Edit Lot to allow trees

I have a park system series of lots that I downloaded from Simtropolis.  However, the lots do not allow you to place trees on them even though they show up as just grass in most places.  How can I edit the lot to allow me to put trees on them while in game.  Is it something I can do in the lot editor, something that I need to edit with the Ilive Reader, or something else?

Dear Kevin Ar18

When your editing your lot go to props and type in palm at the bar given then it should give you palm trees and other trees in the selection if it didn't find the right prop hit enter untill it does.

-Good luck!

Thanks for the info.  However, what I would like to do is edit the properties of the lot in such a way that I can plop trees on the lot while in-game.  Sorry for the confusion.  I have done that with the Maxis grass lots from time to time; however, I cannot do that with the lots that I downloaded.

I think he means (and if he doesn't, than it will be my question) if it is possible to edit lots so that you can put Mayor-Mode or God-Mode Trees on them IN Simcity 4!

    Not in the lot editor.

    Is it possible or not?

    Hello to all,

Maybe  you are talking about one of my sets: the diagonal Park fences, maybe not. Anyway, they have the same problem, and I can tell you the solution.
What is causing this is the lot

Is AA01 PK 1X1_8f389b5a.SC4Lot your lot; those are the park pieces I'm using.

Thank you for the tip.  I was thinking that it was that problem when I saw the building size in the Lot Editor -- it covered the entire lot.  As a result, I reduced the size of the building.  However, I was still unable to plant trees on the lot in-game.  Looking at the information in Ilive Reader, the Occupant Size is exactly what you specified.

I'll re-test it in-game again and see.  If it still doesn't work, I'll take a closer look at the settings.

Thank you again for the detailed answer.

    Update:
Indeed it is your diagonal fences that I am using.  I re-tested in game, however it still doesn't work; the settings in Ilive Reader are correct as well.

You mentioned that you had an updated version?  I would ask where to get it, however, I have made significant changes to your lots such as the following:
    1) Removed the large trees (not the ones following the edge of the park).
    2) Edited the park effect values to fit the game a little more.

You are right, I forgot something 43.gif. I made this modification some time ago, so I forgot all the process.

The other thing involved are the fences props. Specially for the diagonals. The props act as building in terms of allowing or not trees on it.
So you will have to locate the file containing the fences props. The name is jeroni_fence.dat. There are two prop exemplar in this file. Do the same you did for the building for each exemplar. Occupant Size property = 1,0,1.
In the Lot Editor you should have something like this (you will have to place the building and the props again, the lot wont update alone).

    Occusizesparks01010102.jpg

In the game, you can plant trees on them with no problem

    Lots alone

    Occusizesparks01010103.jpg

    Lots plus some CD trees

    Occusizesparks01010104.jpg

    Occusizesparks01010105.jpg

I hope this helps you. I have an updated version in my computer. I made it exactly for the same reason you opened this thread 2.gif, but it needs testing and time which I dont have 2.gif. Feel free to modify the lots to fit your needs.

Thank you so much for that bit of info.
Could I make some changes to the lot to fix the stuff and send 'em to you for the STEX?

0-rotate) Yeah, I found out about that rotation issue.  I didn't realize that it wouldn't allow it at first.
0-fence) I see what you mean about the fences.  Theoretically, it should work.  After all, when you use the lot editor to place multiple items on a lot, they show up.  Perhaps he used a slightly different technique than just putting items on their in a lot editor.  Anyways, maybe I could give it a try.  However, I would need to design a new fence; any ideas on a good design to choose?

    1) Someone via private message told me that they only work with network lots....  I don't know if you can network enable parks. 1.gif

    3) If I find some Maxis ones that are greener, I'll try to use those.  Alas, if there isn't any, they would have to be made and included.  If this is necessary, should I include them in the same dat file or as a seperate file?  I would want to make them all part of the same download, however.

Thanks for the feedback.  I have tended to leave things unfinished (in various areas), so I want to try and finish this one little project, God willing.
