running out. The consequences of not doing so dont bear contemplating.

For me there were a couple of little suprises stayed up til 5:30 in the morning reading. I think thi is the best of the boks in the series I read just hope they dont mangle it too much in the movie. There are quite a few things left unsaid and there is always the immediate aftermath and I have a feeling that the batlle at the end was just the begining of something bigger.
