Ok, I have a small city of about 300,000 people.  My garbage rate is at 200,000 tons.  Getting rid of it would cost me $70,000 a month, which would put me at  -$50,000 a month.  ***** am I suppost to do about this?

This is incredible, for such a city garbage production should be some 1200 tons/month, so two W2E plants and a deal or a small landfill should be enough (costing you some $2500/month). What do you mean that your garbagbe rate is 200,000, are you talking about the "Total Garbage" plot in your Garbage Graph? Well, this is not the garbage production rate, it's instead the total garbage deposited in your landfills and your city.

The best way to get rid of your garbage is to make a deal, some research I have made has also shown that's the most economical too. Landfills are really expensive, they cost $3/ton/month!!! (all this upkeep when landfills get full). W2E plants cost $2/ton/month and by taking into account the electricity produced this should be some $1 to 1.5/ton/month). You can also get my Incinerator (non power generatring) from the STEX, the plugin also contains a modified version of Graph Mod, showing more detail and more graph plots (so that you really know what are your garbage needs).

If you really have a high garbage production rate (more than 400 tons per 100,000 citizens per month) search for the stats fix pack by T_Wrecks, some BATs/lots on the STEX are really awfully modded.

I made deal with a neighbooring city that's all landfill and it cost me about $70,000+ to get rid of all the garbage in my city which puts me in the negative. This just happened suddenly. It was fine before.

EDIT:: Okay, I just checked, it's actually 80,000 tons a month.

But still, 80000 tons per month is way too much, it should be some 1200 tons/month.

As said above the amount that shows in the Garbage Graph is not "rate" (ie tons/month), instead its "quantity" (ie tons), and comprises both the amount of garbage deposited in your landfills (if you have any), and the garbage in your city (this shows up as "Garbage Pollution" in the Graph). If your city has a lot of garbage (not picked-up), you could make a deal worth some $5000/month, this would be enough to take all of your garbage within a few months. As soon as your Garbage Pollution gets zero, you can make a deal of some 1200 tons/month (costing you far less), and see how it goes.

Your all-landfill neighbour can never make money, there is actually a bug that causes the cost of landfills to be seriously underestimated, so never "run" this city, just leave it as is (and let the others benefit of it). See also this thread.

How large is your city? If it is an eyesore meaning that all the buildings are beutiful, I would get rid of iyour garbage. If your city is a low wealth residential and low wealth commerial city, I would get rid of your garbage unless you REALLY need room. If your city has industry in it or high wealth commercial, or high wealth residential, I would give your garbage away.

the old garbage ( and air and water pollution) problem, I and many have run into this before.

well this is a result of the plugin manager assigning wacky pollution stats to growable building without the knowlege of the maker (it would give 50%-1000% more pollution than assigned, sort of picked a random number for some reason

believe the problem has now been fixed, but any building made before this discovery...well it will have wacky stats

3 possible ways of dealling with this :
a: use cheat lots to get rid of the garbage
B: download T_Wrecks' stats and value mod (it fixes the stats of about 500 buildings (way to go T_Wrecks, a lot of work...very nice job...4.gif )
C: download the SC4Tool program and scan any lots to get their stats...if you see they are wacky...edit them (the Tool has editing capabilities) you can compare to the original buildings to find realist stats , as per the game

    hope that hel

PS think 120,000 tones of garbage is the games max default, or well at least i never gone above it ...it seems to flat line there....but in the zone view there litter everywhere in the town...43.gif

Did you let the garbage pile up, without any garbage disposal facilities, during a few years? If you did that, then decided to export/dispose of the garbage, it might explain why it costs you so much. After a while (3 months maybe?), things get fixed.

If you were trying to decompose rubbish, you can be assured that I am planning a mod that will speed up the time it takes for rubbish to decompose. It would be released under the Modds and Downloads section, currently un-available online.

@Constantina: It may be just my opinion, but I wouldn't really favour such a mod, and any mod that makes the game "easier". Anybody can make a park with ten times the effect strength (for the same money) a power plant costing a third of the price and generating no pollution (or "better yet" eliminating pollution) and so on. But would you really like such a game? This is actually nothing more than using those money cheats (Unlimited Money, Money Tree etc).

Landfills in SC4 are really unrealistic, as they "eliminate" all the garbage they get. In reality, landfills eventually get full, and are usually covered with soil (or else the site is "restored"). A mod that would make landfills decompose the garbage faster would make this even more unrealistic. But how landfills work in SC4 is largely hardcoded. What would be really usefull is not a mod that would cause garbage to decompose faster, but instead a mod that would allow landfills be dezoned earlier. You can't dezone a landfill (when the garbage is reduced in a 2x2 area) even if the garbage still remaining is just 0.04 tons! This is why you need 30 or more gameyears to be able to dezone this little remaining "lot". A mod that would make the game to consider this area empty if it has less, say, 0.5 tons would be vastly more useful.

I dont make lots, but I wish there was a "Composter" lot out there.

Maybe cost around the same as recycler, and speed up docomposing quite a bit.

I've wanted to do a green region, but find the garbage issue is the biggest hurdle. (Without using the magic chute thing)

I made a small city right in the center of my Region that is a complete landfill, it helps a lot.
