About this City Journal
Welcome to Arcola. This is my first attempt at a city journal.
What you are seeing here is a city very very loosely based on a 1930's - 1940's era Kansas City. It is my intent to build this out to resemble a midwestern American city from that era. Kansas City is a major railroad town, lies at the confluence of the Missouri and Kansas rivers and had/has diverse industry. Kansas City, especially in those days was known as the Paris of the Plains...due to the high number of fountains and boulevards, parks etc.
So with that in mind, I have a city here at the confluence of rivers, lots of rail and industry, and I am attempting to place park spaces, fountains and street cars appropriately according to my theme.
So far, I have built out the city center, and have more or less placed the main boulevards, and main rail lines. I have also laid down a robust shopping/finance/government/and entertainment section to the southeast of town, north of the main railroad station, with a substantial industirial area east of that.
I have not yet built out any main residential zones, and will begin to do that soon. I also intend to lay out some heavy industry and railyards in the "bottoms" (low elevation areas next to rivers)
I am new at this, so if anyone has suggestions let me know. Any comments and thoughts would be appreciated.
Also..lastly...eventually I will turn on this city and allow houses etc to be built, but my intention isn't to win or collect taxes etc...I am aiming to build an eye catching city.
THANKS!
