ECONOMY OF CORDENSIA
The economy of Cordensia is considered by many to be complex - many others see it as non-existant. Since the early 19th century the Duchy has been something of a tax haven - charging far less tax for corporations than many other states. This means that it is very heavy in Commercial Offices and some Services, which are charged rates of around 0.5%
Agriculture
is very prevalent with Cordensia but is not a large part of the economy. Outside of King's Newfield, where a number of relatively high-tech farms run personally by the Duke (who,it is said, takes a personal interest in farm machinery) provide food to the local residents, much farming is subsistence only and relies on outdated methods and technologies. Strip-farming is said to be in use in some areas. Certain Biologists argue that the conditions in the soil in Cartensia would permit the growing of a number of expensive and sought-after herbs and plants, however the lack of an agricultural economy means that attempts by outside parties to cultivate valuable crops have been unsuccessful.
Tourism
is another prevalent sector within King's Newfield - with the city housing a number of lavish casinos, hotels, and nightclubs. Tourists can take a tour up to 'Duke's Hill' for £300 and catch a glimpse of the lavish 18th century palace in which the Duke and his Court reside - however there are very few opportunities to enter it (one way is to purchase a ticket to the annual Midnight Ball - tickets £5,000)
