How do you increase the resolution in SC4?

I would like to change the resolution in my simcity4 game. I downloaded it from Gog galaxy.

I followed the directions in the following video:

 

I added the following words (like the above video said): -CustomResolution:enabled -r1680x1050x32

I clicked “apply” and an access denied message appeared. The message read: “Access denied: you will need to provide administrator permission to change these settings. Click continue to complete this operation”

I click “continue”. Nothing happens to the game. What can I do?

1.) It's GOG galaxy... not GOG games; will that matter?

2.) and can this mess up the game (e.g., erase anything I'm currently playing)?

Just copy the -CPUCount:1 -w -intro:off -CustomResolution:enabled -r1280x1024x32 part. It shouldn't mess anything up. Unless you like watching that intro vid. I think you can change those numbers too.

I tried it and it's not working. Any other ideas?

This message is telling you that you do not have the appropriate rights to alter a shortcut in the way you are trying. So, when you click continue, none of the changes you made persist.

Who 'owns' the computer you are using?, if your Windows logon doesn't have Admin access, either someone else or a special account you'd have setup will have such. You need to use such an 'Admin' account to log into Windows and alter this setting.
