Got our car back from the dealership.  Went in for a $30 oil change, came out with $800 in service work.6.gif

Don't you love how you go in for something simple and come out with a major bill.
Vid: Would you mind resizing that picture?

They scammed you. You ask for an oil change, you should get an oil change. And that picture is 770x340, within limits. so, yes I would mind. And no I wont.

Well, what they actually did was go looking for stuff to fix.  I don't doubt that some of it needed to be done, but the fact that you come in for an oil change and they check the spark plugs is strange.

quote>

Alot of times, especially at shadier businesses (or Crapadian Tire) they'll just fiddle around with stuff so they have an excuse to fix it. They ripped my grandma off tousands of dollars. She only goes to the garage at the dealership now, things like oil changes are covered as long as the car is owned by her in the warranty.

@ zmveliger: No, I gather MsD is busy with her family, but have no evidence. I am sure we'll hear from her in due time. Actually, I am more interested in languages as structures than as communication vehicles, so grammar excites me more than vocabulary. As a result, I tend to pick up phrases out of context because they illustrate some interesting point. I guess that's why I have been a polyglot computer programmer. It takes me a week or less to be productive in a new computer language provided I have some kind of interactive access to it. Assemblers take a bit longer.

@ vidioman: Too bad about the dog, but 15 isn't bad for Chinese Crested Dogs. I have seen some of these that were very pretty, in fact, when I was in hospital once, I had one drop in as a therapy dog. Nicely groomed and very pretty. As for your aerial shot, I dunno. Weird agendas? Elections are always weird. The incumbents try to buy you with your own money. Haven't you heard the ads? Never open your hood to strangers.

@SYM Productions: CDI_spy: Old news, I am afraid. Been doing the rounds for a few weeks now.

@ Leech10: Carbon? Oh, like the thread that falls on Pern.

@ hym: Wow! They aren't supposed to do stuff like that without prior approval. My Honda dealer sure won't. Zuke fodder is inventoried in our bag of holding.

@ everybody: The picture limit is 800 x 600px. It is probably better to keep it to 640 x 480 or so, to keep it in the frame rather than scrolling the page horizontally.

Either open it in IE, or get IE tab. If you already have IE tab, you can push the little tab button, or right-click and select view this page in IE tab

Well, the fact that they checked up on it is good (I think the spark plugs are the originals and the car has 70,000+ miles on it.  But seriously, when you come in for an oil change, you don't expect them to check the spark plugs, ignition systems, brakes, throttle body assembly, and the transmission.

Edit: I hate it when this happens.  I must have sucked up another virus.  Have to hold the Control key to keep the page still.

the new snow banner doesnt have it 3.gif Oh well.

Lets look at the weather forecast!
    THUNDERBAY
    condition clear
    temperatr -18
    windchill -30
    wind NW33km
    gust   54km
    RESOLUTE
    condition snow
    temperatr -14
    windchill -20
    wind SE11km
    EVERESTSUMMIT
    condition clear
    temperatr -1
    ANTARCTICA-VOSTOK
    condition clear
    temperatr -34
    wind W22km

Okay, Vostok is colder, but not by much. Thunder Bay is pretty much the coldest place in Canada at the moment, but there are probbaly closer places in other parts of the region.

Highway 11 east of Nipigon, and highway 17 east of Nipigon are both closed, meaning at this time, there is no traffic going between eastern and western Canada. Crazy.

@vidioman: IE? Yes, I thought of that, but for a small effect in some banner, why should I bother. I only use IE on sites that require it (e.g. Microshaft's update sites). Firefox is the way to fly, and I keep telling these web survey people that they had better stop depending on the embedded junk in IE (VBScript, for example).

@Voar Tok: The enthusiasm of people who use dial-up on the web never ceases to amaze me. We have had DSL for over five years now, and using a dialup system would drive me nuts.

@ hym: An oil change at my dealer includes a 14 or 15 point inspection for thinks like needed lube, carburation, tire pressure/wear, etc. No work is done without a signed work order, however.

Oh, the weather in Wasaga, hot off the weather network is:

Thats common in large cities like Montral. toronto, for example, has the PATH system, its a large common-place under the city's financial district, connecting all of the skyscrapers to each others, and giving people access yo subways and many shops. THe TD complex start with commecting their buildings by underground tunnels, and it was popular, and soon grew. This way, on very cold days, you don't have to go outside. If you go to Downtown toronto on a cold winter day, its almost deserted.

Many cities have similar systems. Montral has an underground system like Toronto's, and so do Winnipeg and I believe Calgary and Vancouver on smaller scales. Duluth and Minnesapolis Minnesota on the other hand have above ground connections, linking the 3-4th floors (or so) and those levels have shops and things, that way you can go from one place to another without having to put up with cold. Its a very common thing in North America, since we're all pussies.21.gif

Well, they don't do any work without a person's prior approval; however, if your dealership says that something needs work, you can't prove that it doesn't, so you have to take their word on it.  I simply hope that they didn't decided to scam us because my mother was the one taking the car in.  The dealership also does stuff like top of fluids and grease some parts of the frame.

Well, the last time we had a winter election, there was an opposition landslide. Don't you think its time to change over to a different set of hoods and boodlers? I do.

Besides, my conservative MP, Helen Geurgis, is doing a damned good job. I am not afraid of Steven, and he is not in the least bit scary. Meanwhile, the gliberals are trying to buy the election with the taxpayers' own money by promissing to give some back! Hah! Pigs will fly! [First class, usually].

Hello, I'm new to the simtropolis site.  I was invited here by Deb or MsD.  She told me to come in here and check things out.  She was right.  This is a fantastic section on this site.

I see that someone was asking about MsD.  So I thought I would let you know that she is back in the hospitle with a major infection in her sholder where she had surgery after she was thrown off of one of my horses.  It is not looking good for her arm.  She might loose it.

I will let her know that you guys were asking about her.  She will be thrilled to here it.

@vid: No, I live in Grey-Bruce riding. If Helena were appointed minister of northern affairs she would be right at home, even though we aren't really in Northern Ontario. The idea of having a junior MP in charge of such a portfolio scares the stuffing out of me, because if would be Lew MacKenzie. I think Lew would be better at DND. He is one of the few people I know of who could clean out NDHQ and give the operation back to the guys who get shot at. Just because you don't like Stevens gliberal photo-op means you are being taken in already by their dirty tactics. Wake up! If we put the gliberals in again, we'll never forgive ourselves and you can kiss Quebec good-bye. ZMV: how do you say that in French when you don't mean au revoir?

@ Truckin_Papa: Terrible news about Deb. I knew she was a horsewoman, but I didn't think she went for spriited mounts. Tell her I sure hope she'll be all right. We need her to go to BAT with that new lot she is working on. Anyway, tell her when she gets back the virtual round will be on me. For yourself, welcome to the Moose Factory. Here you can spit on the floor and call the cat a bastard. [Please use the brass cuspador, though. The sawdust gets icky. The cat's parentage is definitely unknown.] Our autosystem can cough up anything you can imagine by way of food or drink in a virtual way, so what would you like?

Hmm.  It never ceases to amaze me either.6.gif  Actually, I hate using dialup.  It drives me nuts too.  The only reason why I use it is because I don't pay the bills.  Basically, not paying the bills = no choice in the matter.  However, I can understand that.  But when I get out on my own, I am going to get the fastest internet that I can reasonably afford.
