In L.A. the traffic delay problem extends from sunup to sundown, says Schrank. There is really no letup between.

Wow, I'm surprised. Last time I checked the traffic rating, Houston was #2. We (Houston) have the second worst highway in America (slowly becoming number 1) called the Katy Freeway. People are there for hours just doing absolutely nothing... It is quite sad.

But then when it comes to LA, that doesn't surprise me at all. LA has always been known for thier traffic. But I must admit, LA has tons of roads and tons of short-cuts (Well, it did when I went there 18.gif).

Wow, cool to see Orlando down at number 9. I never knew it was such an area for traffic. When I was down there, even during the times when Disney World has the most visitors, there wasn't much traffic. I'm also surprised to see that New York isn't on there. 3.gif But, even living within the city of New York, the traffic isn't HORRIBLE. At some times it is, though. But, we have a good highway network, so I guess that works pretty well to ease traffic. 19.gif

Try living in Boston.  With the Big Dig going on roads are constantly being re-routed/closed, most of the time unannounced, leaving you with a detour through the entire North End (if you are familiar with the Boston Area you will know that this is a huge delay and quite annoying) and adds a good hour to your ten minute trip.  I'm aggravated just thinking about it.

Bostons roads are confusing enough as it is...but with the big dig changing roads and creating detours everyday, its absolutely insane. I come down from New Hampshire frequently, the detours and construction coupled with those Massachussets drivers26.gif17.gifreally take a toll on you, its insane.

Interesting. I've read a number of traffic studies and I usually see Seattle in the top 5. Lucky me - I move from California to escape traffic and end up in Seattle, where it's only going to get worse :/

And of course L.A. will always be number one: after all, it's a dystopian disaster of urban planning.

atlanta has the longest commute time and the most expensive commute. thats cause we are sooooooooooooooooooo spread out. I recently visited atl(smyrna, departure location was buford, gwinnett) for a old printer for my business and the trip was like 40 miles, it took a little over 2 hours. 2 hours just on major highways(985-85-285) and maybe like 4-5 miles on surface streets. traffic here(even in the suburbs, even where the suburbs edge at rural areas). like where I live(dacula, upper east gwinnett) it takes me 5-10 minutes to travel out of my neighborhood. entrance to my neighborhood is a stop light. .1 miles from that is another stop light for exits for the northbound lane 85) .1 miles from that is another stop light(exits for southbound lanes 85) .1 miles from that is a HUGE construction site for a wal-mart, whole bunch of small businesses, resturaunts, apartments, townhouses, and i think a neighborhood. plus they are widening a 2 lane to a four lane and they are re-routing an excisting road, the construction site is like .1-.2 miles long. and this is everywhere, not just in my location, I mean it is EVERYWHERE, plus summer is comming up and they always resurface the highways, and they are gonna start doing a major overhaul on the 316-85 exchange, so yeah traffic is crazy now, but it's only gonna get worse. ***edit: why is my paragraphs not registered?

Yeah im surprised the boston isnt on that list. I mean, anybody driving through I-93 anytime of the day through downtown should know that it is some of the worst traffic in the country.

I-10 is annoying where I live

yet it's the only way to go to houston other than westpark tollroad(which I don't have a eztag)

or westheimer which I want to avoid by any means possible

The Corner of SH6 and Westheimer get the most traffic accidents as it is

Weirdly, traffic was a lot worse around Baltimore last year than it is this year. I guess there are fluctuations in the traffic pattern that are severe enough to be noticeable.

I live in Baltimore (inside the Baltimore City borders), and I haven't noticed anything other than the norm. Fridays is when the traffic gets bad early, especially by the Inner Harbor (for those that do not live in the area, that is where the water is). Most of the traffic is in the suburbs, where many people have moved to in recent years due to crime (homicide and drugs mostly) and on the Baltimore Beltway (I-695 in Maryland). I-83 south of I-695 suddenly ends on Fayette St, so that causes some problems for the visitor that dosen't have a good enough map.

I'm not surprise that Houston is on the list.  There is bearly a decent mass-transit system and the never-ending construction. I drive to downtown almost everyday and it sucks.

the I-10/610 change= ugly scene

Same with Beltway8 and I-10

I want I-10 to be done now!

Chicago is the worst for me, but i am suprised that Milwaukee, WI not listed ( thank god ). Milwaukee,WI traffic is bad in downtown with the construction on the Marqutte Interchange brings the traffic to the lakeshore or I-894 with times 5 to 20 minutes more than normal.

I'll agree with LA being #1, but I would've guessed Houston would rank higher than 5. If you miss an exit, hope you have an hour or two to kill. And Dallas/Fort Worth next?! I guess it has been a while since I drove in DFW.

EDIT: I-5 and I-10, Los Angeles...who comes up with this stuff?!?

Agreed! (Although this is an old thread to bump)

Houston should be closer to number one. Today, I got to school 20 minutes late after leaving 30 minutes early from my home. 15.gif

I think Rita proved that Houston truly does have the worst traffic seeing how it took some people 26 hours just to get to Dallas from Houston! (Which is only like a 4 hour drive).

Just to show you busy highways from a Canadian perspective...

The 401 is the busiest highway in Canada, stretching from the border of the United States in Detroit, Michigan, through the southern Ontario suburbs into the bustling city of Toronto, all the way up to Quebecois territory.

Unlike the many commuters to Toronto, my family pursues a less hectic way of life in Alberta. Look at all the people in thier little cars....

My first time to ever drive a car not just from school and back was driving in down to houston and going on the west beltway during a huge rainstorm in a traffic jam

It was a 'fun' learning experience lets just put it that way

Oddly enough I've never gotten close to ever having a wreck on a freeway or in heavy traffic or things like that. Yet I've had a few incidents in mundane places like parking lots or on regular streets.....

Well, at least in Houston, I don't know how you would get into a car accident on the jammed freeways even though it happens everyday.

You are sitting there in dead stop traffic, moving about 10 feet every couple of minutes and BAM! - 8 car pile up with SUVs flipped over, big rigs jack-knifed, freeway closures, and the resulting collapse of Houston into its overweight self creating a black hole of nothingness .

I'm just like, *****? 47.gif

How the heck is New York not on the list. Every day it seems that there is a major backup.
