Well, here it is, albeit later than I promised, the season finale of Massopax. Maybe the new CJ system will be up when I'm able to play SC4 again.

Wow, a lot of comments, thanks....

Equilibria: I've seen the one-way mod on the stex but have not d/l-ed it because of worries about losing my orientation. Is there a way to turn it off without deleting the mod, for when I'm building?

Syth37: I was just in Richmond a week ago! If and when I post more, I'd like to post US 84 west of Alexandria as I patterned it somewhat after US 250/Broad St and US 60/Midlothian Tpk and the (seemingly) endless commercial areas and strip malls along both thoroughfares. If you go back a few pages, you can see some of US 84.

Jacqulina: Thanks, maybe not quite as awesome as the great terraforming I've seen you do, though. 44.gif

Slacker: Thanks for being the 2000th visitor 39.gif and glad you like the roads and signs!

Capitol1: Thanks, glad you like the ramps.

Josef: Thanks! Maybe something that would make the region more realistic is some urban brick streets. I need to check out your thread on that, been a while since I've looked.

    OwenLuby: Thank you!

Well, here we go down MP-29 South/West into the hamlet of Stafford. MP-29 narrows to two lanes.

Speed Limit Sign as we're entering a primarily residential area.

Some nice houses here as some wealthier people are moving down here instead of Middleton even though it's a longer commute up I-73 to Alexandria.

    alexandria21bul8.jpg

Since we're near Stafford Elementary School with kids crossing the road, we have this school speed sign which flashes when school is in session.

And now we make it to the JCT with US 19. The MP-29 designation ends at US 19, the street continues ahead as SR 633, which is a very minor road into rural farmland.  Oddly enough I had a big problem with Chuck-E-Cheese trying to overtake all commercial areas.... Luckily I was able to supress Chuck-E-Cheese's evil plans.  Notice the Stafford Farmer's Market where some of the most delicious local produce is sold.

    alexandria21csi3.jpg

Here's the signal for the intersection with US 19. We're turning left here to go South on US 19. Notice the old-style US 19 shield on the right side and the older style signals.

Here we go South on US 19.

And here's the last intersection as we enter the great abyss known as Fulton County.

Thanks for all the comments and suggestions. They have really made this region better than it would have looked without them. I hope to get something up at somepoint. On the previous page I have a map, as well as the first page, what would you like to see once I get this going again?

    * I-34 / US 84 From West (Hayfield/Northton) to East (Columbia)

    * MP-4 / MP-55 From Southeast (Glendale) to Northwest (Rockville)

    * I-473 all the way around (and maybe some of MP-352 if it gets completed).

    Again, Thanks!

    Dan

Maps and signage.  I'm in heaven.

    ...off note...

    ...season finale...quote>

Awwwk!  You're not going anywhere for a while, are you?  I'm from the era where "season finale" meant reruns for the next 13 weeks, then the dread "summer programming" before the new season started.  Like the old Dire Straits' tune went-

    ...I...want...my...Mass...o...pax...

This has been a great CJ up until now, and I hope that it hits the ground running upon its return. I like this update, and it's great to see some new signage even beyond the intersections we've all largely stuck to up until now. As for the one-way arrows...

There's no way to turn the mod off in-game, but I really didn't find it as hard as I'd anticipated. The scariest prospect for me, the NAM overpasses (for which you really need the arrows), are unaffected in my game. For the rest, it isn't hard to remember what goes what way, and you can always check yourself by running a one way on top of what you have for one space. If the whole hunk of road changes direction, it goes in the opposite direction.

Again, best of luck in the offseason.

Great journal here! Your attention to detail and obvious love of transportation, signs and design really shows. And provides a really interesting read.

    Great work! Unique.

Wow, didn't expect this to come back from the dead. Thanks for the compliments....

However, I have bad news. Since I've moved out of my mom's house, her computer became infected with SpyWare and other crap, so everything had to be deleted off her computer and Windows reinstalled.... consequently, Massopax River Valley is no more.

Once I can get my hands on a new computer, I plan to start a new CJ on Winchester, a town west of Alexandria along I-34 and US 84, still in the state of Massopax. I envision a town similar to Charlottesville or Roanoke, VA with a main city and long roads of strip malls and sprawl (ala US 29 north of Charlottesville) all surrounded by farms and mountains.

At any rate, I'd like to thank everyone who has visited and given me comments, suggestions, or criticisms, as you enhanced the region a lot and made my experience with SC4 more enjoyable.

So finally I know the future after this CJ. I agree with David in that your next CJ is certainly going to be better, now that you know the full power of the STEX.

Ever since moving down to NC the creation of suburban sprawl has both intrested and horrified me simultaneously. I seem to have gone in the past couple of months from creating more compact design to trying to emulate the rhythms of suburban sprawl in Simcity.

Hope to see your next journal sometime in the future!

I had no idea that when I sent my nomination for Massopax in as an ad-hoc award, it would actually become a reality.

Of course, that last sentence could be interpreted a little selfishly - as if it had double meanings -by some, but I'm only stating the facts.

I'm imagining you're still without a system capable of playing SC4 and thus providing us at ST with more excellent roadgeekery.  A couple new roadgeek journals (Maitland [link] by Houston_Fan springs into mind) have popped up recently - maybe roadgeek journals could replace animated CJs as the next big thing.

    Take care

Thanks Dalton, Aaron and Jacqulina, it means a lot to me, I myself was surprised and humbled this morning. But more importantly, thanks for the suggestions, even the nitpicky ones you'd send Aaron, because it really helped me to make my cities better looking and more realistic, and enhanced my enjoyment of Sim City.

Currently, I still am using my 1999 Gateway laptop... it works fine for what I need to do, but I think I'm going to buy a new computer in the near future so I can have a CD burner, etc., and most importantly play Sim City and start the Winchester, MP, region.

    Thanks again,

    Dan

Hey where was the roadgeek trixie when I had an active CJ... 4.gif Joking aside, congrats; you certainly deserve it. I missed the finale here, but excellent shield and light assemblies as always. Perhaps this will motivate me to start up a new CJ for the '07 season. I'm hoping to use my new home of southeastern Michigan as inspiration for a different style, but there's this whole "grad school" that's getting in the way....
