Well lemme assess here. You are saying that when you download an item from STEX some objects on the BAT are what look to be brown packages...

If this is the case then view the readme file to the plugin or go Stex and find the downloaded item again and then follow the instructions on what textures/props you need to download in order for it to work. You can find these on STEX as well.

Hope that helps.

Hmm, now I get your problem. When I was new to Simtropolis and the STEX, I download the lots / props and whatsoever without reading the readme and the dependencies information.

The reason why you got those annoying bing brown boxes is because that particular lot lacks some should-be-there dependencies. The only thing you can do is to trace back where you downloaded the file, check the dependencies and download them.

Remember to download the base pack sets which you can find my searchign through the STEX. 44.gif

    Good luck!

A million sorrys for being so confusing.Okay, STEX refers to the SimTropolis EXchange.

Some lots you've downloaded requires prop packs and / or base sets made by other people. These are called dependencies. You lots needs them to look perfectly fine. For example, the UK row houses requries the GasCooker dependencies. Some lots come with dependencies already loaded in the ZIP file.

Yes, you'll need to find where you downloaded the file from, and check what the author said in the download window. They will surely mention any dependencies needed by their lots. Just download them and place them in your plugin folder.

    Hope this helps5.gif

Here I'll try to give you an example.

Say, You want to download Sim Goober's Clock Tower Train Staion

so you go to the link and download the BAT. But if you notice in all the information posted about the station there is a section called dependancies. There are then links that proceed to different packs. download any dependancies you see you need for the file. and the brown package should go away. Please note that after many file downloads that you dont redownload the same prop packs for each building. once you download a dependancy to the building then you dont need to download it again.

And of course these dependancies go in the plugins folder with the actual file.

    Does this help?

The STEX is the Simtropolis exchange - the place where you downloaded the files to begin with.  Dependencies are files that some downloads have to have in order to display properly.  You will have to download the dependencies that you didn't download.  Once you do that, be sure to read the README files that came with the downloads.

EDIT: You beat me too it CitySeeker!6.gif

Also, there are some critical files that you will need from the Simcity4 official site in order for downloaded buildings to appear properly.

You will need to register and be logged in to www.simcity4.com in order to see these downloads:

    1. The Game update EP1 available on the main page
    2. Both Buildings as Props files available on the Lot Editor Page
    3. The Simcity 4 Update available on the BAT page
    4. The various prop packs from the Landmarks page are good to have too, but not usually critical

    Welcome to Simtropolis!!!
