Game freezes in Region View and CTD while loading a city [Solved]

Hi

My sc4 has started freezing since yesterday. The day before yesterday I played without problems, and yesterday when I started the game I received a message about some problem (unfortunately I don't remember the message, I didn't give it importance in the moment). I started the game as usual, the region loaded but the image was freezing when move through region view. I started a city (in which I had played the day before) and when city was almost loaded it CTD.

I had not changed any plugin since the day before and it was the same city I've played 24h before. I have tried with different combinations of plugins and in new cities in other regions but the same CTD happens. I have also copied both the region and all the plugins to another old computer where I have SC4 installed and everything works correctly (very slow but there is no CTD with all plugins and same cities), so I think maybe it is a graphic problem? But the thing is that I have not changed anything since the last time I played. The only way the game not CTD is in a city with vanilla game and without any plugins. But I'm almost sure it's not a plugin problem, because it works fine on another computer.

 

I'm playing on a Laptop with windows 11,  AMD RYZEN 5000 series

It sounds actually odd and quite anoying at the same time... if we rule out any plugin interaction as the cause of the issue, do you know if there was any change affecting the computer itself? If so, can you try to revert it and test if the issue is gone? 

You can also try to remove the last plugins that you just added to your collection. Just to see if this solves the situation. 

From the issue discription it sounds like an issue created by a new plugin that has been added... but what you mentioned about the other computer, makes things a bit more complicated to be honest with you...

As I said above, I would check:

1: Any recent changes affecting the computer.

2: The latest plugins added trying to remove a few of them to see if this solves the issue.

Problem solved!

After a binary research method with my plugins I found out the problem. In a completely new city with only my terrain mod (Pyrenean Terrain Mod) in my plugins folder it caused CTD. I suppose HD textures caused CTD. So I've changed from Software to Hardware Mode and it work. Anyway that's strange because I've been playing for 6 months in Software Mode with HD props, and I'm using the same terrain mode for more than 10 years.

I remember some years ago it was necessary to play with Hardware mode when playing with HD props or textures. And I used to play Hardware mode on my old computer (that's why there is no CTD with my old computer). Nevertheless, I read somewhere that nowadays with the new DLL available (don't remember which DLL) it was not necessary to play hardware mode with HD so I've been playing for 8 months with HD props in software mode. Somehow yesterday Software mode caused CTD.

Anyway problem solved.
