 EDIT(Fixed my spelling)
In forested and prairie areas in albera Precipatation Is Record dry with only 10mm of rain and snow since nov1.
Christmas and new year in alberta were brown and no more than 2cm of snow was ever on the ground.
Unlike 1998 the dry weather continues even now. So far lasting nov, dec, and, jan.
Only the extremly wet summer prevents winter fires from flaring up

One of the most shocking event ive ever seen in my area was waking up to some Thunder on Chistmas morning.
Later that day the temp soared th 16C in edmonton, and even warmer in the south. Many spending chistmas in summer clothing.
Temps have only been normal or below for a total of about 13 days overall, and all the other days above normal.
The warmest temp in the season was 19C in late november.
Although there is a chance of heavy spring snowstorms but no garantiee.   \

The strange weather might be caused an unusualy strong westerly flow pushing very cold moist air into europe. Leaving north america warm and dry since air heats up as it rides the rocky mountain rollercoaster

Addon: in the north ice roads are melting and choking of isolated towns
Cold lake is Not completly frozen over for the first time ever in january.

Well Northern Ontario has a fleet of waterbombers on call if you guys need them. 44.gif

We shouldnt be in too much trouble this season from what Ive heard. Last summer was really quiet, I think they spend more time stateside than here.

I'm so sorry to hear that. I myself totally understand your & Alberta's situation... in Texas we have been having a drought since 12.23.05 and even though we had tons of rain today, we are still in drought conditions. Fires have burnt over 140,000 acres (sorry, I'm not sure what to translate those units into). Actually a farm burnt down just a few blocks from my home.

Well, vid makes a good point. We in Ontario will help when we can.

The world weather in general is upwhacked this year (at least). We seem to be in a weather change cycle at the present. I don't think it has anything to do with global warming, but is a natural cycle. It is possible the weather office doesn't have proper records of the last one, but there are many stories in the early 1800's of fires in the north woods that would make your blood run cold.

For anyone who hasn't seen the effects of a forest fire up close and personal, I recommend the IMAX movie North of Superior. If you see it in an IMAX theatre, you'll never forget it. It is a first class movie, but part of it is a fire and its after effects.

Also, please remember that some evergreens need a forest fire to release their seeds from the cones. Not all forest fires are bad, but uncontrolled ones are a disaster.

Well, way up north, they just let them burn, they are natural, and they usually dont effect anything. I remember driving down highway 17 in 1999 after a big fire there, it was kinda depressing, but on the return trip there was lots of new life popping up, and it's looking good now.

Yes fires are natural but if the fires start to burn tru the oil sands, fill the tank up quick

Anyway the forcast highs for tomarrow are 10C in edmonton, and 15C in calgary.

I think they might be much higher.

On the radar it appears that thunderstorms are present in alberta, but this it the radar waves bending off warmer air and reflecting off the ground
in other words it's 10-20C aloft, and if that air mixes to the ground... it'l be very mild tomorrow.

Joe: There are no fires yet. They are just predicted. But if you lived in that forest, you would very rightly worry.

Luckly I live South of edmonton in the small city of wetaskiwin.

I Hate drought becuse it kills Thunderstorms, which I enjoy watching and photographing. Here's one of them.
