The Official City Journal Critics Thread Archive
raul39 replied to patriots_1228's topic in SC4 City Journals
Hey Patriots! Thanks for the outstanding review! The grid is intentional. No matter how nice one wants a city to be, the grid adds realism, and I want my cities to be eye pleasing, but at the same time to be realistic. The zots... now that is always my bad. I ALWAYS forget to turn them of! But oh well. With the great constructive criticism you guys give, I can make my cj better now. I will try to improve with my new upcoming beach city: Las Palmas. Once again Thanks alot! Keep up the great work that is going on here! -

Hi everyone! WELCOME TO THE BARELY FOUND LAND OF: El Paraiso Before I start, I will list the modds I have downloaded from the stex: NAM; PEG water modd; Columbus terrain texture; slope modd; bridge hieght modd; hole digger lots lotery program ordiance; and probably many more! (i'm 15 and I am already forgetting things, that's not good) Now for the story and pics: In the year 1991, A rather large land mass was found of on the pacific ocean. It was so big, scientists began to wonder why they haven't seen it before. Anyway, it had a beutiful coastline and many mountains, rivers and lakes. In 1992, it was decided to leave the area as a new country and since the explores were mexican american, they decided to call the new country, El Paraiso. For the next update, the first town will show up on the beutiful coast right by those really rugged mountain on the above pic. (it was an accident w/ the erode tool, so my bad) Comments are welcome!

awsome pics in this cj! I like the wide viarity ( I dont think I spelled that right ) of custom content in your cities. Great work!

I've got an idea for school zones. I've seen these in vegas and they really make ppl go slow because of the camera And I've also seen these before. If you can make these, that would be great! Nice work here too!

JDRCRASH: Holy Crap! where did they get 20 billion bucks!? I heard something like that, but I thought it wouldn't happen! BTW, I live on the west and used to live in LA, but I got tired of the problems and TRAFFIC, so I went to the central coast. So, no, east coasters dont influence me. mayorron: I agree with you. Why else would people want to move out to IE or OC? Because it's not as dense. LA isn't even that dense anyway!

Originally posted by: JDRCRASH @J2Dap: Greater NY: Pop. 25,000,000 @GQbouncer:The problem with Los Angeles is that it doesn't have an good Mass Transit system AT ALL. But according to one of my friends who works for the MTA, that could change. He says that the Villaragoisa's vision of the Wilshire Red Line Subway to the Sea could relieve a ton of traffic cuz Wilshire Blvd is one of the busiest major streets in the city. Also the Green Line LAX extension could reduce to the commute for air travelers. And the Gold Line extension into the San Gabriel Valley-which carries some of the worst traffic in the county-, as well as into East L.A. would greatly decrease the traffic on the 5 and 10 freeways There was even a while back a Monorail "Purple Line" Proposal from business leaders that would go above Wilshire Blvd. But thats only if the subway idea doesn't go through the city council. @mayorron: Not quite, DT L.A. would be the size of Midtown Manhatten, because you would have to include Universal City, Burbank, as well as Long Beach and even in some ways Santa Monica, which is also building alot of condos.quote> yea, I've heard of this too. But let's be realistic here. does LA have the money for this? I dont think so. The freeways are the major mode of transportation in LA and they cant even keep those up to top notch. It's noy like if they can higher taxes or something cause theyre already extremly high. A small 2,000 sq ft home there costs at least 400 grand.

El Paraiso Closure Notice Well, I didnt want this to happen, but it seems I'm going to close the cj for good. Here's why: For christmas this year, I got a new laptop that is much better than the computer I used normally. So, what I have to do is install sc4 onto my laptop, then I have to transfer all the custom content I have from the stex. Then I would have to start a new region. So, sorry but were closed. If you would like to leave a comment, feel free to do so. -raul39-

well, those chocolates were for my family, but when I got them I just couldnt resist eating them. They were so good! lol Regarding that one question, I say not only the commercialists get money, but also all the lawyers and such because they get to solve all the "shot in store lines" cases.
-
Woot! Chocalates! I have to get some for my whole family! Oh, and great pics in this cj!

Hmm, it seems I haven't updated since last month... I have been slacking off... or is it RLS. I dont know. But the good news is that Im here w/ another update. If you think I have been working hard on Las Palmas, your redicioulusly wrong! (well somewhat wrong). No I have worked on Las Palmas but not much. I rarly tuch SC4 but I try! Anyways, heres the update Here's whats done. Well... not all! It could be 4th of July and it could be christmas and you will always see tons of people at the beach! Downtown hasn't changed much. But I like the exstensive use of nam! Its Park Place Mall! Come now and every store has a great sale and a gift wrapping center for the holidays! Fee's may be charged in all participating stores for gift wrapping Bring your kids, your family, your boy or girlfriend, and YOUR MONEY, to the new Goobergen Aquarium! ^^They could care less about your family if you ask me!^^ The Park Place Suburbs are lined w/ beautiful palm trees There goes the freeway. Even at night, the beach is always a wave of people! ...and that's what happens to careless hotel owners when they forget to turn of the freakin lights. I feel sorry for them when they get the bills. Sorry, but that was it. Let me do the replys here: patriots_1228: Yea, some pics are photoshopped, but with MS Paint. I would like to know this program of yours, thanks! HabLeUrG: yea, I try to be as realistic as posible. Thanks for your comment! asturianu: gracias amigo! Shulmanator: lol, well in Las Palmas, it's always summer! asturianu: estas inquieto para el otro capitulo, se entiende, y aqui esta! BlondeTwiggy: don't worry, im not mad, lol. Are you talking about the highway light towers in that pic? those are on the stex. If you like them, yjust search "highway" on the stex. thanks! Happy Holidays from sunny California, where it never looks like christmas (well, besides christmas lights)

Always amzing pics in this cj! I like the greenery too. BTW: The update on Santa Maria (the one w/ the skyscrapers), yea that's totally not where I live, cuz ur edition is much better than where I live!
-
Teaser Update Well, Christmas RLS is all over me so getting on sc4 is pretty hard, but here is a glimps on what I've been working on Pretty nice isn't it. More to come soon!
-
Good luck on this project! I'm looking foward to see more of this.

