Messed Up Menus Problem

Hmmm, I give! I've looked all over but can't find a posting I once read about deleting some file so that the game would "reset" the menus. I've put in some DLed stuff and then deleted it but there are a bunch of blank spaces in the menus. I KNOW I saw a posting somewhere but do you think I could find it? ??? NO way, Jose! - Any help, please? ??? - 46.gif

did u delete all dl'ed files???

make sure that there are no remnants of the dl'ed files...a good suggestion would be export your entire plugin folder to another location on your HD and re-introduce the BATs/lots/mods/whatever into your plugin folder

    - - At the risk of offending ... - I DO know what I'm doing, been puting for more than 15 years. I saw, somewhere on the forum, a or maybe several references to a Sim-compiled file which holds the references to the currently installed plug-ins. One can delete this file which will then be recreated by the Sim prog. The problem is I don't remember what the name of the file is nor do I know WHERE it is. - - As a side note: does anyone know how I can get the msg system to stop removing line breaks? As all can see I'm currently using a dash as a line beginning to confuse the dang system. - 46.gif

At the risk of offending, where in the previous reply does the writer imply that you don't know what you're doing?

When someone is courteous enough to respond to an inquiry, perhaps a little reciprocity is in order.

I routinely add and delete files from my plug-ins folder, as a way of managing nearly 4000 plug-ins, and have never encountered any blank menu items or any other issues with game play.

    - Sorry, you get no cigar! If you look at the original response you'll see that what was called into question was my own ability to discern whether "I'd deleted all the files, make sure there are no remnants of the DLed files". Since there is nothing there responding to the question I asked I "called it as I saw it." Moreover, I made sure that I preceded my response with a caveat exactly so that my resp would be taken to be frustration, not a polemic against the orig poster. YMMV, but then you aren't having the problem I am. 7.gif

Well, all-righty then.  As I've said, I've deleted literally hundreds of files from my plug-ins and have never seen a single blank menu item.  The program file which contains references to plug-ins is easy enough to find; however, a little common courtesy will get you all the help you need, a lack of courtesy will get you nowhere.

    no offense taken nor intended...

as far as menu questions, i believe that Daeley of the BSC team had been working on a menu mod to reorganize the menus, which to me implies that he has a much better of understanding about the nuts and bolts of this stuff than i do.  i know your not looking to reorganize, but he might know what is causing your problem.

maybe a PM to him might help, or check the BSC forum pages

Well, I did PM Daeley without any success. He doesn't remember anything like this. I've removed everything from my Plugins folder but the menu still shows the items I had in it. I remember reading a post somewhere that talked about just this problem but I can NOT remember where I read it. Frustrating as all get out. I REALLY don't want to re-install but I may have to just to fix things. 27.gif

sorry about that...i couldve sworn it was Daeley, but i guess i was mistaken...

the good thing about doing a re-install is that you wont lose your plugins folder(i would still back it up just to be safe).  it only takes a few minutes, so personally thats the route id take before driving yurself nuts with trying to find a solution
