THE WACKOJAK UPDATE SPECIAL

7.27 pm Wednesday...

By personal request via PM, of the Wackonator himself I am now logging out of ST... to go and make an update...

Edit:  8.38pm

Alrighty then... what have I come up with in the last hour or so...

Well if Jackowacko wants a house at the top of the crater then we are gonna need a road...  and a bit of a flat space to actually build something... not that it really stops us in NZ.. we will build a house just about anywhere... flat is a relative term, as we have well established at the very beginning.. of this masterful piece of binary brilliance... but I am digressing into painful territory...  15.gif

Suprisingly the AVCPS put up very little fight over this latest residential desecratation of their newest igneous member... they were still too busy trying to wipe the lava of their red faces over the east / west tunnel debarcle....

WackoJackonator was very excited about his new residential building lot and quickly drove up the new road to check out the new construction pad...  in the little car that could. 29.gif

Ground work was well underway for the new residential lot.

A little explosive and the site was nicely prepared. 6.gif

The road was finished in hardly any time at all..   (actually I had to demolish it an rebuild it a couple of times to get the construction vehicles in the shot but that is another digression... 21.gif)

Hmmm.... no power .... how to get power up the top of the mountain with out having to build those ugly power pylons... 42.gif

NoPower.jpg

Vola!  A little instant lawn laid down and the power cables safely tucked underneath. 9.gif

I hope Jackinthebox likes the skate park...  and hopefully it will hurry along the construction of his house...

And a few trees to soften the edges of the new turf...

Chuck the throttle into Cheetah.... and well whadda ya know ... you can get a builder when ya want one.  Looks like Wacky will have a couple of neighbours.  Well it would be lonely living on ya own... 41.gif

Before you could say "The Blues thrashes the Crusaders".... 17.gifthe houses are built and ready to move into.

The skate park is an instant success, Jackowak is now torn between the invigorating fresh air and the wonders of exercise and his PC...

That my friends is how you do a Wackitupdate in a little over an hour...  I hope you enjoyed. 16.gif

 Author's Commentary:

This update is a very good example of one made 'on the fly'...    One evening while crusing around ST, (as you do..)  I had an exchange of PMs with my fellow kiwi friend Wackojak.    The result was that I logged out of ST and whipped up this update in just over an hour...  that is...  cranking up the game, making some developments, taking some screenshots, uploading to photobucket, and finally making the update in my CJ.

OK, there are a couple of things here.   The first thing is that I have now obviously realised the value and benefit of flattening out building sites with single road tiles before zoning.   Flattening out building sites is the key to avoiding those huge block foundations.

Of course this hand terraformed region was particularly hilly, and was the frequent point of disccussion and comment in the early part of my CJ.   As a new player I had no idea about building on flat areas, and it was pretty much 'grid and go' regardless of any hills that might be in the way.

Of course the real life reality of Auckland is that it is most definately not a flat city, and building up, down and around hills is very much part of development in this city.

Also the idea of building on a completely flat terrain tile, even as a new player did not really grab my interest.   To me building on hills is all part of the challenge of the game.

I still very much prefer to build on hilly and undulating tiles, however these days I do have a much better idea on how to build on hills without all those ugly foundation blocks everywhere.
