Hi simSurfer. Create a new region in SC4 and name it. Then quit the game. If you find some files in this new region folder delete them. Put the downloaded greyscale picture and the config.bmp file into the new region folder. Restart SC4. In the region view press SHIFT+CTRL+ALT+R. A menu opens. Locate the greyscale picture in your region folder and load it. Depending on the speed of your computer and the size of the map this rendering process may take some minutes. I hope this helps.

jv978, just simply place the greyscale file (not the config.bmp file) onto your hard drive root as that's the starting place for the browser in SC4. Also be aware that you will need to scroll down to find the file as the browser lists folders first, not files.

Hope this helps

For me it helps a little... How do you change your region size?, It said that it needs to be 3072X 3072 Or something like that..

Yes it worked indeed. for anyone having trouble i did as follow: first place the jpg file in root. load sc4 in window mode. create a new map w/ name appropriate to jpg. load another map to simply unload the previous one. go to you sc4/plugins/regions/newmapname folder and delete all files. put the bmp file in this very folder (usually this comes w/ jpg' maps and determines the divisions of regions (guess so)). go to sc4 load back the region. press ShftCtrlAlt R and browse to your jpg in root directory. if everything is right you'll have to wait until the map render.

thanks callagrafx!.. I finally loaded that skeleton island map

Hey Lucas

single click on the SC4 App, then hold the Apple key down and double click. A window appears, then check "play in a window" and choose resolution, et voila.....

Yep, the region size is dictated by two files, config.bmp and the greyscale. If you are not sure as to the size to make the config file, use the simple formula:

1 pixel = 1km

Large cities = 4km ergo 4 pixels. So a 16km x 16km Region config.bmp file is 16 pixels x 16 pixels

The greyscale file follows a similar principle, in that 1km = 64 pixels. So, the matching greyscale file is 1024 x 1024 (arrived at by 16km x 64 pixels). However, for some readon, you need to add 1 extra pixel to the file size, so the final JPEG file should be 1025 x 1025.

If you are unsure as to what size to make your greyscale, plan you region size using the config.bmp file, then when you go to render the region, select any greyscale bitmap and it will tell you there is a size mismatch and it will then tell you the correct size required. Hope this helps.

You can open the region.ini file in textedit, but it has no control ovver region size. To make a bigger region you need to delete the existing region.ini file (and any existing .sc4 city files), then make config.bmp bigger as well as JPEG map file in Photoshop.

Did you not get a copy of Photoshop Elements free when you bought your mac? if not you could download the tryout at adobe.com (note that Macintosh version is 3, not 4). Alternatively you can trawl ebay to see if someone's selling one cheap.

Apart from that, I can't think of any free apps available. Sorry.
