Props not showing on all zooms

Well hello there,

Some may know me from my City Journal and others may not know me at all.

Well I have a huge issue. This issue has gotten out of control as of 1/10/06 and now it's not working. My issue concerns props, props all over the game. From steets to grown homes and buisnesses, from ploped trees to ploped ponds. They are simply not showing in all views and zooms. Some places show all props yet out places don't. It is as a twister has just struck the area with force, because there isn't any damage left behind. I'm not really happy about this issue too because I tried every thing from removing the latest stuff I downloaded to reploping everything back. But once I exit the city and re-enter it I get no props. Please help,

This has not happen before so I do not know what this is. I have all my settings on high to, I also did try to reset them and set them back and nothing changed.

Computer specs : Microsoft Windows XP AMD Athlon™ XP 1800+ 1.53 GHz, 768 MB of Ram anything else?

Note: This is only happening to one city all the rest are not doing what I have just showed you.

Please help, thanks in advance.
I feel like just starting over my region just because of this issue. I want to pull my hair!14.gif

Hello,

Did you remember to tell us about your video or display card specifications? The problem might have originated from there.

Constantina - Where can I find this to show you guys? Because I can't find this.
jeronij - Yes, those are ploped trees as in 1x1 lots. No, I do not have cyclepuppy's mod.

Well, guys it seems like things have gotten worst, nothing seems fixed after test after test after test. I also tryied to replop them over which worked well, but then I exited the city and reentered and everything went back to what I did. blank!..14.gif

Could be your paging file. Check this to see that the minimum is set to at least three times your real memory. I have 768MB but I set my page file to 4096MB because I have lots of disk. 4096MB (4GB) is the maximum for XP.

You have 768MB, but do you have an integrated graphics controller taking a slice of this?

To find out, run System Information from your Accessories->System Tools menu.

Looking for more info, see you in this thread.

Hey mex. Sorry to hear about that. I have experienced something similar: In some cases I have disappearing props at some zoom levels too. But when I zoom in very close, they always load... I always thought that was because I have too little RAM for loading all these props...

I have no idea yet, but if it's nothing about game conflicts, then it's possibly a computer issue. In addition to the things already mentioned above:

    (1) How much RAM do you have?

    (2) What about your video card? Is it working well right now? Did you update the driver (maybe it is corrupted...)?

    (3) Have you considered to reinstall the game? (but make sure to have backup files of the city and the plugins folder).

That's all I can think of at the moment...

    - Phil

The problem is that you need to go into your graphics options and set city detail to High. No props are showing on any of the other lots. What you plopped only contains props. They are not showing because the city detail is at Low.

Thank you for showing me a shot of the city area. That helped me realize the problem. This normally happens after updating SC4.

PhilsCafe - I have 768 MB of RAM, how can I find out if my video card is working correctly also how would I know if I needed an update on it. In addition I believe it isn't a computer problem because none of my other games are having any issues and I believe this is only happening to one city. It has gotten worst because now it doing it to the entire city, it used to be the far east of my city and now as reached far west. 15.gif It looks very ugly and I can't know why this would happen, and no I didn't have any back-up files of my cities. I only did that whenever I was going to do anything changeable (stupid) to my region and this issue just appeared out of no where. 14.gif

No, I haven't reinstalled the game yet, I don't think that could magically solve the problem, or could it.? 42.gif..Hmm.. I'll see what I can do.
( All I know for a fact is I think my City Journal could be in the works of a finish ) 46.gif

Tracker - No, I know that for a fact. Because I already said that above and half the city was detailed and half the city was wiped props out. So No.. Sorry. Thanks for trying to help out. 48.gif

    Hey Mex.

768 MB sounds ok to me, but I can't tell for sure... at least I have much less. It depends on the amount of plugins you have installed. Maybe your computer can't handle all these at once. And that the bug only appeared in one city so far could mean that you have more props on that specific city tile than elsewhere... if that's the case, then you have to upgrade your RAM... but as I said, I can't tell for sure.

About the reinstallation of the game or new graphics drivers: Software can be damaged (corrupted files) e.g. after a break down. And if it really is damaged, then this could help. I recommend to install a new graphics driver first, because that's the easiest measure. Just visit the website of your video card manufacturer and download the latest driver to your model. If that doesn't work, then I would consider to reinstall the game (but you have to do a backup. It's still possible that the city files aren't harmed at all...)

But that's just what I would do in that situation.

    Take care buddy.

    Hi,
All that seems cool. Philscafe has some good ideas.

Do you know how to use the command prompt to find out what size all your plugins are? By the use of the DIR command in command prompt, you can find the total size of all your plugins.

    In the command window type
    DIR /?
    to get the command format.

You have to navigate to the plugins folder to simplify issuing the command. The last line of the display will give you the information you need.

The point is that is your plugins add up to too much, you can run out of space to support your city. Plugins all load when the game starts and stay memory resident.

I used to have the problem when I had a ATI video card.  For idiotic reasons, the game would not run in hardware acceleration, and go back to software, with all the settings on low. That probably isn't the problem here.

N_O_Body, I certainly can see why SC4 runs so slowly on mine.  I think I have about 3,000 files in my Plugins folder.  I've got 512MB ram, probably the lowest around here that anybody will run the game with.

I can't figure out what could fix the problem, other than backing up your cities, plugins, and reinstalling the game. Stranger ideas have worked.
