unfortunately, there are no mods which make a game run better on your computer. If you want to make that simcity runs better on your computer, you'll have to turn down visual things in the visual options menu. You can think of shutting down wave display, cloud display, turning down the amount of traffic displayed, and so on. Just take a look at the visual options menu in simcity, and you will see for yourself. Hope this helps!

I created a hardware profile specifically for the game which freed up some resources by stopping processes and diabling un-need hardware devices.

What are your system specs? The only way to REALLY improve game performance drastically is with better hardware. If you don't have atleast 1 GB of RAM, get more. Also, what video card are you using?

You can mess with them. It is safe to delete every process which is under your user name except for explorer.exe which is the windows taskbar. Just don't touch the system ones. I remember there was a huge fight on here about it but now EA says to do the exact same thing in the open for business manual to speed up performance!

The worst that can happen when messing with the tast manager is your desktop will dissapear or Windows will yell at you. But you can still start SC4 without a desktop. Close Explorer.exe, go to File --> New Task (Run...) and type "SimCity4.exe".

Obvious question here before getting into an e-arguement is: What are your system specs to begin with? Do you use programs like Microsoft Defragment, ad-aware, spywareblaster, hijackthis!, spybot search and destroy, antivirus, System mechanic 6 pro (trial) ? Running your PC and having it healthy always improves things like game performance.

while these programs do help the performance of the computer (generally speaking) I never felt that they had a direct influence on SC4. In my opinion the best thing u can do (if u find it comfortable) is to create a a user account only for games....or do like what was said here before (close unnecessary processes)...

This is where you are wrong, if you have spyware, malware, and logging programs they all run in your background consuming cpu cycles and ram which can be reserved for your main programs running like sc4.

I disagree 3.gif . You have different saturation levels of malware/spyware and registry errors. For example. When I got my Toshiba tablet pc straight from Toshiba, it was clogged with over 150 items of spyware, and about 400 registry errors. If I didn't know this before hand after reading complaints about people's poor system performance, I would've never known and assumed that my TPC was always a low performer. End result was my PC was at least 20-25% faster depending the application and its demands.

Just to clarify.  I didn't stop any processes manually.  I created a hardware profile that only enables the hardware items and services necessary to run the computer for playing SC4.  When I boot up in Sim City mode things like the USB ports, serial ports, network adapter, etc. are diabled along with some related services.  Windows still decides what to load, I just tried to lighten the load and clear up some background clutter.

i figure you oughta run defrag every once in awhile to clean up the memory mess the game makes when you save. that oughta help free up some ram or somethin... im no computer guru but normal maintenence seems to always help out alot.

Also, keep up with what is in your plugins folder, and delete everything you arent ever going to use thats not a dependency.
