FSB/RAM issues

I am happy that I now have 1GB of RAM on my system, but I can only get my FSB, and thus my RAM, to run a 166MHz when my motherboard, memory, and processor support 333MHz. The highest selectable frequency is the BIOS/CMOS is 200MHz, and my computer wouldn't boot up last time I tried that. I have the latest chipset drivers isntalled for my NForce2 Chipset. My O/S is 2000 Professional with SP4. Any ideas?

Check with your machine maker. If it is HP, they may have newer drivers for the Geforce 2 Mobo set. They had one for me.

Also, did you check the mobo manual for jumper options. FSB rate is sometimes jumped in. If you don't have the manual for your mobo, look at the maker's site.

You may need a new chip for your FSB controller. If this is the case, unless you are very good with hardware, I think you are out of luck.

It will never run at 200MHz but I can't tell you exactly why.  I heard a very detailed explanation of why about a year ago but have since forgotten the details.  I'm pretty sure that if you google your queestion you will find an explanation.  I might try it myself later on tonight, if I have time.

The good news is that the additional ram will allow you to play SC4 better regardless of the speed.10.gif

I messed around aith a few jumpers and looked around on forums, and I am pretty sure there is nothing I can do. I found the FSB jumper and changed it, but that only made it slower. XFX manufactured the NF24-ALH board, and they don't acknowledge that they ever made motherboards on their website. I can keep messing with BIOS/CMOS and such when I get back home next, where my manual is.
