THE CAPITAL: PORT KINGSLEY
Located in the parish of St.Anne, Port Kingsley is the capital and largest city in the British Antilles. Originally founded by the French and named, Port Margarite (After their ship, la Margarite) When the town was taken by the British it was name Port Kingsley after the captain of the fleet that took the islands. For years the city grew and became the centre of trade and commerce on the island.Today the city serves as the capital and due to its large natural harbour it is a major shipping centre in the Eastern Caribbean.

The St.Anne Monastery was one of the first buildings built in the city by the British.

Originally built by the French to serve as a a centre for commerce,government and a safehouse in case of an attack it was converted into the headquarters of the British Caribbean Trading Company. Today it is a multipurpose building that houses government offices and a museum.

The University of the British Antilles is one of the largest universities in the Caribbean. It was also rated as one of the best business and technology schools in the Americas.

Marina Tower was originally built as a communications tower and a control tower for the harbour but has been recently renovated and now has an observation deck. It is also the tallest tower in the Caribbean.

One of the oldest and most beautiful houses in the British Antilles is the Francis Estate. Built shortly after the arrival of the British in the Italian style this large mansion was the home of a wealthy merchant.Today it is a museum.

Originally built as a church by missionaries the St.Charles Cathedral was turned into a fort called Fort Charles. The fort was armed with cannons,guns,ammo and a saferoom and its main purpose was to defend the city in case of an attack. Unfortunately the fort was reduced to ruins following an earthquake that hit the area shortly after the fort was attacked by the French. Today it has been declared a historic site and is a popular tourist attraction for those who are willing to make the trek up the winding roads to the top of the mountain.

In recent years the capital has become home to more and more global companies such as this Ikea,one of the first built in the Caribbean.

The Lotus Concert Hall is a brand new structure that was built according to green principals.Its name comes from its shape which resembles a lotus flower.
