Mayfield

Travelling further north-east once again, we enter the Mayfield area. You can see here 86th Street merging off of Mayfield Road. (86th St. is the N/S road). This neighborhood was fully developed in the mid 1960's, but this interchange was a relatively recent addition - being constructed in the early 1990's. Increased flow to and from downtown required a smoothing of this intersection.

We caught a peek of it in the last shot, but here is St. Michael's Cemetary. It first began in the 1920's, when Mayfield was a seperate town on the outskirts of Red River. It is one of the largest cemetaries in the city today.

To the east of St. Michael's is Mayfield Town Center, a small shopping complex with auxiliary stores around it. Once one of the more luxurious malls in the city, having its heyday in the mid 70's, it has been losing prominance over the decades as new, larger malls are constructed on the suburbs.

To the north of the mall are the Mayfield Apartments. There have been numerous drug rings operating out of this area.. not the most pleasant part of town. Parkfield Elementary school as a result has been dwindling in attendance.. city council is considering shutting it down as a part of its cost saving measures.

Here's a quick overview of the area, facing south.

And, facing east.
And that's all folks.. hope you enjoyed the update!
