If you've read your history, you know that the entire population was under the control of the government in Klov. This lasted until 1850, when the eastern and western costal regions broke to form Bordav and Peotav.

Peotav and Bordav broke away from the central Syldav government over a changing economic context. Wanting to industrialize, the costal regions--Bordav in particular--wanted one immigration and new transportation systems to develop goods cheaply, move goods quickly, and have a large consumer population-base.

Peotav was significantly less developed than Bordav and had less to gain from separating from Syldav. But Bordav needed Peotav's resources if its separation were to be successful.

Bordav saw Peotav as its personal collection of consumers, cheap labor, and farmers. Bordav promised Peotav that it would military defend the region and provide unparalleled economic support. After being convinced of her own well-begin, Peotav agreed so break from Syldav.

But all Bordav promised was not to come. Bordav was intent on keeping Peotav as its submissive state.

With the discovery of oil in Bordav, Peotav became all the more dependant on Bordav.  Needing developmental support, Peotav appealed to Bordav. Bordav, in turn, provided Peotav with oil power plants, highways, diesel trains, and petroleum-based fertilizers. In short, Peotav's entire economy was dependant on Bordav's oil.

Through this power, Bordav held it's grip of Peotav. Though relief would come in 2000 with the Balboa-led reunification of Syldav island, Peotav suffered for 150 years as an independent nation.

More to come soon!

The run-down shops in the bottom picture certainly add to the story. I look forward to seeing some of the farms of Peotav. :)
