Connecting two cities with a river in between them

well, I know that ferry routes will travel between city squares but I dont think that counts toward an actually connection.  you could also use subway to connect and that will help with commercial demand caps but it will not help with neighbor deals.  you can connect pipes through a river but this might not be the kind of connection you are looking for.

if you want to connect road or rail or anything above ground you are going to need some kind of small land mass in the center of the river to act as an anchor for a bridge.  that is all I can think of, hope it helps.

Not trying to be a smartass but bridges come to mind as an obvious choice.  Road, avenue, highway, train, it's all the same.  Just drag them across the river and a menu will pop up giving you a choice of bridge styles and heights.  10.gif

Oh, by the way, welcome to Simtropolis.

In my cities I use the method soldyne suggested, I create a small land mass on the edge of the cities to make the connection with roads, avenues, highways, or rail.

@SamFlash: You can't create bridges across city limits.  I believe pistolvaniasfinest610 is asking how to connect two separate cities that have a river in between.

Alright thanks with the help I'll try that land mass suggestion, I might just make a narrow isthmus on the edge in the center of the map

Your right, I was thinking about a city built on two sides of a river, not two totally separate cities.  A small island built in the middle of the river, a portion of which shows in both cities is the only way to connect with road and rail.  My fingers got ahead of my brain.  Time to go to bed. 10.gif

    2 things:

1: I had to do the same thing with the first and second cities I made... I've never done it since. I went on a mission to get the two cities to reconcile the edges and everytime I tried, it would MASSIVELY screw up roads that were no-where near it.. all kinds of stuff. Now I always build the city with the river in the middle of it.

2: I just wanted to say that, in light of the above....

...I wish you a merry Isthmus.
