__________________________________________________________ founded in 1888 port diamond served as a railroad hub which brought industrial growth to the city many people moved here to take jobs at factories small buisneses set up shop here increasing the city's comerence in by 1900 the city's population was at 50,000 in 1955 the interstate was expanded to the city's districts increasing the city population to 100,000
in 1980 a textile factory closed down plunging the city into an economic downfall in 1995 the city
faced major layoffs and deficits and is still facing that problem today
in 2013 the city population is 2 million