AWsome lake! I must say that the logs for some reason just caught my attention. They add to the realism! Great use of pegs trails too! (are they pegs trails?)

Welcome to Chapter 22! Lately, I have been hard at work with my new city Las Palmas as you EP commoners may know by now. So this chapter is all about my progress with Las Palmas. Let me just say that I have never grown a city like this before. I first started with all the road layout (Note that some roads there are future avenues). Then I built the whole port area. Then I went on to Downtown and then finally the residential area. well here are the pics. enjoy! So there is downtown. I really went overboard with all the NAM puzzle pieces here. There is the city at night. It seems I need to fix the pollution there a bit. There is the freight depot along with other factories. Like it says in the banner, more of the dock. I never planned this with the city, but when this new freight yard pack by north county dude was uploaded to the stex, I decided to use it in my city. In Los Angeles, I-710 goes right over a huge freight yard near were I used to live. Well, here is the same concept, only here I decided to bury the freeway under the freight yard using the cool looking Boston Big Dig Lots by Blahdy. El Paraiso is home to one of the hugest beach dunes in the world. The Oceano Dunes in California's Central Coast inspired me to do this. I go ride my ATV there sometimes because it's only a 20 minute drive from were I live. These here are The Palms Dunes. There is a shot of the whole area at night. We've all heard of ground freeways I suppose. We try to build them all the time in SC4. But have we ever heard of what I call, The Ground Elevated FWY? In California, The Elevated FWY's that SC4 has are almost unheard of. The only FWY in south California that is like the elevated FWYs in SC4 is I-10 in downtown Los Angeles. But what is very common in California are these ground elevated FWYs. All we need now to be 100% complete for these types of freeways is the HWY On-slope puzzle piece. These FWYs are very common in suburbs. Well, that's it for this chapter. Have a wonderful day!

Replies JaneJacobs: Thanks for stopping by! I have posted in your thread before but I will post a new map. asturianu: gracias mi buen amigo! estoy seguro que te gustara lo que sigue en mi lista de solpresas! YannickMtl: thanks a lot for thinking that! The mod I use on the streets is here: https://www.simtropolis.com/stex/index.cfm?id=16098 The level terrain is was terraformed when I actually made the map. A list of modds I use is in the first post of the cj. BlondeTwiggy: See everyone, a link to your cj helps attract readers! That's how I got to your cj too. Those maps are made on simple yet easy to use MS Paint. Thanks for the comment! Camaron: thanks! Yes, transit networks are my favorite part of the game. I just wish I can make them more complex but that's why we have NAM right!? I should have a teaser maybe tomorrow, but don't rely on that. Have am awsome day! Edit: How the heck do I take of that code under these letters here?!

impressive city building! And strangly enough, I read the Santa Maria Times everyday in RL! Great newspaper! It looks very realistic! Keep it up!
-
Nice update! The college campus looks very neat and well planned out. As for the question, I have no idea!
-
Well its not good to bump threads but it was my fault. When I updated I forgot to update the subtitle to say Chapter 20 so no one replied. So here it is.
-
Well, the developement to get this region started looks great! Congrats on the 20k page views! You deserve it!
-
Well, here it is: Chapter 20! *What's that you say? The sign says chapter 21. nah, that's nonsense! It says chap, oh my god, it does!* Well With my careless mind, I will just leave it as is, but just to make sure.. Chapter 20 There, so today we get to see Las Palmas, which is another city to the east on the coast. Shown here are pics of a trip from Ciudad del Rio to Las Palmas. Here the I-15 crosses the Corcovado River after going through a mountain by Ciudad del Rio. Just shortly after crossing the river you get to a small town named San Felipe. Here is San Felipe in between the Corcovado River. The San Felipe Interchange at night. Notice SR 134 goes to El Monte. And here is Las Palmas. Notice it is still a work in progress. Another view of the freeway. Notice this pic is in the same city tile as the one shown on top. Another pic of farmland. Here's a shot of the port and planned downtown. Note the no powere zots on the train station. Those are intentional to show that I'm not done yet. Well, that's it for today. Take care everyone! Off Topic: Well, I couldn't get my hands on the Nintendo Wii on launch day so I will be playing more sim city. I did get to play it though in my friend's house and it is awsome! Want to loose weight and have fun at the same time? Try playing tons of boxing matches on Wii Sports and you can say then, "hey, I lost weight actually playing video games!"

Great looking cities! I happen to live in Santa Maria!....... in California that is! Cant wait for the next update!
-
Nice update! I like the great use of custom content also! is that last pic supposed to be like some plans on how the stadium will loo? It looks good. Just some critisism: Arent' the dirt streets out of place in a large city?
