Roadside Architecture

Ok. I am going to post this here, but if someone more advanced than me can think of a better place to put it, please feel free to transplant my thread.

I have several major things in my life that I see easily transplanted to SC4.
* Historic Preservation
* Amusement Parks (I have been to MAPP already)
and
* Roadside architecture

If you see on my website www.marcavitch.com/ca you will find lots of pictures of what I am talking about. There is already a fair amount of SPRAWL type roadside architecture - which is very cool. Making those off ramp icky places is easy. BUT, there isn't much beyond that.

Not a single good diner.
No major bowling alleys. (If someone wants to pass off a copy of the one from ea.com, that would be awesome.)
No drive-ins that really look right (fan shaped).
Motels are around, but there are no good cabin camps.
Some gas stations, but nothing wacky.
No real effort on some of the old restaurant types (howard johnsons? - and where is a good toll road service plaza for gods sake?)

Well, you can see where I am going. I could rant on some of the other areas (better old buildings, for example).

I, truely understand that this is a volunteer operation and I personally have no way of creating these things (on a Mac, I dont think at any rate). I do not wish to imply that someone has been asleep at the switch. We all have our own personal interests. So, this is my way of standing in the back of the room waiving my arms and making suggestions.

I would be happy to provide images, ideas, consultations, etc to help someone who had a real interest in creating roadside places. (Another thought, how about a tourist cave?) If you are interested, I hope you participate. Perhaps we can even just shoot the breeze about roadside places. (Feel free to download my thesis on such things at www.marcavitch.com.)

Thank you ALL for the work you do. It is amazing for a person so into history, architecture, and the like to see the amount of work done here. I can't even imagine how much time people put into this!

I'm not actually a fan of roadside architecture (unless it's organic googie stuff)
but, I did do a gas station *based* on the style of many wacky googie roadside structures. The basic flower shape is there (it's three sided).

[edit: BTW, I think this posted three times. It was an accident, I'm on a terrible connection and it freaked out as I was posting, I would delete the copies if I could, but alas...
So, Mods, please delete the consecutive posts of mine below.)

    Ah! This was less about an official request and more about a generalized discussion, but perhaps I can cross post? Or should I pick up my pieces and move over there?

    Thanks!
