There are generally two classification of residential settlement in Mindanao. Residences are classified according to their formality and legality. Formal settlement are those residential areas that are arranged accordingly by blocks or one that follows grid system. Otherwise, it is called informal. On the other hand, legal residential areas are those areas that have been approved and validated by Mindanaoan Government. Home-owners are legally issued with "Certificate of Land Title" as the major proof of ownership.
