Southern Cities: Atlanta
Good Afternoon Everyone!!
After a long hiatus I return with my recreation (fictional) of the state capital, and largest city, of Georgia--Atlanta. I will try to keep some similarities with the real ATL, with massive skyscrapers as well as low-density areas surrounding the central core. As of now, my Atlanta has approximately 520,000, and I will finish the region with close to 5 million people, which coincidentially is the population of the Atlanta metro area.
In this first of several entries for ATL, we see a regional satellite image, as well as the region map. Right now I am working on enclosing the city with a beltway; which may be eclipsed by an outter beltway in the future. Unfortunately, ATL only has a regional airport, a large international airport will be constructed in due time.
The Atlanta transportation system, as shown in the below map, is based on an assortment of freeways, light-rail, heavy commuter rail, and an extensive bus network.
The freeways traversing the city include I-85, I-75, and I-20; as well as a host of smaller US and state highways. Additionally, the mass transit system connects all portions of the city into a complex, well-connected network.
