Chumbawamba is a group cursed by its one popular hit. Tubthumpers was an anit-drinking song turned into a party anthem, and have not been able to live up to that reputation yet. however, without them, my eyes would not have turned to the alternative music scene.
it is interesting one of their songs, Where Do You Want To Go Today, has been embraced by the technical world as much as it is used by on an ISP company's commercial. in reality, the song is about the desensitizing of our society via technology.
i think they are a rather talented group. Shh and Slap are also two very good albums, though they were made later in their career.
they would not make my top 5 list in favorite artists, but might break the top 10 and most likely would make it in the top 20.

I've heared a bit of earlier Chumbawamba, not too much, though. However, my wife and I were both into Crass during our highschool years (Ok, pretty much right through our twenties, too)
I think there's a pretty big connection between the two, didn't they both spring up out of the same commune?

EDIT: Yeah, that's how grateful we are is a really good song, I had forgot about that one. We used to have a double disk with a live gig, including that song, on one disk, and a lecture from Noam Chomski on the other. I really liked having that one until some kids broke into our appartment and stole all our disks!

TT, you are too much into the negative. You need to latch on the the affirmative and find a better outlook on life. You can start by listening to less Goth stuff, and thinking fewer Goth thoughts. Today is Valentine's day. Get a copy of a Josh Groban album and listen to some love songs. I think you'll do better if you were not so down in the dumps.

Anyway, the probelm with Chumbawaba is that (especially in the US), most people know them as the one hit wonders who made Tubthumping, and know nothing of the fact that they have a long history before that, before they sold out, so to speak. Actually, Tubthumper is a pretty good album, though the American version is blemished by the fact that they bleeped out all the sweaers in the dialogue parts.20.gif21.gif
