City: Freeport

Mayor: Martin Spears (Viportools)

Population: 68,000

Country: Republic of Amoroff

City Specialization: Trade/Oil

Welcome to the city of Freeport. Founded by the trading tycoon Martin Spears in the thirties (2034), Freeport had undergone massive growth, and is now the biggest port in the Republic of Amoroff. As an industrial center, Freeport undeniably the main contributor to Amoroff's pollution problem, although efforts have been made to "go green". Freeport's greatest exports are a dwindling oil supply and an increasing supply of alloy and plastic. Originally known as "Bamberg Basin", Freeport's name references the freedom of capitalism and the fact it is a port. (No relation to Everquest). Freeport's politics are mainly conservative oriented with a wealthy elite and white collar engineers and scientists dominating the scene. Freeport is based off of typical American ports, such as Philadelphia, Boston or the Port of South Louisiana and Orleans. Census puts Freeport's population at about 68,000. While not the biggest city in the country, Freeport is vital to it's economy.

Here are photos from Freeport's birth...

~2,500 citizens:

The southern end, this was the sight of the future harbor.

I started to develop the southern end. Had to plan ahead and might as well start early. I placed some wealthy parks, and to my surprise a whole bunch of rich sims decided to move in. Perhaps it was the ocean view that compelled them?

Jump ahead to ~25k. Medium and high density start to appear in great numbers. I was very surprised with the high wealth high density since it usually doesn't appear until much later. I was surprised at the rate of growth as well, I didn't manage to get ~15k pop. pictures!

~30,000. I placed a lot of civic services, such as a high school and a large police station. All of my high wealth homes have become high density skyscrapers, somewhat in contrast to the rest of the city. I also had made a casino in the corner there, to attract some of the tourists constantly flowing into the region.

During that time I was also working on my trade specialization, while drilling for oil and selling it on the market for a good amount. I was able to get the Trade Headquarters quite quickly. I had also encouraged (cheated in a way) in getting high tech industry by placing Dr. Vu right next door, and it helped boost the tourists and freight sales.

During this time something regrettable happened: I had a zombie attack which nearly wiped out my city! Over 10,000 citizens were dead and 80 buildings abandoned and had to be demolished. I wish I could of taken pics, but I was too busy panicking. I did manage to grab a picture of the regrowth that happened afterwards...

I like the city overall. The tracks just stopping at the water looks a little weird.

Thank you. The tracks itself should go into the freight port when I get enough simoleans/space to do so.

Nice city. I keep wanting to go and buy sc13, but then i think about the path-finding problems, the persistence of sims, the extremly small "city" sizes, and what really grinds my gears, no farmland!! :P

I guess I'll just get cities in motion 2 until they fix up simcity :D

Pathfinding and persistence are new concepts to be honest. Up to now we just had an excel spreadsheet.

It will take time to mature the technology without requiring 8 core processors.
