Game Crashes to Desktop When I Try to Change Building Styles

I have a fairly large city and all the sam buildings are starting to show up in over and over again, so I go to change the building style and I click 'Build All Styles at Once' and then I open the litlle window and when I try to check the first box it freezes and dumps me to my desktop. It does this no matter which building style I go to select first. Does anyone know how to fix this?

P.S.
Why is the sight so slow today?

There is a pinned thread on bug reporting. To get a good answer we need to know about your system, so please look that thread over and give us your system detail.

Also, please copy the first 20 lines of the Exception report into your next post with the other data.

The system may be slow due to the number of users logged in. We have only so much bandwidth.

I had the same problem. It is created due to a known bug with the no-dilipidation and 0-abondonement mod. There is a solution for it; I believe you need to start up SC4 without the dilipidation and abondonement mod installed, then minimize the game and put both modfiles in your plugins folder. exit SC4 and start up again and your game should function again. I'm not 100% sure if this is correct; i think it is either written in a topic in one of the forums or in the read-me file that comes with the mod.

Hope this helps...

I deleted the no dilapidation mod, could this still have caused the problem?

the sad thing is, once you start mixing mods....could be anyone of them or a possible combination of them...you really never know 42.gif

99.9% of the time it just trial and error trying to find the mod that might be causeing this...or combination

maybe list the mods you are using, that might help, but then we still be guessing at possible conflicts

other times crashing to the desktop could be cause by other things...sound card or graphic card conflicts...best thing you can do is try and remove all the mods try the game...see if it loads...then just put the mods and/or building back in small bunches til you come across the problem

I fixed it! I found a file that had apparently been put into C:\Program Files\Maxis\SimCity 4\Plugins
instead of the plugins folder I am using which is in C:\Documents and Settings\Mark's Computer\My Documents\SimCity 4\Plugins
