Different game behavior on different computers

    Hi,

It's my first post on Simtropolis forum, although I'm reading it for quite a while. So I'd like to say Hi to everybody.

I've got a problem - I'm playing the same region on two different computers sometimes (copying Regions folder from one to another). I've the same version of sim city (rush hour) on both, also all the plugins are the same. I've got NAM installed with better pathfinding. And my problem is about pathfinding - on computer I play most of the time I've got much worse commute times then on the second one (like 90 minutes to 45). It's slower computer - 1,5 GHz compared to 3 GHz. Does it occur because of computer's speed or there may be another reason? Also when I'm playing on slower machine people seem to come quicker to my cities and bigger industry buildings are built. On faster one I've only noticed small ones being built.
    What may cause this difference?

    Thanks for helping,

    Andrzej

This is nothing to do with the speed of your computer, although you will need to choose the same options when you install NAM on both computers. More likely that the statistics of your cities would fluctuate through the years.

To ensure the smooth transition of regions between both computers, it is best to transfer the whole folder of the desired region with its contents. 1.gif

@constantina: He copies his entire regions folder so I don't think that was much help.

@asilver: I don't really think you have a problem except you want to make sure you have the same installation of the NAM on both machines. Now, with the difference in speed of the machines, there is, perhaps, a trimming of the algorithm because the program uses 100% cpu most of the time. The simulation is very dense, so it will vary depending on resources.

The other major limiting resource is memory. On XP, a minimum of 512MB is needed. Also, there is a lot of paging at this RAM size, so your page file (Virtual memory) should be on the order of three times the size of your RAM (minimum) and double that for maximum.

None of this may help because of the random nature of the game. I don't know whether we have a good handle on the randomizer the programmers used, but I have a feeling is is the regular C++ randomizer. If that is the case, it is system date/time dependent. Under these circumstances, don't expect similar results.
