GLR/Tram Problems

Sorry to interrupt this forum again, but I'm having problems setting up my GRL/Tram in my city. Whenever I try to construct the pieces, it will cause the game to crash and return back to the destop. And when I complete it, the GLR usually has little or no users to it (when using certain train stations). Is there a series of solutions to this problem?

I have the exact same problem. Very annoying. I make sure that I save my city before laying any GLR track. 4.gif

The key here is to save your stations for last. Whenever you hover a puzzle piece (any puzzle piece) over a transit enabled lot, the game will crash. This is not a bug with the NAM, rather lazy coding on the part of the programmers at Maxis. Make sure that you drag actual El-rail through each station. This is important for visual and UDI reasons. Also, make sure your GLR system goes where the traffic needs to go. Make sure you have provided parking/bus transit for each station as most of the GLR stations do not include parking the way heavy rail stations do.

Hope this helps.

I have the same problem; I always save the game after placing a GLR puzzle, but sometimes when I move the cursor to the save button, the game crashes and I can start all over again!!!

Does anybody have a solution? Thanks

Press / to clear your cursor of any puzzle peice.  Use CTRL+S to do a save.

Network puzzle pieces, like the GLR tracks or the ped-mall tiles can cause the game to crash if hovered on top of transit-enabled lots, like the GLR stations. So place them very carefully, better place the tracks before the stations, and after having finished laying the tracks, press Esc (this will change the cursor back to the default arrow). Also stop and save your city before placing any GLR or pedmall piece (literally before even selecting the piece from the menu), this will save you from trouble

Thanks for your answers, but even moving the cursor a bit faster causes the game to crash!

You may have a plugin conflict with the NAM.

  1. If you have any transit mods or an older version of the NAM installed, remove them.
  2. If this doesn't work, make sure you have the latest NAM version and try again
  3. If this doesn't work, save your plugins and regions and do a reinstall.
  4. If you still don't have any joy, you have to test your plugins.  Remove them all except the NAM to another folder and retest, ignoring brown boxes.  If the problem is gone, then you need to test each plugin, one at a time (tedious, but necessary) with the NAM.  If you don't find the problem, then suspect hardware.

It must be the software because it's a new PC (AMD 64 3200+) 1024 RAM Dual Channel and PCI Graphic (it's only a ATI X550). SC4 is the only game I have on my PC. So I think I have to do this once; thanks anyway.

If you meant dual core, use the task manager to assign the game to a single processor.  We have had this problem before, but I don't remember whether it was on this board or on Simcity.com.

No it's dual channel. Thats what the BIOS says when I switch on the PC. The thing with the same RAM-Modules working in the same frequence. My english is too bad, explaining such technical issues.

N_O_Body: Dual channel RAM is not dual cores! It means he has two 512 megs of ram that are working together in a 'dual channel' setup I have it on all 7 of my computers. Nothing to do with processors.

OK, thanks.  Dual channel controllers are irrelevant to trouble with the game.  Now, have you checked that you have all the latest drivers for your hardware and all software is up to date?

Since you have the NAM, your game version must be at 640 (includes the BAT fix).  If this is not the case, log on to Simcity.com and get the necessary patches.

Have you tried a game reinstall?

What language do you prefer?

On that matter, I have build 638 (640 won't work on this CPU with the external hard drive and user-defined location), and NAM works very well.

As far as the earlier advice, that was actually helpful, but I still have a problem with my stations. While certain ones work and function well, others have a tendency to have no ridership, despite the fact of these station being located in the same area. Are there certain stations that work and certain ones that don't, or is it something bigger?

I reinstalled it twice with no changes; My game version is 640.I think I have to check all my patches and clean my plug in file. Preferred language is english, though sometimes I'm to lazy to talk or type in english.
